I went to this movie opening night without ever seeing a trailer. I had ZERO urge to see Titanic with my friends.... Best movie choice I ever made! Most intense last ten minutes of movie I'd ever seen. I fell in love with the overall themes and the open-ended ending.... A++
The film soundtrack was released on February 24, 1998 by TVT Records label. It features music from the original score by Trevor Jones, and versions of the songs "Sway" and "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" performed by singer Anita Kelsey. It also includes music by Hughes Hall from the trailer, as well as songs by Gary Numan, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Course of Empire that did not appear in the film. The music for the film was edited by Simon Leadley and Jim Harrison.
Really great film. Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connelly, Kiefer Sutherland, William Hurt were great. The 90's had so many overlooked & underrated SCI-FI films - this one, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, Virtuosity, Tha Lawnmower Man, Alien 3, Space Truckers, Strange Days, The Arrival, Mimic, The Apocalypse (1997), Virus, RoboCop 2, Them, Body Snatchers, eXistenZ, Sphere, Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, Anaconda, The Shadow Men etc
I saw this movie in the theater and it literally b-l-e-w me a-w-a-y. If they ever re-release this in theaters somewhere, I will be first in line. Easily one of the finest film noir's ever.
Yes, it was a powerful experience in the theaters, even with that spoiling dialog at the beginning. If they re-released the Director's Cut it would be amazing. So many people who've never heard of it before would leave the theater thinking... "where have you been all my life"? DVD sales would probably shoot through the roof.
I think audiences today would appreciate it more too.
Great SF movie. The thing i really love is the "Shell beach" postal card and advertisement, like you know the carrot, an incentive. But they never will see such a beach, it's a good metaphor for life : "Go on man, work, one day we let you enjoy your life" and the day of the retirement, you croak.
wow. I've seen this film but way to many spoilers in this.
A world where...... that just spoiled that part for people and its said in the trailer. I like the 20-30 second movie trailers/teasers....far less spoilers.
God! Jennifer looked so cute in this! But the lead-guy was so terrible delivering his lines, timing was off, no emotion, totally ruined the film for me. Such a pitty cause I loved the style and concept soo much. Even our Mr. Jack Bauer put down an interesting character.
I saw Dark City the first month it came out and it still impresses me to this day. I don't think this movie will ever be dated or overlooked by serious movie buffs. The style, the music, the story, the cinematography, and acting all work together to create this masterpiece. Even the trailer sent chills.
@underbightdog23 Agreed. It can't have been easy to play a complete amnesiac, at least the other actors had a history to build character from, even if it was a fake one. Rufus did a great job of leading the audience through the labyrinth of this movie and making them identify with the very alien (no pun intended) struggle he went through.
I thought he was far better than Jennifer, who is adorable but spends most of the movie looking rather... vapid and/or stoned. ^^;
@zoinomiko wow.......i didnt ever think of how hard it must be to play and amnesiac. and i agree Mrs.Connelly looked like she was trippin the entire film.
Jennifer Connelly... *fap fap fap*

This is pretty much the only movie I like Rufus Sewell in. He always plays the dick or bad guy in movies. Why doesn't he do more roles like this?
