Picked up in February looking for a more "Carry-able" than my G27. Like the size, weight, & concealability. The pistol is very well made in the USA. Accuracy is okay at 21 feet, sights suck. I like almost everything about it except the sight and trigger pull. The travel is just short of an inch, the trigger break is at the last 1/16th of an inch of travel. The firing pull requires an endless pull to get the pistol to fire. That creates a lot of "Trigger" to defeat in the aim.
hey i would really like you to message me back i have watched every one of your videos and i think you the best person to look at on youtube whenever i have a quistion i look at ur vids plz write me back thanks
@rossdeutsch im about to buy it this week... gonna be my first gun purchase... glad i moved to a state where i could buy guns lol... i can buy it for less than 300 offline... ill probably have to wait over a week for it and i think ill have to pick it up at my local gun shop... but i cant wait to get it... im a huge ruger fan... i love the LCR also but its a little expensive right now
@rossdeutsch GLAD TO HEAR U LIKE IT - HONESTLY I HEARD NOTHING BUT GOOD REVIEWS ABOUT THIS GUN - JUST SOME MISCONCEPTION ABOUT WHAT AMMO TO USE - WHAT AMMO ARE U RUNNIN THRU IT? - I WAS GUNNA BUY MAGETCH 77 GRAIN HOLLOW POINT - ANY ADVICE FOR AMMO?
@WJGREGORIOS I just have some remington hollow points in it now, BUT I am going to get Federal Hydro-shok Hollow points when I get the chance, that is my MAIN carry round for all my pistols.
Have had one now as one of my concealed carry guns. Never had any problems at the range, and would recommend as an all day carry weapon. Good video which I'll be recommending to others!
I think the trigger pull is way to long I know it's part of the safety of the gun but shot a glock 26 then shot the lcp it's night and day between the two.
I'm seriously considering the Ruger LCP for my first handgun. If I have just one pistol, I think this will allow me a great concealed carry option and, while far from perfect, it would still be ok for home defense etc. At least untill I find the money for pistol # 2.
Cant help it, I've been watching youtube vids for months now on different firearms and your reviews are all over. I'm just going to subscribe, thanks for posting them
Good video review. I too have been seriously considering an LCP for concealed carry mainly for size and price. It seems to be the best compromise of all factors. I have a P90 which is definitely not suitable for CC but I have experienced feed problems with that pistol using certain types of ammo. I hope the LCP is not picky with regards to ammo types. I would love to be able to afford the Sig P238 but at twice the price of the LCP I have to rule it out.
I have carried the LCP for about a year now and fired it maybe 250 times. It jammed two times in the first 25 rounds and has never jammed since. I am of average experience and average size and the gun is easy to conceal, carry and shoot. The pocket holster is a must since it is so small.
The best CCW in the world is one you will actually carry so don't take anyone's advice to the bank. Test it out for yourself.
****** Can someone tell me if .380 ammo is always more than 9mm or is it just the websites i'm looking at? I'm close to getting an LCP or LC9 and now i'm looking at the ammo price to make my mind up. (took forever to get down to these two pocket pistols (model wise), now its all on the price of the ammo). Please get back to me if you have info on this. Thanks - D
@DeeRugz4u it is always more expensive asn as long as the 9mm is the 2nd most common round sold it will stay cheaper than the .380 which is like 15th on the list. It's a supply and demand type thing
@tonyhines got ya! I decided to go with a 9mm but the problem now is i'm stuck between the LC9 and the DB9. I just shot a diamondback 9 for the first time a couple of days ago.....its like a mini glock. Thank you for the response, now I know its not just the area that I'm in but 380 is more expensive all across the board
Personaly in my opinion the ruger LCP is just a little too small and has too much of a trigger pull. with only a 6 round mag capacity id rather just carry a little .38 revolver. which is more powerful then the .380cartrige
i finally shot mine today and this thing is snappy, i had to put the grip extension on after my first magazine finished, it was not very fun too shoot, the slide hit my thumb and now i got a blood blister, also out of 51 rds i had 3 FTE, it may need broke in like u said
I have recently obtained my ccw permit and I used a Springfield 1911 for the class. Needless to say concealing a full size 1911 without bulge or profile is almost impossible unless I were to wear a tent. So I really wanted a sub compact that wasn't a gangbanger special or a cheap P.O.S. Your video on the Lc9 basically sold me that pistol. Then my wife got her ccw premit and didn't know what pistol she would truly be able to use and carry. This vid sold her the Lcp so ruger owes you some cash.
great guns BUT , i hate the long triggers. there not for me at all. I got a hi-point for a cheap reliable carry gun and the trigger isnt like a 4 mile pull just to fire it. I just personaly like the short triggers.
@pinz21 yeah hi-point, trust me if i had any problems with this gun ide say so, but in 4 years ive had 2 jams from shitty ammo. Guns been great and im still glad it was the first hand gun ive ever bought.
