@thejihadresistance But why are you posting here? This is a food channel. Food is definitely not on America's list of enemies. You're going to have to go elsewhere to look for a fight.
@andrewfyip An enemy left me a nasty message then blocked me, I found him commenting here and stood up to him. You read it and asked me a question. The fight was started by HIM. Bon Appetite!
So where do you find this "ground dry chipotle"...never seen this spice before. It wasn't at the Krogers. I have ground cayenne (wrong chili pepper), chili powder (a blend of many spices), and chipotle powder (again a blend of many spices). Amazon has a huge bottle for $20 dollars...was hoping to pay $4 dollars at a brick and mortar grocery chain, where did you buy your ground chipotle spice from?
Actually this isn't a bad idea I mean if you know someone who enjoys cooking give them this along with a gift basket of other spices and oils or whatnot :D
HI Chef John. I was scanning your Food Wishes website and was shocked and horrified that you have no recipe for Bouillabaisse. What gives? I know this is a random post, but I am really thinking about cheating with another recipe site. You are pushing me to do this. I will. I swear.
@music77ify The primary difference between cioppino and bouillabaisse is that cioppino has a true tomato base, while bouillabaisse has a "white" base with saffron and a few tomatoes thrown in for good measure....DOUCHE.
Please Chef John, would you make a video showing the most needed and useful pots, pans and utensils to have in a kitchen, for people who are just starting out with cooking? I can't crowd my lillte kitchen with much stuff, but i would like to have good things that I will always need... Your tips are always welcome! Many thanks!
@traveler1938 One product I would recommend is a non-stick 4 or 4 1/2qt everyday pan. It's a casserole pan (no long handle) so it doesn't take up much space. It's shallow enough to use as roasting pan or frying pan and deep enough to use as pot to cook pasta. I've seen brands like Circulon and Cuisinart make this kind of pans.
@traveler1938 I'm no chef John but I could give you my two cents. A good chef knife, cutting board, cast iron and stainless steel pans, enameled cast iron dutch oven and a blender should get you going in the right direction. Other than that, the type of cuisine you cook and trial and error will determine more than anything else how you will stock your kitchen.
Chef John, I can't thank you enough for properly pronouncing the word Chipotle, A certain horrible southern matriarch insists on mispronouncing it Chip-ol-tee /shudder.
@Skurvy2k It's Chip-ote-lay But whatever...why you you would listen to this guy ....it's fooood wishes with Chef John. Gimme a break, this guy is simply annoying.
@Skurvy2k DUDE!!! my dads side of the family is all plain and non-experimental type they all say it like that...N my moms side is from all over the world and ive seen and ate alota good stuff ya know... so it bugs the shit outa me when i hear chipoltee!!
chef john, how do you make peppermint bark? is it really only white chocolate, peppermint extract, and crushed candy canes? do you have a different recipe? i want to make this for my family (=
This does have more uses than just cooking, *wink wink*. Some people don't like that kind of hot sensation, but I enjoy it. Not something I'd do all the time but you should try it at least once.
I'm going to compromise & do it for a week day & just leave the spices in it & tell them to filter it if they want. ... I'm kidding. I die inside that I have to say that because I love just letting it hang, but there are so many who take things so seriously I have to spell it out ... & I hate them for it. Not kidding! lol
what is the time range within the oil should be used ?? because i know olive oil turns bad quicker than canola and such but.. would it be best to make like severals 2oz bottles to give to many poeple or it will stay fresh for a long time ?? and do you suggest canola over sunflower oil?? what would be your other 2 best spices or combination for spiced oils :) haha i want to give it for the holidays so help would be appreciated :D

for the people that asked where to get the ingredients + the bottle. I bought them at target
3.29 for oil (I used vegetable oil, as it says on the recipe but chef john uses canola oil)
2.99 for bottle
Chilli powder: 4.49 for 2oz I believe.
so far it tastes great and its only been 2 days since I made it.
