  • I Love it!

  • And Brook Benton is one of my favorite singers,

    he's got a great voice.

  • Definitely, my favorite song of

    all times.

  • Gosh this is so good/classic.

  • Thr best version of this song ever done.Way to go mr Benton.

  • Un número 1 del Soul , canción imposible de mejorar , no me canso de escucharla , y son mas de 20 años oyendola casi todos los días.

  • great song, makes me think of the blaxploitation movie House On Skull Mountain where it did rain at night in Georgia :)

  • this is real music....pls dnt disrespect

  • @geokar...do not disrespect the song!

  • Why would it be rainibg all over the world and he looks so happyabout it? Am i uninformed maybe?

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs and Brook Benton was absolutely wonderful singing it. He was such a special singer, with such a special voice and can never be replaced.

  • Brook Benton, is soooo smooth..... he reminds me of Sammy Davis Jr with his expressions on stage....there will never be an other like him....gotta love this man !

  • If in life.... I ever become a broken man this song will play over and over in my mind :(

  • love this song makes me sad when i hear it

  • makes you want to get up and Dance doesn't it?...

  • motown at its best!!!!

  • This song was a favorite for my mother and it will always remind me of her. It will always live long in my heart as I meditate on the good times that I had with my mother. She was the best mom that anyone could ever ask God for. Sincerely

  • This is my mother's favorite song and it will always be remembered in my heart.

  • I've done the rounds. Benton's version tops the charts. Ruffin appears overrated, but I still like his version better than Benson's. Randy Crawford fascinates and looks sweet, but Benton is excellent and no other professional singer (found on youtube) comes anywhere near it.

  • ON a scale from 'good - great - superb/wonderful - excellent/fantastic - brilliant - speechless', my finding: excellent vocally, and the performance is great, and the song itself and nostalgia - utterly brilliant. (pretty 'good' analysis from me on a Monday)

  • Man was all class. He deserved many more songs as good as Rainy Night In Georgia. My favorite will always be "Hotel Happiness," because I like that bluesy Brook Benton. "Lie To Me," is also excellent. He deserved a far more reaching audience. I wonder if any of the younger people today who listen to music would even know who this man is? I feel much of this style, including soul music in general, has been dismissed today. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe singers like Adele are the new soul music.

  • So right--this is Brooks song but Randy Crawford does a great rendition--totall classic by a class man

  • i just love brook.this song did so very well for him but i like his 1959-60 stuff so much more.i just think he was so great.thanks Brook!

  • Nobody can sing this like Brook... But it feels good to try.......:) Great Video posted here. Thanks Phily !! :)

  • What a great nostalgic song ! Mr. Benton performs it so beautiifully that it never fails to arise emotions in my heart when I listen to it. R.I.P. great singer in your voice you will live forever.

  • If Brook never sang another song in his life, this is the one to remember forever!

  • magnificent...

  • this has got to be the greatest song ever written.i could never get tried of hearing it

  • One of the all time great voices.

  • Thank you, Mr. Benton :)

  • Attn: American Idol Judges this is how you define a singer owning a performance.

  • Yes,Yes,Yes I can remember my mother would play this great singers albums. This is totally on of my favorites. I can listen to this song over and over, and i just don't get tired of great tunes such as this. Thank you for posting this golden anthem. Thank you Mr. Brook Benton great inspiration. Makes me want to move to Georgia.

  • I would have given my right arm to have been at this recording!

  • A really wonderful song, and BB is its best interpreter.

  • What a marvelous, flawless "live" performance is this. Brook Benton is, by far, the best performer of this exceptional song.

  • My favorite song of all time.

  • So many memories!

  • Great performance by BB and the band behind him. Love the way the guitar works with him on this song.

  • Lord, i believe it's raining....... all over the world.

  • great singer but sounds too much like in the 50s

  • HOW can a man stand up there and sing and perform without flaw ? What a gift from God .

  • This man really makes you feel this song

  • SUNG BY MANY BUT NO ONE LIKE HIM

  • What a truly awesome performance, both by Brook, and the band. Gotta' love the Fender Strat! Thank you Tony Joe White, for putting together this great song, one of the best. Just love the bluesy, soulful voice, nobody sings this better. His Gospel roots, and influence are very apparent. God rest your soul, my friend, you were born to sing! Joerocks

  • Suave! Great singer.

  • With a nice girl in a tent :) QC

  • Music is like scent. It can transport us back to that time in our memories. It's always fun to take a trip to the past and relive those times in our hearts and minds.

  • Powerful!

  • Still fabulous!! Love Brook Benton.