I just purchased this weapon about 6 months ago. I know there was some problems on earlier models and Ruger fixed them. The problem is, after 250 rounds, mine jams. I have changed to ammo to a higher grade, and even had some buddies shoot it, and still jams. Sent it back to Ruger, and they have had it about 3 weeks, with no reply. Your thoughts?
I just subscribed to your channel. Extraordinarily informative! I am a huge Ruger fan but very new to guns. I have a 10-22 and a P95. I am looking for a smaller carry weapon and am very interested in the LCP vs the LC9. Any thoughts between the two or any other pistol in the similar category and price range? Thank you!
was thinking about getting my wife an LCP. she's got small hands and i was thinking the .380 was about right for her hand size. what other namebrand might you recommend i check into for suiting this purpose? (female with small hands, small caliber, ccw)
I have an LCP and a holster very similar to the one you're using. Do you believe it is safe to carry with a round in the chamber? The owner's manual explicitly says not to, but I don't know if this is purely for legal reasons. I don't see that it has a drop safety like my Glocks do. Thanks. Life is good:)
I have a piece of advice for anyone that gets this gun- go practice with it, but after you're comfortable with it, load it up with personal defense and put it in your pocket. The guide rod / recoil spring assembly really takes a beating after a few hundred rounds, and the interior gets incredibly dirty too. That said, I love my lcp !!!
I need to quit watching these videos. Last week I bought a Springfield XDm Compact in 9mm and then yesterday I bought an LCP with the chromed slide. Hopefully I'll actually get a chance to actually shoot them later this week.
I just traded for one of these yesterday. Can't wait to take it shooting this weekend. In FL here, and it gets ridiculous trying to carry a larger firearm in the hotter months, because it's 105 degrees outside and 90% humidity.
Would you recommend this for someone looking to have a day to day carry gun, being their first? I've shot rifles and pistols both, but of course have never carried as I haven't had my license. I like this as it seems to be loved by all those who have shot it, and also I want something as hidden as possible.
I'm to young to be able to have a CCP, but I did have a gun very much like this, the only problem I had was how much .380 ammo is. But I'd rather have a Ruger SR9, or a Ruger SR9C
I own it and love it. My other carry is a Kahr CM9 which is not quite as small but is a 9mm. I would highly recommend either for concealed carry. Great review as always.
First off, you seem like the most responsible/educated video poster on gun reviews which is why I'm writing this question to you in hopes of get a response.
I am TORN between 3 guns for C.C... Ruger LCP, Sig P238 , Kahr p380... can you shed some insight on which you would choose? Price is not a factor, and I am left handed. please help!
@benellishotty, Well, wrong-handed people should not even be SHOOTING guns. :-) Just kidding.
I've not shot the Sig, but I'm partial to the trigger of the P380. If you don't want the bigger brother, the PM9, I'd definitely lean toward the P380. Great shooter for a small gun- just pull and shoot - nothing to switch off.
@benellishotty Don't overlook the Ruger LCR, the revolver model. It comes in both .38 spl and .357 magnum. There is also the LC9 to be considered. Slightly larger, but worth considering. They will run about $100 more than the LCP. Depends on how much your life is worth to you. I love Ruger and I trust Ruger.
@benellishotty The Sig is wonderful as well. It is like a mini 1911, so it has a safety that you would have to operate with your trigger finger as a lefty. I love my LCP, with the exception of the trigger. The Sig has the best trigger, single action, then the Kahr. The Ruger has a crummy trigger, but it's half the price of the other two. If price is not a factor, go with the Kahr if you are not comfortable with the safety on the Sig.
@benellishotty The Sig P238 is 1911 style and has a right hand safety. Other than that the gun is awesome, has factory sig nite sites, REAL sights not some slits, light weight, 6+1, and very reliable. It is probably the best 380 you can find but it is pricey so that keeps people from buying it. If i had money I would get the new Sig P938, but it is in the $700-800 region. Sig P238 should be in the $450-550 range.
I own this gun it's a very good carry gun, just carry it in your jean front pocket don't keep one up for safety if you can't pull the slide back before you need it it's too late any way!
Hey what do people think of the LCP's life expectancy? I love shooting mine, love practicing different little drills with it just to kill a Saturday afternoon. Point being, I find it pretty comfortable to shoot (after being used to .357's) and treat it like a range gun.
Great job making me feel better about my new gun. It is a sweet little pocket rocket. In you face as I cock it. Lol as you run 1shot off and it's done.
i almost went with a Lcp but the shop had a very nice lightlyused keltec p3at w crimsontrace lazer, 2mags, and pocket holster for 300 out the door im very happy with it also the lazer is great id say the onlything the ruger has on it is the slidelock
@SeenGod Yeah it has, but it is slang that really annoys most shooters, and I mean real shooters. Not guys who sit on their couch posting things like this on Youtube videos: "My cuzin owns dis gun. he let me shoot it att 1mile and i hit a qwarter wit 1 shoot. I also 0wn a fulyy automatik glock 18."
