Jim Morrison is playing piano on this song, too. I'm pretty sure this is the only time he's played any instruments on an album (besides vocals, of course).
From what I read, the original version of this song was recorded by Jim and some random musicians he grabbed off of the streets of Paris. Later, after his death, the rest of the band got the recordings and remixed it.
One day I'll be driving down the streets of Los Angeles in a red Dodge Challenger, late at night. I'll be listening to this song and... everything will be fine.
@LizMorrison69 From what I know he recorded his vocals with piano before he went off to Paris and the band recorded their part after he died. They left his piano in there but I guess it wasn't sufficient for a full track's keyboard especially once they had Ray...but anyone reading this correct me if it's not so

thankyou. this mans voice haunts me and this tune plays in my head on and on.. i thought i had dreamed this. i was a pothead in hight school on a once in a lifetime changing acid trip last time i heard this tune. thankyou for letting me hear it again.
The Doors Producer (Rothchild) didn't like the music the Doors were working on for L.A. Woman, That's why he left the sessions and they produced it with Botnick. This track (Orange County Suite) - music added by the surviving doors sometime in the 90's to Morrison's vocal.
L.A WOMEN is the best album, la women is when the door reunited. there producer didnt help them with this one, he told them they had to do it on there own. so what did they do after that? they started writing this album.
I really wish that they had put this on their album back iin 1971. But, I'm glad that at least it's been released for all of us to hear. And pay no attention to those who malign this great band. It's like (not exactly, but metaphorically) like trying to explain the concept of God to someone who refuses to believe, no matter what. It's just a shame that a lot of people don't appreciate this band.
In case no one knows the background on this song-Jim had recorded it alone at the piano;that's him playing the basic chords that open it and run throughout. The remaining Doors did a "Free As A Bird" on it by adding their instruments to what Jim had already done.Originally appeared on The Doors box set.

Some people are just so ignorant. Why can't people understand that this music is way ahead of its time. Bands today are still trying to reproduce this sound and cannot even come close to it. I listen to rap and hip hop for the majority of my music... but I still find myself coming back and listening to the late and great Jim Morrison and the doors.....Great music is GREAT MUSIC...........END IT Haters..

mabye trash is the only thing that really matters. Go to your "drug-free" church and annoy them with your irrational bullshit. Sunday Trucker, Christian Motherfucker.
@tutmosis1907 actually this was probably made under the influence of alcohol since this was the time jims drinking problem was at its worst and what if it was under the influence of a drug you obviously dont realize when the doors of perception are cleansed everything will appear to man as infinite.
@tutmosis1907 One who knows nothing can be expected to understand nothing.
i'm all for expression of opinion, but it should stay as just that.
you wanna say you prefer your rock over this, that's fine,
but why take all the credibility out of your argument by slandering our beliefs?
why go to the trouble of pissing a community off, when you could be content in knowing there is stuff influenced by drug use, counter balancing stuff written while sober and straight edge?
it's not included in L.A Woman... This song was recorded in Paris by Jim, dedicated to Pamela with American's Street Musicians who played in exchange for alcohol, in a Studio near from his home.... after this Orange County came the last recording from Jim.......Mojo&theSmoothiers 2 weeks before he died!!
@narvaezcesar Bullshit. This was recorded in the US before Jim ever left to Paris. Jim's recording with amateur musicians in Paris was a load of crap. Yes it happened but it was complete trash.
Lost Paris Tapes- Jim recorded this alone with piano. After his death- the orig piano part was removed and the rest of the Doors added the instruments you now hear.
This is from Paris? From what I read from Manzarek, Jim's Paris recordings were "drunken gibberish." This isn't gibberish but rather melancholic. Morrison's voice doesn't sound bad considering his asthma began to flare up around that time (along with all of the hard living).
Nobody has ever been able to duplicate the sound of Jim and the Doors. Thats why they are so unique and one of the greatest if not the greatest rock band ever. Unbeleivable music. Ageless and timeless. Thanks for putting up the vid
you can actually hear the despair in Jims voice. This is a rare recording. Thank you for sharing this. Im sure theres a lot of this material and I am thankful for anything that is posted in regards to Jim. Thank you
@loveybells77 there is no despair in his voice, he was rich he had no reason to be depressed, he could have lived in a tent in the woods if he liked indians so much as people think, he chose to get famous and then couldnt handle it
@KafroThrasher I didnt say i think money brings happiness, i was making a point that because jim was a drug user, it made him manic and crazy he wanted to live life on the edge, who knows why he was depressed, but to say that money doesnt bring happiness is not true, he need to eat to stay fit, it doesnt make someone greedy if they want to make money to buy food,
@snowboard3rking i know happiness, im 21 and im happy, but ive struggled with manic depression insomnia, hospitals, .. ive wanted to die, and i can look at that and think how foolish, i love life, i am a musician, and singer,
and you're still there and we're still around..." what it's important is the time we shared and spent together.....if we did the balance and you conclude that the best times are more than the bad ones...so it was worth everything........
This is not "Grade A" Jim Morrison material. It needs to be cut down, made melodic, maybe into two 3 minute songs. If Jim had lived, this presumably might have appeared on a Doors album in 1972 or 1973, but it's nowhere near yet up to the quality of anything on the
A treasure to bring back...parts of this song were used in an old NBC TV series from 1978-79, "Lifeline", and the episode was based on Dr. Joan Hodgman, a pediatric physician. It did not include Morrison's vocals, but a lot of Robbie Krieger's guitar solos. A very sad song based on the relationship of Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson. Released September 17, 1970. Awesome.
Jim Morrison is playing piano on this song, too. I'm pretty sure this is the only time he's played any instruments on an album (besides vocals, of course).

