Every time I hear this song, I can't help but feel disturbed for some reason. The rumor is that Trey wrote it about his heroin addiction. If that's the truth, this song expresses the disorientation and feelings of helplessness that accompanies it.

Great Split Open, i saw both shows at Alpine and was dissappointed not to hear this. Sat. rocked they where a little off on Sun. Fathers day. The trick with 5 neck guitar was not great. Trey only used 1 of the necks that i saw. Someone please tell me differently, i dont like gimmicks from an all natural band!

Weighing in on the jam debate... I'm with prjctcivilian and Imlookingthru- I want that 1993/1994 style back- in general, but especially on this tune. Check out Old Orchard Beach Maine summer 1993 version. I was there and it blew my mind. Melt is one of those jams that when they "figured it out" in 93 (Trey's words) - it was truly revolutionary. I loved how they were able to lose you by not making that one odd measure obvious then building it up and giving it to you full force w Trey on high note

July 3rd, 1993, The Ballpark, Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Awesome show. Fireworks during Antelope climax. That was their first real tour doing big big venues as the headlining act. It was like they were losing their virginity - it will never quite be the same again.

I agree. To each there own, but this jam had no story, no concept, no idea. Lots of cool sounds and lights, but it was a lost cause as soon as Trey entered. A little heavy on the strobe action too, though im not really complaining. But Chris loves to say how he's all about simplicity and they blasts you with something like this.. Amazing none the less..