Mr Hickok, would you carry one of these as a back-up? I love the super smooth zero-snag-in-the-pocket and fly weight the Ruger offers. But would you opt for the glock 26 instead for a "oh shit!" firearm for everyday carry?
@myfiftybucks - my 2 cents - I bought an LCP because i'm only 5'7. If i wear business type clothing or shorts and sandals, I have zero excuse not to carry the LCP. If i had the clock 26, i'd leave it at home sometimes if I'm just wearing a polo and slacks.
Nice video I enjoyed watching and appreciate you posting. I just picked up the LCP yesterday at local gun store here in town as they were on sale and running a promo. Even got to meet the CEO of Ruger there which was pretty cool. I carry a Rossi snub .357 revolver but not always most convenient because of weight and bulkiness. Been looking for a nice .380 pocket pistol for a while now and love the look and feel of the LCP, at least for its intended purpose. Again, great video thanks for posting!
I have a new lcp in od green and have put 200 rounds though it and had 1 fail to Feed in the first 15 to 20 rounds but now it perfect. I love it and it will be my ccw when the nice mail man brings my permit
just picked up my S&W bodyguard .380 yesterday, i opted to go S&W over ruger only because the S&W cost me a little less then the ruger, and the BG 380 has an integrated lazer sight. Pretty bitchen little guns! like HK45 said, amazing what todays tech. will allow!
have you heard of the glock 25? its a .380 ACP glock pistol illegal in the United States because it did not meet the requirements for importation to the us.
@86turkishman i always carry my glock 19 but yeah when it can to a decision between the lcr or lcp i bought the lcr chambered in 357mag...i'm thinkin a 380 now...but ruger just presented their 2011 lcp...so now i'm debating
Thanks for this video! Very informative! Would you suggest this to a first-time gun owner and operator? I am very interested in learning how to shoot and earning my concealed handgun license. Is there a specific gun you would recommend for a woman's first gun?
Hey Hickok45, I actually won one at a NWTF event. Haven't gotten to shoot it yet. I need to do a thorough cleaning and read up on it. But I was curious to know the type of holster you have or perhaps if the holster is someone elses then is there one you would recommend. Lastly, looking down the top of the slide there is hardly any sights to line up with. For me it's difficult. Do you have any recommendations for improving target aquisition speed or should I just practice w/ what i have.lol
ruger quality stinks..even their hammers on their revolvers will wobble from side to side..get a walther ppk or a bersa mini thunder .380 if you want a good .380
very nice gun i to carry one as a backup weapon, lets talk about pocket lint any gun that you carry in your pocket without it being in a holster is going to get lint in and on it if its oiled correctly, inspect you gun often you see lint in it clean it,keeping it clean makes it work when you need,as far as taking it apart often doesnt hurt anything you need to no how to strip and clean your weapon/ not cleaning it worse because powder residue is corrosive and it can also stick to you extractor
Great video review. I just placed an order for my LCP-CT this morning and I was wondering about that holster that you've got here. What model is it and do you think it will fit the LCP with the Crimson Trace on it?
Hickok: Enjoy your vids greatly. I carry the LCP as a backup. LOVE IT. Our training div. tells not to take it apart often. The more we take it apart the more we weaken it and not to clean it a lot. We carry the Sig P229 as duty issue. It is mandatory we take it apart & clean it EVERY time we fire it. Would really appreciate you addressing this issue. I want the Ruger LC9. Live in the Atlanta area & NOBODY here has one in stock. When I watch your vids feel like I'm @ the "compound" with you.
excellent review. Hickok45, do you find you are more accurate shooting the LCP using just the tip of your finger on the trigger vs. the crease behind the first finger joint? I find I have to make a really conscious effort to do this otherwise it fires totally inaccurately due to it being such a small, light gun with such a long trigger pull. even if it feels a lot more awkward.
@hickok45 Number 1 I love your videos. Very informative. Great info. Just something I want to make known to you if you have not already heard. My father almost bought this, but stopped midway when he found out about problems it has had with something about pockey lint? Just lettin you know.
I found if I carried mine with Crimson Trace laser in a Talon wallet holster I almost forget it is on me and it kind of feels like having your wrist watch in the shop and you don't walk the same. I tend to carry it in hot weather for concealed carry and when I carry a Glock I still carry it as back up. It is automatic to have it on me by now. New it had some break in issues, but I actually don't try range work longer than twenty yards and mostly 7 yard range.
Any tips for shooting such a small gun? Its so tiny I can't grip mine without putting too much trigger finger which results in shots to the left. Thanks for the great videos!
I think that's the only advantage. Bodyguard is larger, heavier, more expensive, and the trigger is worse. The laser is also more difficult to activate than the LCP with Crimson Trace.

