  • thank you. i used home grown cayenne and it came out perfect.

nice deep color and the taste....i use it on everything.

about to start a batch of habaneno oil tonight.

    ALL HAIL CHEF JOHN!!!

  • @kimnjer1 You left me a message on my channel, you called me a bitch, you said "Ron Paul 2012, Bitch!" You are a PAULBOT and completely crazy and I reject not only your candidate but your nasty authoritarian attitude. Ron Paul is not only a liberal but a Fascist, JUST LIKE YOU. NO TO RON PAUL

  • @thejihadresistance sorry, but how can you be a liberal and a fascist? Polar opposites...

  • @andrewfyip Fully left is 100% government control, fully right is anarchy (no government at all) , TEA party constitutionalists ( gov does military only) are almost right both Dems and Repubs are left of center now, (since Dems are fully Socialists now with about 35% pure Marxists), then go left for Hitler's National Socialism,Left again for N. Korean Socialism, left again for Soviet Communism, Left again for Mussolini's Fascism. Your teacher was a Marxist and a liar. One in the SAME

  • @thejihadresistance But why are you posting here? This is a food channel. Food is definitely not on America's list of enemies. You're going to have to go elsewhere to look for a fight.

  • @andrewfyip An enemy left me a nasty message then blocked me, I found him commenting here and stood up to him. You read it and asked me a question. The fight was started by HIM. Bon Appetite!

  • So where do you find this "ground dry chipotle"...never seen this spice before. It wasn't at the Krogers. I have ground cayenne (wrong chili pepper), chili powder (a blend of many spices), and chipotle powder (again a blend of many spices). Amazon has a huge bottle for $20 dollars...was hoping to pay $4 dollars at a brick and mortar grocery chain, where did you buy your ground chipotle spice from?

  • this is awesome, I'm a person who loves to put chili on almost anything. seems better than frying dried peppers :)

  • Porn for Foodies.

    Thank you, Chef John.

  • "You're not cheap...you're CREATIVE." Chef John, you are a real hoot! p.s. Thank you for teaching me to make many wonderful dishes.

  • I think it would be super cool if you can put something in it like dried peppers or leaves or something like that. It would look even better.

  • for the people that asked where to get the ingredients + the bottle. I bought them at target

3.29 for oil (I used vegetable oil, as it says on the recipe but chef john uses canola oil)

    2.99 for bottle

    Chilli powder: 4.49 for 2oz I believe.

so far it tastes great and its only been 2 days since I made it.

  • Actually this isn't a bad idea I mean if you know someone who enjoys cooking give them this along with a gift basket of other spices and oils or whatnot :D

  • are you gonna show us how to use this now? cause that would be awesome :) i dont wanna give it away. i wanna keep it for myself!

  • @skittles0567 you could always double the recipe. and then keep it all.

  • What about you being too famous and everybody opening 'Chipotle Oil' presents under their Xstams tree : /

  • Love this! What a great idea. thanks

  • "you're not cheap, you're creative" ahahaha I enjoy how Americans give things name

  • This is a great way to say....I'm not cheap, but your not that important either.

    Cheif John is a genius!

  • Show us how to make some Demi Glace.

  • funny Chef John didn't make Cayenne pepper oil...xD

  • no. actually I'm cheap.

  • HI Chef John. I was scanning your Food Wishes website and was shocked and horrified that you have no recipe for Bouillabaisse. What gives? I know this is a random post, but I am really thinking about cheating with another recipe site. You are pushing me to do this. I will. I swear.

  • @tweekyseagull doesnt a bouillabaisse take like a few days to make?

  • @pronoobboy Yea 2 to be exact

  • @tweekyseagull You won't. You can't. We won't let you. >:)

  • he has a cioppino recipe...thats the same thing....moron.

  • @music77ify The primary difference between cioppino and bouillabaisse is that cioppino has a true tomato base, while bouillabaisse has a "white" base with saffron and a few tomatoes thrown in for good measure....DOUCHE.

  • oh....well fuck you then.

  • rape rape!

  • I like your gift ideas a lot Chef John hehehe

  • canola oil is toxic!

  • @cooldaddyy rape seeds are toxic.

  • @DejectedDonkey sorry, im not familiar with rape seeds. do tell?

  • With weed? Whoa dude, thanks so much for that tip! Awesome!

  • you can do this with weed

  • thanks for sharing!!!

  • Chipotle mayo!!

  • mmmmmm smoked paprika oil AND smoked paprika on roasted baby potatoes!

  • "You're not cheap, you're creative."

This is right up my alley. =)

  • Damn, this is a fantastic idea. Totally stealing it. Thanks, Chef!

  • @mikethered123 Hardly stealing if its a recipe :P

  • Would this work with garlic powder, like someone else said apparently it could cause bacteria that cause botulism to grow if you use raw garlic.

  • Smoked paprika? Maybe one could make it with say

    CAYENNE?

  • Mister Chef John i will get you a cayenne oil :] Me thinks u will be happy liquid cayenne.

  • I love your homemade gifts!

  • Great gift idea!

  • Awesome!

