i took off from the exact same runway but in an a340-600 and i remember it was configured to flaps 1, i never forget this things xD

that airport is great because it has it balconys upstairs and when you land, while you exit you always get a gift, maybe material, maybe a very gentle personal worker from the airport says welcome, i had a lot of fun :D

What's the cause of the long line up and wait?? I know for one instance at 5:05 there's an aircraft crossing the runway. But that's a full 2 minutes before takeoff and I couldn't see anything even though with high def.

Dom what are Packs one and Two?

@bill330 The packs are what we call the air conditioning. The airconditioning in jet aircraft is fed by bleed air from the engines, so if they are disengaged, more power from the engines is available for actual thrust production, hence giving the aircraft some more ease taking off.

This is especially important in airports with short runways when the aircraft is near maximum takeoff weight and at hot & hight airports (such as JNB), where the takeoff run is rather long anyway.

@naisi It's also common to use a flex take off configuration on long runways based on the outside temp, this saves fuel and is entered into the FMC prior to take off. Did ATC nod off as they waited an eternity to roll out? Also what's with that vibration Dom, need to get quality control in here, standards can't slip.

Afterall, it wouldnt make sence to invest in Boeing NOW after we have sucessfully trimmed our fleet to airbus and its philosophy : One Fleet, one simulator, ten ratings :)