  • its a pity these artist works are not appreciated to the fullest, we need to teach the youth about these guys.

  • Agreed, TIMELESS, this song makes me think about my past loves, allthough puppy love i guess but still, TIMELESS............

  • WOW. Timeless.

  • Love Brook.....this song has been one of my fav's since the 70's.....awesome.

  • When I first heard this song in 1970, I knew what milk and honey would sound like if only it could talk. What a power house live performance.

  • Old uncle Benjamin, when I found out I had a famous relative I told all my friends in school they said who is Brook Benton and I' got mad

  • I've always loved this song, but if he'd made it today, folks would be saying, "Dude...you're HOMELESS...how the hell is THAT romantic?"

  • ...The Talent is Supreme...The Emotion Is Raw...The Words Hold You Spellbound...

  • In 2008 it had been raining for like 3 days in the ATL, (ATLANTA). I would crank this up on the third night of rain my punk azz neighbors call the cops wasn't that a biach'.The cops reply was it is raining but please turn this down

  • Low smooth and sexy, Lord that guys can sing a song to go deep in your soul

  • Wonderful song brings me back always to when I lived in Alabama and Georgia.

  • @syretta2 Wow, I grew up in Alabama. So we're like neighbors. Greetings.

  • Any one know who was on drums?? I can't get a good look, but it looks like it could Papa Joe Jones. Jo used to turn his drumsticks around like that, (shown for an instant at beginning). Papa Jo taught my father to play drums, used to come visit when I was young. I don't if that's him but the few glances I can get sure do look him. I don't know if he was still playing in "82. He passed in "85. He was a very sweet man,. I remember him well. PW

  • I shit my pants every-time i hear him sing that first note.

  • The best performance of this song. What a strong & beautiful voice and what a command of rythm. Brook Benton, the man. RIP

  • This song always sends chills up and down my spine. A fantastically talented gentleman that is sorely missed.

  • a true music master at work, one of the greatest numbers ever writen god bless you brook & tony ''pure gold''

  • Tony Joe White wrote this song and "Polk Salade Annie" in the one week. Paid the rent for a while I bet !!

  • Raining over here, raining over there!!... Great stuff!

  • Brook Benton is one of the soul singers I like the most.

This particular performance of such a beautifull song is truly fantastic and touching.

I think some people hereunder are confusing Brook Benton and Ray Charles. Ray sang "Georgia on my mind " a whole difterent great song too.

This one is the kind of song I would listen to if I knew the World was going to end tomorrow. R.I.P. great Brook Benton.

  • This song was written by Tony Joe White. He had a big hit with Polk Salad Annie. He lives in Nashville and still writing songs..

  • I can listen to this song ny Brook Benton over and over and over and never got tired of it for years. It's just so beautiful. In this show his facial expressions just make be crack. Such charm. Oh we do miss him. Rest his beautiful soul....yes we all play the game don't we...

  • I guess im moving to Georgia soon :)

  • i was in viet nam and the monsoons where in season, and though i hope it was raining at home and she'ld stayed home but never the less she left anyway. not i have those what if's?

  • For the past 20 years, i 've been trying to find out what thos song was about. If anyone knows can you explain it to me please.

btw , beautiful song , i remember my dad playing it when i was a youth.

  • @KrazyK823 I too love this song. My take on it. It is about a man on the road, away from his love...could be that they split, could be he is a musician trying to make it on his own. Nonetheless, he is struggling, as evidenced by his taking a ride in a boxcar. He is melancholy, the mood heightened by the rain & hence because of his sadness he says it is rainin all over the world. So much richness to the lyrics "a distant moanin' of a train seems to play a sad refrain to the night." Ah, I feel it.

  • @KrazyK823

Um, it's about a guy who is in Georgia at night and he's missing his girl. Also, it's raining.

    *shrug*

  • I like the Ray Charles version better it had a lot more feeling to it

  • The brother was righteous..no other sound/voice

  • Every time it rains i this southeastern town which I live in now, I think of this song...and I love how he was having FUN doing it - his signature classic. I remember playing on many Top 40 stations that I worked at. BRA...VO!

  • what a voice - a real man's voice - beautiful - he died way too young

  • now this is music

  • I am Croat and I do not understand all words of this song but it is my favorite one. Brook Benton - you are the man!

  • @damat81

  • thumbs up if you found him because of one piece :D

  • One of the greatest voices ever! RIP, Brook.

  • you can't teach that, you either have it or not. its all about a performers respect for the music and the fans , .any of the current top 40 move you like this? if so set me straight.

  • Man That Voice ! So Smooth and Easy!!

