  • People who can't sing really shouldn't try, it's just too embarrassing. Almost as embarrassing as his lyrics. Boy can play, though, that much he can do.

  • sounds like ayreon, cool

  • Супер!!! Стив Хаккет - драгоценность в диадеме Корифеев Музыки!!!

  • @btom22259 thanks for your info, will look for it

  • where can I get a copy of this concert on dvd?

  • Amazing Album! Some of his best material!

  • DARKTOWN is a very good album

  • 3 people are to shy to visit darktown!!!!!!

  • Devil music, but so great

  • gordon777777777777777777.....grow some balls!....if youre prepubescent, i humbly apoligize.

  • Obviously 3 people have no taste and do not like amazing music!

  • Finally decided to give his stuff a listen....WOW!

  • Comment removed

  • On Halloween I'm going to play this song over, and over, and over, and over, and...

  • Bahahahaa cheerfull indeed.. i just love HAckett too much!

  • What a fantastic riff! So cool! Hard to find "Darktown" in Canada though!

  • top man and top song !! see you at cambridge !!

  • I generally somewhat like Steve's solo albums, but I really didn't like this one. To me it seemed way too sinister sounding and dark. I like music that I can sing along to a bit and that is positive.

  • What a wonderful video !!!

    thanks +++

  • i always found Steve Hacketts guitar style so interesting but enjoyed Steve Howes shredding and amazing chord style more. But now i love Hackett so much more he is always interesting whether he's doing a mind blowing shred or getting unbelievable feedback or tapping or... He gives so much too guitar playing which he isn't credited for it is such a shame

  • The lyrics are definatly about being at school. A horrible, horrible school...

  • Sonzera muito boa . Saiu bem fora da sombra Genesis.

  • i marianna ntouvli to touvlo evgale tsonta ...

  • Wow.. this is HAckett meeting King Crimson round Power to Believe..

  • Gilbert suckssssssss

  • rulz steve hacket and guitar wars, paul gilbert teh bst

  • @MrLegion2407 OK, you like shit singing. Good for you

  • great performance

  • Only Steve Hackett could do this - top stuff

  • Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson) playin' the traps.

I like Steve's creepy Hammer Horror voice... not to everyone's taste, I realize.

  • Personally, I find 'Down Street' better.

  • NICELY DONE...

  • good song

  • OH MY GOD.......can't believe I'm watching this...

  • Is it true this is about the British school systems?

  • Very dark, very creepy, but very cool stuff. I always felt that Steve and Peter shared a sort of kinship in their artistic personalities. They aren't afraid to stray into the disturbing side of life. Take for example "The Barry Williams Show" and "Darktown". Phil and Mike's work seems shallow and childish by comparison...

  • @Shaggyshadric Hackett needs a singer...end of. All his good ideas are pissed on with his DALEK vocals.

  • From an amazing album

  • kickass

  • needs that heavy sax, but still sounds great!

  • Steve rocks!

  • This is too cool...

  • Best voice ever. I almost started smoking because of him.

  • Probably my new favorite comment.

  • it's electronically modified i'm sorry

  • METAL... ain't got sh*t on this guy!

  • @theRedPilll

    Absolutely right.

Todays metal tends to be a bunch of crappy arrogant composers trying to look scary and pyschopathic but rather looking like metal cases and clowns.

Hackett is a real musician & genius composer and this simple tune has more depth, anguish, pathos and terror than any shit piece of metal I've ever heard outside a few exceptions.

  • @lordsong7 being one of those 'exceptions' Dreamer deceiver by Judas Priest... i mean, what can be scarier than getting awoken by lsd about the mysticism that surrounds us and getting aware of the owns nothingness?

  • @lordsong7 or, you could say "crappy arrogant con posers!"

  • nice

  • Steve Hackett Raping, interesting.

  • any one happen to know if there is an official site for when/where the guitar wars are held?

  • He's darth vader XD

  • Bring back Pete Hicks!

  • How much Hackett's music would gain if he stopped singing.

Why is so difficult to find a sweet voice that would fit into his music??

  • You are so right, just like Paul Gilbert. The guy can play guitar but his singing is horrible

  • I agree, what is it with guitarists wanting to sing so badly? Ted Nugent and Ace Frehley also come to mind, ruin their music with their singing.

Steve doesn't need Peter and Phil to make his music awesome, but someone better than himself. His instrumental pieces are fantastic, the ones with his vocals.......hit and miss to me.

