i love this show. i wish it never got cancelled. it was just such a funny clever 90s cartoon that could compete with the Simpsons i suppose. but still, i think this show was just too good for gettin cancelled. i'm so glad that its atleast on here along with Duckman and Eek the cat. all great cartoons from my childhood.
It's no little-known hush-hush secret that the inspiration for the Duke Phillips is Ted Turner. This episode is a sly little dig at Turner's "brilliant innovation" at putting some our most timeless classics in Technicolor--It's A Wonderful Life, Casablanca, Ragin Bull, Citizen Kane, even The Wizard of Oz.
Why didn't he offer to paint eyebrows on the Mona Lisa? Put a new nose on the Sphinx? Or wield the crack in the Liberty Bell?
when I was little, I barely knew my dad, but he did look a lot like this cartoon character so I use to imagine he would turn into a cartoon and have to be on TV and thats why he wasnt around.
Anything Matt Groening produces is pure gold. First there was The Simpsons, then The Critic, then Futurama... 3 of my favourite shows. I totally miss The Critic, and Futurama isn't on much anymore.
haha and them bits with Satan and Hitler were hillarious.
Perhaps he meant to say James L. Brooks? Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't be rude about it, but isn't James L. Brooks in the credits of each episode?
I remember when he was on The Simpsons, and Patty and Selma were asking him which celebrities were gay, and bart whispers to him to tell them Magiver was gay, and the next scene is him hanging by his underwear from the evestrough on the house LOL
and that ice skating scene, that's a real place in NY city. I've never been there, but I know it exists.
Matt Groening didn't work on The Critic, but James L. Brooks produced it with Gracie Films. It can be a little confusing cause Jay Sherman appeared on The Simpsons as a cameo, but Matt Groening didn't take any credit for the episode he was in cause he didn't like the idea of doing a crossover episode.
Oops, I have to fix my mistake. Matt Groening didn't create this show, it was Al Jean and Mike Reiss, who were co-creators of The Simpsons. God, I have no life.
I have to agree with you? Futurama is like a spoilt cartoon with high tech images but this was effort! This is what you get with little money & more heart!
