Jezus jesus! U call this a REVIEW???????? All you are doing is reading up the sales brochure while at the same time showing the options the stupid machine has on the screen. Look it up: what is a RE-VIEW?
I have a Vizio 42" 1080p and blu ray playback via Playstation 3 is excellent, but DVD upconversion is only so-so. Can someone tell me if its worth me shelling out $500 bucks for this player? I'd really love to see some of my DVDs that have no Blu-Ray version (Pink Floyd's The Wall and PULSE mainly) in better resolution. Thanks!!
@spiritsword83 On a 42" TV I'd say the upgrade in DVD scaling isn't worth $500 myself. If you had a 92" projection setup or something similar, then I could recommend it, but I'd say $500 is better spent upgrading to a bigger display than the better scaling on DVD's.
If you'd like to provide feedback on what you would prefer that the video would cover, or your issues with that, I'll take it into account for future videos. Otherwise, I'll delete your comment in a week.
@Emannikcufesin: I have not used the LG BD390 myself, I've only read reviews that other people have posted for it. Of all the Blu-ray players I have used (multiple Pioneer's, the PS3, Denon's, etc...) the Oppo is easily my choice, even with the cost. I believe you're getting higher quality DVD scaling than on the LG, and you are getting SACD/DVD-A playback. I would love to try out the LG, however, as I believe it probably is a great player.
@uncoolnova - I disagree. The Oppo is a nice Blu Ray player but is not worth the $500. Unless you absolutely need to have SACD or DVD Audio (really how many people do?) skip this player. The LG BD390 boots BD's faster and includes wifi streaming. Features that are far more important when considering which player to purchase. The Oppo is not a bad player but it is not superior to the $300 LG BD390.
@Emannikcufesin The Oppo's video processor chip is videophile quality. The LG is ok for people who know little about home theater or don't care but the Oppo gives you the must bang for the buck. It's quicker than the PS3 and the BD390, also the most important part is sound quality which when compared to the Oppo, the PS3 and the BD390 are sorely lacking
@khylate, your statements are generally incorrect. The BD390 proves to be an excellent performer in all of the HD video processing tests, even on difficult 1080i 2:2 content found on most concert discs. The player sailed through all of the deinterlacing tests on the Spears & Munsil High Definition Benchmark Blu-ray Edition. The player is lightning fast and yes, quicker than the Oppo. Please save your belitting comments for someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Have a good day.
My statements are not incorrect as I'm quite familiar with both of them (working in Home Theater and trying to be informed lead to that). The 390 is indeed a good player that does have a quick load time...just not as quick as the Oppo which with it's Anchor Bay chip closes down the competition. I'm also confused as to how honesty is confused with belittling. A
I haven't used the Sony 560, but since I got the Oppo BDP-83 I haven't used my PS3 to play a Blu-ray movie since. Just as fast or faster, works with your universal remote, can bitstream audio codecs (if needed), better DVD upconversion, better audio quality, and SACD/DVD-A support.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the OPPO players. Lots of mods out there too to make them even better.