I'm to young to be able to have a CCP, but I did have a gun very much like this, the only problem I had was how much .380 ammo is. But I'd rather have a Ruger SR9, or a Ruger SR9C
THEweskiller 5 months ago
I own it and love it. My other carry is a Kahr CM9 which is not quite as small but is a 9mm. I would highly recommend either for concealed carry. Great review as always.

First off, you seem like the most responsible/educated video poster on gun reviews which is why I'm writing this question to you in hopes of get a response.
I am TORN between 3 guns for C.C... Ruger LCP, Sig P238 , Kahr p380... can you shed some insight on which you would choose? Price is not a factor, and I am left handed. please help!
benellishotty 6 months ago 5
@benellishotty, Well, wrong-handed people should not even be SHOOTING guns. :-) Just kidding.
I've not shot the Sig, but I'm partial to the trigger of the P380. If you don't want the bigger brother, the PM9, I'd definitely lean toward the P380. Great shooter for a small gun- just pull and shoot - nothing to switch off.

@benellishotty Get the smith and wesson bodyguard 380, best 380 out there
Madison1911R1 5 months ago
@benellishotty Don't overlook the Ruger LCR, the revolver model. It comes in both .38 spl and .357 magnum. There is also the LC9 to be considered. Slightly larger, but worth considering. They will run about $100 more than the LCP. Depends on how much your life is worth to you. I love Ruger and I trust Ruger.
bvscfanatic 5 months ago
@benellishotty The Sig is wonderful as well. It is like a mini 1911, so it has a safety that you would have to operate with your trigger finger as a lefty. I love my LCP, with the exception of the trigger. The Sig has the best trigger, single action, then the Kahr. The Ruger has a crummy trigger, but it's half the price of the other two. If price is not a factor, go with the Kahr if you are not comfortable with the safety on the Sig.
MrLooseSkrews 4 months ago
@benellishotty Ever consider the new Micro Desert Eagle?
kf4wto 4 months ago
@benellishotty The Sig P238 is 1911 style and has a right hand safety. Other than that the gun is awesome, has factory sig nite sites, REAL sights not some slits, light weight, 6+1, and very reliable. It is probably the best 380 you can find but it is pricey so that keeps people from buying it. If i had money I would get the new Sig P938, but it is in the $700-800 region. Sig P238 should be in the $450-550 range.

