  • can anybody sing this song right

  • Haha you recorded it with like a motorola camera phone and I can still hear how white the entire song sounds.

  • @azerskater No, it wasn't a phone, it was my camera, which can also take video.

  • @dramaelfie well, either way it might be time to invest in a new one

  • Nice toaster to record with you may have just ruined the whole video

  • @CauzWeCan Wow, really? I didn't know they were going to sing it until I got there and read the program, so I didn't have anything better to record it with.

  • Nice toaster to record with

  • Tragic so many of these Baba Yetu choir videos don't have audio recording quality to do the performances justice.

  • @omganotherun Like I said, I had no idea they were going to perform this song until I got there and read the program, so all I had with me was my camera.

  • thumbs up if ur pretty sure ur choir would tear their shit up on this song

  • Not black enough tbh

  • sorry i don't like it, bad recording, bad rythem, chaning lead singers, very bad trumpet player

  • zomg so many ppl@@@@

  • This is very well performed!!! Too bad the music is louder than the choir. Using sheet music is very normal. I'm a choir singer myself and we always have it. Not that we ever look at it, but we just hold the book in our hands to make sure we all stand the same. Not one hands on the back other hands in front. I don't even put all sheet music in it.

Hope this can end your discussion around here.

Greetings all!!! and keep listening to these wonderfull songs!!!

  • Good job. But you guys should be louder than the music.

  • As a foreigner I'm kind of unfamiliar with the American education system, so can you inform me what exactly what a "varsity" school is?

  • @HiveFleetHydra

    it is the top group

varsity choir=top coir in their school

  • @HiveFleetHydra theres no such thing as a "varcity school" varcity is a level of something... usualy in sports for example, if you are on the Varcity Soccer Team, that means your on the best soccer team, Junior Varcity is right below that, and then school decide what is lower

  • @crossline7

    Varsity.

    Not "Varcity".

  • @spiffy72985 sorry? like who really cares everyone knows what I mean

  • @crossline7

If you want to be taken seriously in any kind of debate, ever, it's a good idea to usually not misspell the MAIN IDEA behind your debate. Typos are one thing, but 4 separate times is another.

    Just a future reference thing.

  • @spiffy72985 Thanks, I do look over spelling more serious things, but Youtube? not really that important when your just commenting on a video of a song.

  • That's good. (:

But my varsity choir is so much smaller. Like...a quarter of your size. I hope we sound as good as you.

  • to clear up the whole debate here, the person who composed this piece writes music as a hobby. He works at 2K Games as a video game tester. Its not too hard to connect the dots from there. I'm pretty sure he wrote the piece and it was then selected to be used after it was written, but maybe before it was actually recorded. I will be seeing him tomorrow. I only wish I could write music so well and have it as my hobby.

  • this is amazing, i have no idea how anyone can think otherwise

  • Perrysburg High School? The one in Ohio?

  • I'm in choir at our school and we're performing this song for a few Festivals, this is probably the best I've heard so far on youtube. xD

  • TAVO?

  • bad balance? i think its the recording though. i hope so

  • Okay, this arguing needs to stop NOW. It has gone way beyond immature and disrespectful at this point.

If you have any doubts as to who composed this piece and for what reason, go to Wikipedia and look up Christopher Tin's page.

  • @dramaelfie or just play civi IV and watch credits lol

  • You do realize that most professional choirs sing with their music in front of them, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @hoboangel52

Even the most professional sometimes still use music. Many choirs that don't have their music during their performances don't even choreograph anything. They just stand there awkwardly.

You're right that a good choir should have their music memorized, but the music is meant to act as a safety net. Even professionals make mistakes, so just think of the sheet music as a helmet. You don't need it, but wouldn't you much rather survive getting hit in the head with a baseball at 90mph?

  • @8AshleyBabydoll8 Professional choirs don't memorize music, they have a couple rehearsals a month to get the feel of the song and for the director to make stylistic decisions, then they perform. It's all mostly sight reading.