@loveybells77 there is no despair in his voice, he was rich he had no reason to be depressed, he could have lived in a tent in the woods if he liked indians so much as people think, he chose to get famous and then couldnt handle it

@witchcraftlord lol u think money brings happiness ?? I don't think so...
KafroThrasher 1 year ago
@KafroThrasher I didnt say i think money brings happiness, i was making a point that because jim was a drug user, it made him manic and crazy he wanted to live life on the edge, who knows why he was depressed, but to say that money doesnt bring happiness is not true, he need to eat to stay fit, it doesnt make someone greedy if they want to make money to buy food,
witchcraftlord 1 year ago
@witchcraftlord my point just was that no matter how wealthy you are you may be desperate as well

..." we work out on the farm,
we climb out to the mountains
and everything's fine, and I'm still here
and you're still there and we're still around..." what it's important is the time we shared and spent together.....if we did the balance and you conclude that the best times are more than the bad ones...so it was worth everything........

I hope Pamela courson heard this beautiful suite prior to her death....... The love and pain and regret is so palpable

This song is so soothing and melodic, paired with meaningful lyrics, much like the effect Riders has on you.

Beautiful song. Jim Morrison is a legend.

This is not "Grade A" Jim Morrison material. It needs to be cut down, made melodic, maybe into two 3 minute songs. If Jim had lived, this presumably might have appeared on a Doors album in 1972 or 1973, but it's nowhere near yet up to the quality of anything on the
L.A. Woman album.

@wheelinthesky300 maybe it was supposed to be simple and sad not meodic and trippy
KafroThrasher 1 year ago
@KafroThrasher In the form as Jim left it,
it would not have gotten any radio time,
and is really not in the form of songs on previous Doors albums.
I'm guessing here, but had Jim lived,
and if it ever saw the light of day,
it would have gone thru several revisions.

@wheelinthesky300 Who cares about radio time anyway ?
KafroThrasher 1 year ago
the album is actually
The Lost Paris Tapes (Bootleg)
it was a secret tape that after jim's death was found in his belongings but was not officially published to the public!

it's just like Micheal Jackson owned half of The Beatles and still had half of there albums, but i may be wrong.
snowboard3rking 2 years ago
Probably understood, but just had to say its not actually on the LA Woman album, just a bonus track.
Thanks for the song

A treasure to bring back...parts of this song were used in an old NBC TV series from 1978-79, "Lifeline", and the episode was based on Dr. Joan Hodgman, a pediatric physician. It did not include Morrison's vocals, but a lot of Robbie Krieger's guitar solos. A very sad song based on the relationship of Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson. Released September 17, 1970. Awesome.