  • how could anyone dislike this?

  • If I'm using fresh rosemary and garlic should I boil it in the oven to sterilize ?

  • I would love to know how to make Avocado Oil!!

  • chef john, won't the oil become rancid if you leave it out?

  • @angotchi how can oil become rancid?

  • @foodwishes

Please Chef John, would you make a video showing the most needed and useful pots, pans and utensils to have in a kitchen, for people who are just starting out with cooking? I can't crowd my lillte kitchen with much stuff, but i would like to have good things that I will always need... Your tips are always welcome! Many thanks!

  • @traveler1938 Be prepared for a sarcastic comment about how much life your life sucks for you because you are not Chef John :D

  • @traveler1938 One product I would recommend is a non-stick 4 or 4 1/2qt everyday pan. It's a casserole pan (no long handle) so it doesn't take up much space. It's shallow enough to use as roasting pan or frying pan and deep enough to use as pot to cook pasta. I've seen brands like Circulon and Cuisinart make this kind of pans.

  • @traveler1938 I'm no chef John but I could give you my two cents. A good chef knife, cutting board, cast iron and stainless steel pans, enameled cast iron dutch oven and a blender should get you going in the right direction. Other than that, the type of cuisine you cook and trial and error will determine more than anything else how you will stock your kitchen.

  • That is not a beautiful color. It just looks like used oil after frying chicken.

  • @foodwishes

Can you show us how to make chipotle starting with fresh jalapenos??

  • well u like he said you dont have to use chipotle...my mom loves jamacian jerk im totaly doing this with jerk spices!!

  • Why would I want to give my loved one's a steady source of bloody diarrhea? I love you Chef lil' John! WAAT!

  • how bout tandoori? would that work?

  • cayenne oil?

  • This is acsually a good idea.. I once bought my mom a bottle of some chili oil.. it was about 25 dollers.. Why didn't i think of this?

  • Chef John, I can't thank you enough for properly pronouncing the word Chipotle, A certain horrible southern matriarch insists on mispronouncing it Chip-ol-tee /shudder.

  • @Skurvy2k It's Chip-ote-lay But whatever...why you you would listen to this guy ....it's fooood wishes with Chef John. Gimme a break, this guy is simply annoying.

  • @Skurvy2k DUDE!!! my dads side of the family is all plain and non-experimental type they all say it like that...N my moms side is from all over the world and ive seen and ate alota good stuff ya know... so it bugs the shit outa me when i hear chipoltee!!

  • The first alternative I thought of was a garlic oil, but then I remembered that raw garlic + oil = breeding ground for botulism (.: do NOT do!).

Anyone know if it's the same case for garlic powder, though?

But to be safe, I think I'll stick with cayenne oil ;)

  • "You're not Cheap.. You're Creative..!!" Yes indeed.. Can't agree more.. hahaha

  • who doesnt like chipotle? i understand if youre allergic but if you just straight up dont like it, youre the devil.

  • starting this one tomorrow!

    thx chef john.

  • May you do a lobster pot our recipe?

  • chef john, how do you make peppermint bark? is it really only white chocolate, peppermint extract, and crushed candy canes? do you have a different recipe? i want to make this for my family (=

  • I liked that, even though I'm never making it.

  • this is a perfect idea for a gift. thank god i subscribed lol

  • I really wish you were a chef at my school (Johnson & Wales University, Denver, CO)...even though I'm majoring in baking & pastry.

  • YOU SO ROCK!!!! Thanks!

  • Hmm... Could u do this with cayenne? O_O

  • Keep your chipotle close!

    Keep your Chipot-Away closer!

  • Great, now I need chipotlaway.

  • i love the bottle . i wish i can get one in here :(

  • good shit bro

  • I like the sneak peek of your back yard in the background, chef John. :p

  • This does have more uses than just cooking, *wink wink*. Some people don't like that kind of hot sensation, but I enjoy it. Not something I'd do all the time but you should try it at least once.

  • @stooge81 well, considering he basically just said that they are synonyms, yes.

  • what if i want to be cheap and creative? is that ok?

  • this is the most unique thing i've seen from a foodie on youtube!

  • I'm not cheap, I'm just poor.

  • No, I'm definitely cheap.

  • very nice :]

  • Chipohtelay?

  • How long does this oil last after you add the spice, i have heard it will not last as long as if it was just the oil? Any Ideas would help.

  • your not cheap, ur creatve

  • Very nice Chef John! I can't imagine anyone not liking chipotle...

  • "you're not cheap, you've creative." lol I like that.

  • Like your videos but this one sucks. ' Tjipole' oile.?? Use real, smokede paprikas, the powdered ones have at fake, chemical taste.

  • @bademesteren .....it's Chipotle.

  • Your not cheap, your creative! Lol

  • @shenerdist Mine not cheap,mine creative?

  • Man... Even I could do this.

  • awesome!

  • how about cayenne?

  • @gotwonderland, I guess. But then, we already have hot sauces like Tabasco that use that.

