Dubstep comes from neurofunk and grime, they both have this nasty bass you hear here, dubstep is mixed with that, and 2-beat, which makes it slow, and dance'able, however, amon's music isn't EDM, so it can't therefore be dubstep, even if it were post-something.
It's interesting how Amon Tobin approaches dubstep. He plays with the forms but never really engages into the actual style, probably as it is so popular already and he always experiments with new sounds. He did the same with dnb. He incorporates elements of a particular genre but makes them his own, with his signature soundscapes, instead of simply making a popular song. And he's always looking ahead and trying new stuff, he's so inspiring!
@Tuatara8081 electronica(even that word is loathed and loved equally) fans argue over etymology more than any people on earth. you'd think the symbolic mouth noise(word) that is applied to a sound wouldn't matter but, it seems to matter to many. it's like green eggs and ham. i have a friend who refuses to listen to anything labeled "dubstep." However, he'll like a song if told it's some new made up genre when infact it's just dubstep. but who cares? would a rose by any other name smell as sweet?
nice sound quality. it sounds like it's emmenating from inside my head. such modern crisp sounds. it's like a schizophrenic online-tinged third world psychedelic post-modern sonic assault. i saw him live for that whole isis box show...which was life changing btw. anyway, the one thing that really stuck out from that night was watching one of the 70 year old or so ushers working the venue. he watched the stage show(the cubes) and the immense sounds with his jaw agape. i think it blew his mind.

Amon Tobin dropped his first EP in the early 90's, long before "dubstep".
Genres are for losers anyways.

@rainbowscythe True. All part of the same enveloping superstructure. It's dialectic.

@deathcrafter it's not on any album. It's part of the Monthly Joints. Single tracks being released only on Amon Tobin's official website.