  • @BlueBomber2049 false. im in a professional choir and we memorize our music

  • @8AshleyBabydoll8 lol dumb ass

  • What? What you just said makes no sense at all. :/ You said it isn't in the game, then that the game had the song in it. I"m confused as to what you're trying to say.

  • the way you put it in the video discription, you made it look like the song was made for civ 4

the song was in civ 4 but the song was written long before that

  • @dramaelfie

Obviously English isn't your native language then.

He said that Baba Yetu didn't originate from the musical composers of the game, but the song WAS included in it.

  • @dramaelfie He's saying 'Lol Baba Yetu isn't from Civ 4'

  • Lmao stop contradicting yourself :P

  • @LaffingMan007

ok in the video desciption the user says

"Baba Yetu is from Civilization IV, and was written by Christopher Tin "

It makes it look like THE SONG was WRITTEN AND MADE to be in the GAME

I'm saying they put the song into the game, and it was written before the game came out

if you can't understand that then

remove yourself from the gene pool

  • That makes a hell of a lot more sense :P

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, it actually does make sense... :-/

you got my thumb up, jimjam ;)

  • Actually, you're wrong. Might want to remove yourself.

While Yin adapted an existing translation, the lyrics are not an exact copy of that translation. More importantly, the score and vocals (what really makes a song a song) were created by him.

Both he and Soren Johnson have said the song was created for the game. It even won a 2007 GANG award for "Best Original Vocal Song - Choral".

Facts are important, you might want to get your head out of your ass.

  • lol

Oh that mooCow your soooo edgy

  • Ah, sarcasm. Well, no, I don't suppose I'm terribly edgy. Still, I'm right, which in the end is a far better position to hold. It's a shame though, that at the age of 25 you're still incapable of admitting you've made a mistake (and, at least indirectly, falsly accused another of plagiarism).

Well, that's the internet for you.

  • incapable, terribly, indirectly, falsly, far better position to hold.

Words and a phrase you did not need to use, but you did to make yourself seem smarter on the internet

    lol

  • @jimjamrocks okay to comment on a old comment and to ask if you were drunk at the time.. this song was composed by Christopher Tin.. i actually met Mr. Tin at a seminar last year.. and i asked he what gave him the idea for this piece and he said it was life that gave him the inspiration for it... sorry for the side story :P

  • how dare they rape this awsome song

  • that soloist just sounds perfect for the part

    excellent :)

  • What have you been smoking lately, I've never heard of a drug that messes up the ears lmao. The soloist(s) were less than adequate. No offense but I don't even think they sang the right words. Non of the youtube videos of choirs have soloists that actually sang it right. And this is far from the better ones.

  • You were recording in probably the worst spot, acoustically speaking. It sounded wonderful in the back row of the floor.

  • hey what year was this......i got to pjhs u guys were amazing

  • It was last year's Varsity Choir and Band (2007-2008). Ahahaha...PJHS...it seems like I was there such a long time ago (I'm almost done with my sophomore year of college now). ;)

  • please! help-me

Hi, for a chance you would know or tell me if there is a playback, karaoke or original of this song "Baba Yetu"?

  • Few songs in the world move me as this one does. You guys did a terrifc job! Congratulations!

  • Can you not post ignorant asshole comments on every video of this song done by americans. Jesus, i dont see any british choirs singing this song on youtube so you can shut the hell up, i bet even if a british choir did this song they wouldnt do any better.

  • i think i'll upload a swedish version just to prove that only the americans are getting this wrong ;)

  • Yes, because if anyone has more soul than the British, it's the Swedes.

  • My only comment about the volume of the orchestra, is that my school does a lot of vocal pieces with orchestra, and as a member of both, the orchestra and the chorus, it's usually a whole lot easier for the chorus to be louder, especially one of this size. But who knows, maybe it was where you were seated, or the chorus couldn't have been any louder.

  • One of the better videos.

  • hahaha my helele's are fab!!

  • No they're not.

    XD Kidding! They were fantastic!!!

  • I think we all loved this song, and thank you for video tapping it! It was better than I thought it was going to be so great job guys!!

  • np!!! You have no idea how excited I was to hear you guys sing it!!!