  • wow ... this is the first time i hear of this thing.... cool ... i learned something today ^^

  • I thought it said Chocolate Oil xD

  • @LemonieRainbow OMG! I thought the same thing! I for some reason thought it said Chocolate Chipotle Oil. hahaha

  • @andrewfyip The preview picture thumbnail thingy looked like chocolate too xD

  • I'm going to compromise & do it for a week day & just leave the spices in it & tell them to filter it if they want. ... I'm kidding. I die inside that I have to say that because I love just letting it hang, but there are so many who take things so seriously I have to spell it out ... & I hate them for it. Not kidding! lol

  • This is almost better than a "dick in a box".

  • i think I just found what i'm making my dad for christmas. Thanks for the great idea chef john!

  • Please upload your brownie recipe

  • Great idea/tip. What about "red pepper flakes"?

    Thanks

  • Would grapeseed oil be an appropriate neutral oil for this sort of recipe?

  • i really like this idea i might make this for my boyfriends mom :D also did anyone else get the funny chromebook commercial?

  • He said to use Canola oil I believe. But- where to buy the ground up chipotle? I'm in Queens, NY. Thank you for this tutorial.

  • I like to pour chipotle oil on my dog then lick it off.

  • Things like curry powders,turmeric, Smoked Paprika....Cayenne???

  • I think it goes very well with some drops of sesame oil and some whole dried pepper in the bottle for decoration :)

  • what is the time range within the oil should be used ?? because i know olive oil turns bad quicker than canola and such but.. would it be best to make like severals 2oz bottles to give to many poeple or it will stay fresh for a long time ?? and do you suggest canola over sunflower oil?? what would be your other 2 best spices or combination for spiced oils :) haha i want to give it for the holidays so help would be appreciated :D

  • Always put a smile on my face! Thanks!

  • My relative's wife is from Thailand and she eats a crap load of spicy foods. She carries around a bottle of tobasco sauce wherever she goes. Now I know what to make her for Christmas! Thank you Chef John!! :D

  • Making your own oils, boss.

  • Cheese cloth works well as filter also

  • @OfficialJerla hoe hoe hoe ? :P

  • Saucepan? You mean a butter melting pan?

  • what kind of recipis can you do with chipotle oil??

  • Chef John, how long does the oil last for?

  • It's very simple not like we(asian) making flavor oil but I do like both!

  • @sjunghee hahahaha

  • Not enough cayenne.

  • Lol I want to make this as a gift for someone in my family, but I realized I'm the only one who would like this ahaa. Guess im makin spicy oil

  • Comment removed

  • can this also be used as a lube?

  • @pegbster LMAO! you should make it and try it out and share it with the world lol

  • @pegbster haha, the warming kind :-P

  • @pegbster Fuck yeah! That's so hot.

  • @pegbster Masocrist's lube. :d

  • @pegbster if you want to burn your dick sure why the fuck not most any oil can be at least a mild lube

  • @pegbster I was the victim of a novelty cinnamon lube once many years ago... It felt like my insides were melting. I imagine chipotle lube would be very much the same -- only more ethnic...

  • @PennyDreadfuI ...what?? l-l-lube? m-melting? ethnic?

  • @PennyDreadfuI lol, well said.

  • @PennyDreadfuI Hey are you on Archive of our Own writing delightful fan fiction? Sorry, if I have mistaken you for someone else. If you are OMG!

    I just had to ask.

  • @ValentineLissar Delightful? That's a new one, my dear Watson.

  • @PennyDreadfuI You are EATING it right? Just making sure. :P

  • @PennyDreadfuI It IS you! Fancy seeing you here! I'm a huge fan. =D

  • @pegbster Want to find out?

  • @misszale ill find out in a week :)

  • @pegbster LOL. Hey they make rubbers that heat up, so why the hell not.

  • his voice is like those PBS voices. so cool!

  • This would be best used as a reagent in biodiesel

  • Cheap but creative. Quite the wordsmith Chef John.

  • Sounds like Kermit the frog that's one heck of a chef lol...

  • V oils, Disastrous

  • ive been doing this for YEARS. What I do is take cracked up dried chilis, add any oil I had available, put it back into the oil bottle, and just let it sit in the cupboards for a month or like 3 weeks. I don't even heat it. It takes longer but its an amazing thing, especially something like garlic ginger sesame oil. Amazing for stirfry

  • Oh love this--OKay where did you get the "cute little bottle thingies?"

  • @evelutionofone Google "swingtop bottles". I make limoncello every year for gifts and I order these by the case. They're awesome. If you want just onesie-twosie, The Container Store carries them in their apothecary section.

  • The thing you said about being creative and not cheap made me laugh so hard!

Oh,a little warning for those who want to make oil with fresh herbs or garlic (or anything with moisture), there can be risk of botulism. To prevent that, use oils that were made with fresh items in a week (meaning, don't let is flavour for a week).

    LOVE your videos Chef John!!!

  • "You're no cheap, your creative"

I thing I'm gonna use that some day lol

  • but how will i afford the thousands of dollars or underwear?

  • ok if i am the one who loves it spicy ... how do i make someone give me this as a gift?