  • I think I'll go upstairs and give the ol' lady a rub

  • Thanks for that Louie, here in Sedona, AZ, (hate to rub it in) but hey we all get our chances. Yesterday laid on the creek bed and day before 78 degrees!

  • You are still in our hearts, Brook!

  • You hear the emotion -- here....where is such emotion in the music of today.....non-existent I'm afraid.

  • Still ! Remembering and listening to you ! No wonder Sinatra devoted his entire sound room to you after he heard you sing " My Way " , and your " I've Gotta Be Me " !

    You certainly were !!!!!!!

  • this song is so beautiful and the music sounds like heaven.

  • Listen at those guitars. Just listen to them. Beautiful. And Brook is throwing it down.

  • Ray Charles did a bluesier version than this that was awesome. They are both classics!

  • beautiful song but*

  • great for cryptic messages

  • @Carbonite2010

WHY ! do u live in a crypt poor thing !

  • There was a certain type of singer epitomized by Brook benton, a mature, satiny, baritone that you just don't hear ant more. How much richer music was when we had the likes of Brook.

  • No lip synching for Brook Benton. I loved his hit recording of Rainy Night in Georgia (maybe Tony Joe White's greatest song); but this is just a terrific performance.

  • simply...great...!!

  • I kinda used to think it was Ray Charles who sang this one,

but major props to Mr Brook Benton. This is truly his song.

  • @hondolama I thought it was Ray Charles, too. But no matter. This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time.

  • This was my mother's favorite song. Thank you.

  • Such a smooth song.

  • What can I say! An iconic performance by a legend!

  • nice!!!! vid Taken Us back!!!!

  • Awh thanku for this fine video :)

  • Esta balada e esta voz sao eternas. O tema e lindo ...Brook Benton canta com alma . R.I.P.

  • vinkleman, maybe corny but very well put. Things that sound corny are usually honest and pure thoughts.

  • A música é fantástica, a voz de Brook Benton aveludada. Isso me leva a bons momentos de minha vida. Existem alguns caras que gravam uma música para sempre. simplesmente perfeito!

  • A stray kitten showed up outside my door at night in Dallas, TX on November 2, 2010 while it was raining and cold outside. It was rainy in Dallas but the only thoughts when it came to give her a name were "Georgia". So blame this song for her name.

  • this is the one i remember...somehow...somewhere...

  • This is one of those songs that everybody needs to just leave alone,

This is it - no covers wanted.

Great Band on this one too.

  • This is one of those songs that everybody needs to just leave alone,

This is it - no covers wanted.

  • Dear Mr. Brook Benton: You are loved and missed!

  • @thejazzman210 Said so very well, a timeless classic!!

  • @thejazzman210 Likesiwe, I can listen to this song ever and ever without getting tired of it. This interpretation is particularly deep. I love love it. Takes me to my blues blues times... So deep.

  • @thejazzman210 Likesiwe, I can listen to this song ever and ever without getting tired of it. This interpretation is particularly deep. I love love it. Takes me to my blues blues times... So deep. Brook Benton had so much charm too.. 'cause he's been there..

  • @thejazzman210 So do I. The Man has been "there" and expresses it so well... I know how you feel "jazzman".

  • @thejazzman210

Amen to that. I get chills and think my heart stops through it! Have you heard the Conway Twitty/Sam Moore version? Beautiful tribute

  • dis man said hovering, i think he's flying, the right word is roaring, David Ruffin is the best!!!

  • @aenonriver "Roaring" by my suitcase, tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night? I don't think that's right. Hovering is the correct word. Taking nothing from David, but this song was made famous by Brook Benton.

  • Same kind of sentiments are in Daughtry's "I'm Going Home". The Classic themes never really die out. ;-)

  • This is an artist. A great song from an artist. Timeless. Thank you for sharing!

  • simple a best!

  • Tony Joe White wrote the song and no cover artist will ever come close to performing it as well as TJW

  • @HippieTree3 wait a minute now, surely you don't classify Brook Benton as a cover artist?

  • this is the best song of all the time..

  • This song in the voice of the great Brook Benton has become timeless.

One cannot help but feel pain in his words. The music and the lyrics are so very beautfull . It is as if it is all happening to you.

To me this beautifull piece has real SOUL !

  • Class, style, perfect instrumentation, flawless vocalization. I actually look forward to rainy nights here in Chicago so I can listen to this song. It's a song I have to listen to on rainy nights when I'm alone, contemplating my life, reflecting on how life used to be. And it makes me feel so good. Just another great song from those magical 70's.