  • Singing is ok on his later albums.

  • i love the heavy tunes in it. simply perfect

  • i have this concert on dvd with paul gilber autograph :))

  • u talking about urself? :D

  • I'm a fan of Hackett's early work but this is just dumb.

The vocal effect is the gayest thing... it sounds like some Marvel comics bad guy voice.

  • You have insulted something that I like. Therefore I will insult you.

  • There's plenty of good material in Hackett's repertoire, however this is not an example of it.

  • Let's hope my nay-saying you doesn't disrupt the space-time continuum.

  • Well, if we wake up tomorrow and find that it's 1972, I'll know to blame you.

    ; )

  • Another Legend that remains from Genesis, one of the greatest bands out there, pioneers of progressive. This guy's talent is remarkeable. Look up blood on the rooftops by genesis this guy wrote it, ver well done.

  • please tell me Steve's touring in the US again! 2010 ?What a great show he puts on

  • I love how this is such a dark song, but you can still hear Nuno adding his funk to it

  • wow amazing as usual!!

    thx for sharing!

  • Did no one realize that's John Paul Jones on bass?

No one seems to have commented on that fact.

  • And Pat Mastellotto on drums!!

  • What could Genesis sound when they had stayed together???

  • Brilliant, Hackett and Bettencourt on the same stage. I think this is the teachers way to give faith to the present heroes!!!

  • guitar wars

  • floyd rose on the les paul, thats awsome

  • WOW. Buzzo and Hackett on the same stage for me is crazy!!!!!! Where do I see this whole show?

  • I am correcting myself. No Buzzo here. What a cool group of players doing this. Love this song.

  • i don't like so much.

  • gigantic

  • Who are the two young guitarists at the right and the left of Hackett

  • Paul Gilbert and Nuno bettencourt.

  • I love that song! Very eerie, very dark, great stuff!

  • I owned the CD years ago and liked it for some time, think you have to be in the right mood to hear it.

  • All the people who think that this is a waste of talent in my opinion I think it was intended by the artists to sound like this. So if you want to criticise think about not what but who you are critiquing.

  • what a load

  • truly amasing...

    truly inpspirational...

    and truly worth gw's

  • Wow! What's Hackett doing from 2:30-2:50? That's so eerie. o_o

  • Where's firth of fifth from the guitar wars dvd? It's brilliant. Upload it please.

  • It's on youtube already, just search for it.

  • love ya steve ole son

  • Ominus

  • Who wrote this song? Can anyone tell me?

  • Steve Hackett wrote it - it's the second track on the 1999 album "Darktown".

  • KICK ASS!

  • awesome song. genius steve

  • I think that Steve Hackett is awesome who did the video did a awesome job on this thank you for doing this great job on this one

  • STEVE HACKETT AND STEVE HOWE RULE.

  • Add Robert Fripp in there and you've got the complete list. All you need.

  • Absolutely. They were the lords of ethereal guitar sound.

  • Is this show on DVD?

  • yes, see guitar wars

  • his voice looks like that of rammstein's singer

  • Is it true that Steve collects vintage shovels and is extremely interested in local Rainfall figures? I heard that recently he purchase a quality Spear and Jackson shovel whereby the 'andle broke...

  • Hackett is the best of them

  • Steve is definatley the best up there...

  • What makes steve special, is his voice, has no sound effects 0_o

  • fuck yea! thats pat mastellato on drums. hackett knows how to surround himself with talent.

  • crimson

  • You fuck face

  • Indeed.. Not really and insipiration to us Axemen is the ol SH?

  • Hackett, along with Fripp and Howe, is a huge inspiration to me. The man was sweep-picking and tapping in 1971(years before EVH or Yngwie). He was definitely one of the more innovative guitarists of the 'prog' era(about '70-'77). Plus, Hackett's use of the harmonized solo was what made Brian May literally change his whole style. Not to mention Hackett's nylon-string guitar playing. Whether you like him or not, the other guys approached Hackett to do 'Guitar Wars' for a reason.

  • I like Hackett, but have to agree with you here.

  • If you look on youtube for brilliant guitarists you'll find steve!

  • Guess what, if you look in the dictionary, and look up idiot, the name Andrewkafp shows up -_-

  • As I said...oh wait, I didn't say it, your a lot more boring, beleive me...