could you possibly do a bersa thunder 380.

Point being, I find it pretty comfortable to shoot (after being used to .357's) and treat it like a range gun.

lol clip vs. mag
could we all agree that "clip" has become a slang term for magazine over the years?
SeenGod 9 months ago
@SeenGod Yeah it has, but it is slang that really annoys most shooters, and I mean real shooters. Not guys who sit on their couch posting things like this on Youtube videos: "My cuzin owns dis gun. he let me shoot it att 1mile and i hit a qwarter wit 1 shoot. I also 0wn a fulyy automatik glock 18."

hawkdlb06 9 months ago
Mr Hickok, would you carry one of these as a back-up? I love the super smooth zero-snag-in-the-pocket and fly weight the Ruger offers. But would you opt for the glock 26 instead for a "oh shit!" firearm for everyday carry?
myfiftybucks 9 months ago
@myfiftybucks - my 2 cents - I bought an LCP because i'm only 5'7. If i wear business type clothing or shorts and sandals, I have zero excuse not to carry the LCP. If i had the clock 26, i'd leave it at home sometimes if I'm just wearing a polo and slacks.
mout12 9 months ago
@mout12 I'm 5'6'' 150lbs. I conceal a Glock 19 pretty good with a supertuck. Just jeans or cargo pants and a polo shirt.

Again, great video thanks for posting!

just picked up my S&W bodyguard .380 yesterday, i opted to go S&W over ruger only because the S&W cost me a little less then the ruger, and the BG 380 has an integrated lazer sight. Pretty bitchen little guns! like HK45 said, amazing what todays tech. will allow!

have you heard of the glock 25? its a .380 ACP glock pistol illegal in the United States because it did not meet the requirements for importation to the us.

Do you have any recommendations for improving target aquisition speed or should I just practice w/ what i have.lol

very nice gun i to carry one as a backup weapon, lets talk about pocket lint any gun that you carry in your pocket without it being in a holster is going to get lint in and on it if its oiled correctly, inspect you gun often you see lint in it clean it,keeping it clean makes it work when you need,as far as taking it apart often doesnt hurt anything you need to no how to strip and clean your weapon/ not cleaning it worse because powder residue is corrosive and it can also stick to you extractor
0brandamien0 1 year ago
I have one of these LCP's, it's tiny and a stinker to shoot.
After popping a half dozen mags my fingers are sore.
But it is an excellent choice for pocket carry.

When I watch your vids feel like I'm @ the "compound" with you.

fnkdrmmr 1 year ago
excellent review.

I think that's the only advantage. Bodyguard is larger, heavier, more expensive, and the trigger is worse. The laser is also more difficult to activate than the LCP with Crimson Trace.
