Every time I hear this song, I can't help but feel disturbed for some reason. The rumor is that Trey wrote it about his heroin addiction. If that's the truth, this song expresses the disorientation and feelings of helplessness that accompanies it.
@dharmaseed Lyrically that makes sense but that's impossible didn't this song start showing up in shows in '95 or around there? Trey didn't even get anywhere near the White Lady till 98
I heard a lot of people got arrested by the Nazi pigs in Hamton. That's fucking lame. If I wish Phish I wouldn't come back to Hampton unless the cops learn how to chill the fuck out instead of raiding Phish fans.
Great Split Open, i saw both shows at Alpine and was dissappointed not to hear this. Sat. rocked they where a little off on Sun. Fathers day. The trick with 5 neck guitar was not great. Trey only used 1 of the necks that i saw. Someone please tell me differently, i dont like gimmicks from an all natural band!
this was my first phish concert in cali, and i have my medi card... i must say, the lawn here is MUCH differeent than any lawn ive been to... the MMJ is just everywehre here : ) spread the love : )
Weighing in on the jam debate... I'm with prjctcivilian and Imlookingthru- I want that 1993/1994 style back- in general, but especially on this tune. Check out Old Orchard Beach Maine summer 1993 version. I was there and it blew my mind. Melt is one of those jams that when they "figured it out" in 93 (Trey's words) - it was truly revolutionary. I loved how they were able to lose you by not making that one odd measure obvious then building it up and giving it to you full force w Trey on high note
July 3rd, 1993, The Ballpark, Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Awesome show. Fireworks during Antelope climax. That was their first real tour doing big big venues as the headlining act. It was like they were losing their virginity - it will never quite be the same again.
Yer buggin, mister. Obviously you have never seen Phish circa 1993, because that is exactly where this dark jam comes from. The boys bent time and space with this one.
I agree. To each there own, but this jam had no story, no concept, no idea. Lots of cool sounds and lights, but it was a lost cause as soon as Trey entered. A little heavy on the strobe action too, though im not really complaining. But Chris loves to say how he's all about simplicity and they blasts you with something like this.. Amazing none the less..
And the 1 dislike has to be spoken about.. Really..!!!!!!!! Lovely

Fair enough, good point. I'm all about just going with the flow. Don't know why it had to be -1 though, i think it was a fair point.

I agree with Zombyw00f.
I thought the jam got nice and evil...as it should. Summer 93 were some scary ass shows.....made me want to pee myself at times.
Welldone boys.....good to have you back.

Much respect Zomby, but what 1993 Melts are you talking about? The Melts from 1993 are pure shred rippage, nothing like this Trey wankfest.

The HD button is not showing up on this Melt video, though it has worked for all of your other Hampton videos. Can you check into?
By the way, I've subscribed to you because all of the other Hampton videos are such amazing quality, thanks a ton!
Hampton was a blast..... Phish is BACK!!