  • Well, he's made a hell of alot of fans by being 'boring', hasn't he?

  • que preguntita papi eh

  • How the hell does Steve Hackett Talk that low???

  • vox effects!

  • hahha its a voice modulator or somethin, but it made me laugh thinkin he could do that naturally =P

  • my dad loves steve hackett Idc but I really like this song lol it's cool

  • Damn that was awesome. Was that Pat Mastelloto playing drums?

  • Big Genesis/Hackett fan, but what was he thinking with those God-awful vocals? However, the music's good as usual.

  • lol hackett can't sing, so it's an improvment!!!

  • wow,it's addictive!

  • The DVDs called Guitar Wars.

Is that Hackett making his guitar giggle like that? That's so cool. =3

  • Holy crap. The album version is great, but this is just completely epic!

    What DVD is this?

  • "Gabriel & Hackett were the genious behind Genesis" that is absolutely true. I'm a Genesis fan and the first LP without Hackett is so non-genesis. Latest works of Hackett (darktown, to watch the storms and wild orchids) are for their really hardcore fans. Go on Hackett!!

  • i fully quote... Hackett is God, and Genesis after his defection rmained a stupid pop band

  • Guess what? With the except of the Lamb, during the Gabriel/Hackett era...they were recording and performing music that Anthony Phillips wrote. Anthony Philips left Genesis after Trespass, but a lot of the music on their albums from Nursery Crime to Selling England, Phillips was the main writer of most of those songs. Hackett will tell you himself that he didn't feel as though he had really contributed until Wind and Wuthering.

  • And another fact for the anti-Collins people. Collins didn't contribute into the writing aspect of Genesis until Invisible Touch, which is the second last album. Until then, he only contributed instrumentation relative to the drum and percussive parts. So if you think Genesis is too poppy or sappy, keep in mind Rutherford and Bands wrote most of that music. And to me, songs like Home By the Sea, Domino, and Tonightx3, are songs that are very similar to earlier Genesis style music.

  • I think it's important I say this, because it seems like you claim quite some knowledge here. The only songs that were even just partially written by Anthony Phillips were The Musical Box and Fountain Of Salmacis, and even those hadn't been finished when he left. It's true that Hackett didn't contribute as much to the earlier albums, though, even After The Ordeal was going to be left off Selling England until Peter Gabriel complained.

  • Actually, funk7000 really doesn't seem to know what he is talking about. He is certainly not talking about the same Genesis that I know and love...

  • (Part 2)

As for your claim on Phil Collins's lack of contribution, he did actually completely write two songs on Duke himself (Misunderstanding and Please Don't Ask). Currenly they're the only songs I'm certain about. Invisible Touché!

  • What in the f**k are you smoking? He contributed on Selling England by the Pound, and may other songs up to - and including - those on 'Duke.' If you are going to do a commentary, you really must get your story straight!

  • You are wrong. Phillips was the main architect of Trespass, but only a few of his ideas were used on Nursery Cryme, and nothing after that (aside from "Twilight Alehouse"). Banks and Rutherford were the primary writers after Phillips left, with Gabriel and Hackett adding some input. Gabriel wrote "Willow Farm" and "Counting Out Time" by himself, and Hackett contributed with "Horizons", "After the Ordeal", "For Absent Friends", "Supernatural Anaesthetist", "Hairless Heart", and "Entangled"

  • Both Gabriel and Hackett also contributed to other songs too.

And Hackett DID NOT feel that he contributed enough to Wind & Wuthering, that's why he quit the band.

  • what is he thinking.terrible song for such a legend.

  • opinions are opinions... I think that this is a reat song and try to listen to the entire album... you will not believe to your ears

  • Your dad's quite talented too Sophie!

  • Clever uncle Sophie:)

  • ...and an awesome uncle too ;-)

  • whats the name of this dvd?

  • so you must be John Hacketts daughter sophiememe

  • You might be able to get the video from the label, Camino Records.

  • the singer is my uncle

  • It's easy to see that Gabriel & Hackett were the genious behind Genesis. I was looking forward to a "true" Genesis reunion. Although a great drummer, I can't handle Phil Collins "pop" music. Thanks for posting this creative piece of music.

  • that hackett is wicked,awesome dude!niwayz thnx

  • i love this song its so good thx for the upload

  • OMG! That's wicked! Where can you find this DVD?
