The first two rounds you can see Walcott thinking "Why are guys having such a hard time beating this amateur". Round 3 he got his answer, and didn't like it.
Rocky is one of my all time favorites slow footwork, hand speed and movement but he had amazing stamina, toughness, a granite chin and a devastating right hand.
what more can you ask of a man except to defeat the man in front of him and rocky did it 49 times! chin, heart, courage and a powerful punch will take you a long way.
@chucknchar You missed the most important part - stamina. Marciano was the best conditioned heavyweight - ever. On top of that, he had a big punch. That's kind of unusual.
Round 3 is when Walcott begins to realize what he's in with - someone that is a lot better than he looked in films.
The first two you could see how cocky Walcott was, and how confident he could just get him out of there. Round 3 he got cocky when Rocky hit him and tried to retaliate, and took a worse beating and as awkward as Rocky was, he was for real and wasn't going to be so easy.
@chrismck100 I only said that no one one thenique isn't better than other. You can't say you will win a fight if you have certain moves and technique. everything counts.
@bakdwn2no1 i suggest you to see the movies"super fight"...ali knocked out at 13th round...rocky marciano the one and only true king in history of box!!!!!!
@Pain18Killer That is ridiculous, it was a computer simulation. Using the "superfight" as evidence to who would win a real fight holds absolutely no more credibility than a sim of two fighters in an xbox game...that is to say practically none

Rocky was the best heavyweight of all time?? What are u smoking? He was a great fighter, but there were many heavyweights that would have handled him easily. Louis in his prime certainly would have destroyed him. I think Tunney beats him. Dempsey and Jack Johnson too. Most of all of the modern heavyweights (1960's forward) were simply too big for him so I don't think that's a fair comparison. The only quality opposition Marciano faced were either past their prime or blown up light heavyweights.
Carlos Monzon was the best middle-weight boxer of all time and Roberto Duran was the best light-weight boxer of all time. Rocky Marciano was the best heavy-weight boxer of all time. Mike Tyson says that Monzon would have defeated Sugar Ray Robinson.
It's crazy but Rocky.....much like the movie version....was slow of foot....awkward looking....could walk through any punch and if knocked down he got up. Then, Rocky would land that big right and follow it up with a deadly left and out goes whatever Joe Palooka is in front of him. That is why Marciano goes down undefeated and 49-0.
The more you hit him the less you are safe.... he gets stronger and stronger... he's never in a real danger... that's why nobody is easily going to win with him.
Not at these days for sure cause after Tyson's prime there haven't been so great heavyweight fighters. But its hard to say about these top 10 of all time anyone could have beaten another.
ya but then again, now days there is different training methods, and more technicle skills in boxing i am sure he would have adjusted, its hard to compare
The skill part is worse and worse. You have less and less good fighters becoming trainers.
Im not saying in those days, good fighters became trainers. But most trainers had fought before and were taught solid skills, even if the trainer lacked ability. He at least had a sound understanding.
I use to think marciano was a bum. But i have noticed subtle little things. I think he couldve held his own against most.

@TA152H01 Walcott said after the fight that Rocky was the best fighter he ever fought. He said he was happy to lose the title to such a gentleman!

Their styles and "bag of tricks" are so similar they look like they are fighting their mirror images...

What about Evander Holyfield? He had a heart of a lion! Remember Tyson's "Prime" ended at 23. Rocky Marciano got started at 30!

Pound for pound greatest until about the 70's I'd say.

he's tougher then ali was, but not as smart of a fighter though

Ali was a better pure boxer, my post now sucks to me, since clearly sugar ray robinson was better pound for pound.
Rocky best pound for pound heavyweight before 1970.
