@XxSiiCkXKiilZxX please refrain from the negativity there bud, we all know Richard Petty was the King but this kid who stated his opinion is a young boy who doesn't deserve to be called stupid, hopefully karma hasn't treated you yet and you can apologize nicely.
@XxSiiCkXKiilZxX No it was my son using my account you ignorant hick. If your going to hang out in your trailer all day and tell someone their opinion is stupid learn how to spell and write for that matter. Nascar is what it is, Petty is the King but Jeff Gordon has surpassed his many of his records. Just be aware that others have opinions too and if you are looking to make friends, which "obv" you're not, it's easier to attract flies with honey...
And im not trying to insult anyones driver or anything, Just saying that as far as pure, talented drivers go, Pearson may have been the best. For that matter, Tim Richmond in a second class car was still a very scary Tim Richmond. If your talking great on talent behind the wheel, he deserves to be in the conversation.
All i gotta say is that i dont think Pearson gets quite the respect he should. He should always be no 3 at least, on any list of great drivers. Have you ever seen pictures or videos of him at Darlington? Dude BROKE the track too tough to tame. Petty saying time and again that he always felt better about his chances when Pearson wasnt there is all the praise you need i think.
DICK TRICKLE HAS MORE WINS THEN ALL OF THEM LOOK IT UP.ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AT AGE 40 LOL. I agree with dpearson as #2, #1 is jimmy johnson because it is way harder now. Petty wasnt better then de #3 either and never will be not even close. TWO best guys were killed. Alan RIP. Davey RIP.
@stinngs120 good question. i guess its all opinions. huh. you got me thinking....
Cars where harder to drive then and faster with less down-force. Cars had no flaps, no air filtration systems, no fancy trailers, or tools, less sponsors less money. So i guess no it is not harder now.
O plus the race was not filled with whinny little crybaby's now, they were men and RACED LIKE MEN.
@myVRaceLog Oh Petty was MUCH better than de #3. While DE had talent, he did little to show for it as half the time he drove like a little girl: running into the back of other drivers. How sad so many of you call him "intimidator" cuz he drove like a girl. Petty did not drive like a little girl. Heck you could put a monkey with boxing gloves on behind the wheel & get the same results the #3 got - LOL funny and true! I did like your Dick Trickle comment though - lol.
I agree with most of this list... Earnhardt should have been second in my opinion... JJ is about right because his championships are VERY different from the ones that were won in the past.
How come Dale Jr & Kyle Busch arent in the top 10???? Kyle's got 99 NASCAR Wins after that Kentucky Win, and Juniors talent at restrictor plate tracks???????????
@NASCAR2011Fan Please tell me your joking. Dale jr is not even near good enough to be top 10. Hes not even top 50. Sure he used to be pretty good at restrictor plate tracks but come on he hasn't won a race in 3 years now and hasn't won at Daytona since his 500 win or Talladega since 2006. Besides just because your good at like 2 tracks doesn't make you one of the best.
Mark Martin not in the top 10? He is one of the best veteran drivers out there who deserves a championship! and Kyle Busch in the honorable mentioned? He's the last person I would put as the best driver! He's a disgrace to NASCAR.
@cmndrkool321 Martin should probably be in there. As far a Busch, I can't stand him either but he is one of the best drivers out there now and luckily seems to be maturing but has a ways to go.
@fishkicker84 yes petty won when most drivers race limited seasons..earnhardt won during the 80's when the modern era true began..Petty enterprise=boston celtics won alot in the early years when racing was young but in the modern era has very very little to show for..on the other hand dale basically built RCR into what it is today and was doing it when modern technology became the most important element in the sport !
@Xtremesn3per yes...stewart did more i will say its unfair because dale jr's equipment fell off after 2004.. but when D.E.I was still a top tier team they where pretty close but stewart won the title in 02 and 05
@tryithere michael to be fair was just an average driver..he wasnt DW..but on the other hand he never had great equipment..it was until 2001 almost 15-20 years into his career he had a above average ride !
@fatpatlives1998 People tend to forget that it's not just the driver but the car and pit crew as well. A better driver can overcome a lesser level of the others but only so much plus there is some luck involved..
Kyle Busch, love him or hate him,is one of the best in the world. You dont get a track record like his if you suck. Also junior shouldnt even have been on the didnt make it list. He is just an avergae driver who has a famous last name.

i'm pretty sure ni the modern era of nascar Petty didnt win all 200 race and 7 championships, most of his wins happened before the rules became enforced, top 5 should be Dale sr Bobby Allison silverfox cale and jeff gordon
Give me a break. So you think that Pearson, Yalborough, Allison,Johnson, Waltrip, Earnhardt, and everyone else that Petty raced against just handed him 200 wins on a silver platter? He was racing against some of the greatest ever all at once, and he still pulled off 200 wins, 7 championships and 7 Daytona 500's. Not to mention that he won 171 races in 14 years(btwn '62 + '75), that's an AVERAGE of over 12 wins a season. That doesn't just happen. He earned #1 and he is the King.
@ss0rca David Pearson was the best driver. Every year he ran for the championship he won it. He could've swept the 70s if he wanted. His win, top 5, top 10 percentage is outstanding, and well-roundedness on racetracks. Petty's dominance was unmatched at his peak, but as a driver he lacked longevity. Earnhardt probably would've been good in his mid 50s and won the 8th championship had he lived past 2001. You could argue over who's the best, the bottom line is they're all legends.

@ewright407 Jimmie Johnson is arguably becoming one of the best ever. Tony stewart is one of the best around and so is Bill Elliot. Really you cant make a top ten list of drivers because there were so many great ones.
I think its a bit unfair to compare drivers from diferent times. I mean, Nascar today has nothing to do with Nascar at Petty´s time. Rules, racecars even tracks are much different. Its impossible to know if a driver like Jimmy Johnson would be able to win back on the early 90´s like he does now or if Petty would still be so great these days.
YOU MAINSTREAM ASS!! NO WAY PEARSON IS ABOVE EARNHARDT! 10. BIll Elliott 9. Tony Stewart 8. rusty wallace 7. bobby allison 6.darrell waltrip 5. cale yarborough 4.Jeff gordon 3.david pearson 2.Richard petty 1.Dale Earnhardt
You really should have titled this, "My subjective choice for the top ten NASCAR drivers". Rusty Wallace has no business being mentioned. And, for pure DRIVING tallent, Kyle Bush is going to be very hard to beat.
My all time favorite driver is the 1960 NASCAR Champion, Rex White. 28 wins in the GN division, 12 in the short track division, 22 wins in convertables, and 35 wins in the sportsman series. Thats 97 total NASCAR wins. He also did this with with Chevrolets when they were the underdogs
Richard Petty won all those races when factories backed drivers! in todays day it wouldn't happen .Kyle busch will most likely will have the record for most wins but he will have to do it in 3 series Jimmy Johnson is a 5x champ only due to the 10 race shootout how many championship would he have had but the old points system ? I have no problem awarding xtra points for wins but to reset the point system totally like this year Kevin Harvick GOT FUCKED !!!!!
@18kyleb Im a junior fan and I must agree with you it is time to quit wishing he was Sr. and move on ! this year was a prefect indacator of what is to come , next year he has a new crew chief but it isn't going to matter
How can you even say with a straight face that Jimmie shouldn't be on the list? 4 straight championships and he's only been in NASCAR for 8 years... and a contender every single year. You don't have to like the guy to realize how dominate he is in a sport that is much more competitive than when Petty and Earnhardt won their championships.
Richard Petty doesn't deserve to be #1.He cheated 24/7. Jimmie Johnson can't cheat because they're extremely serious now. And not only that, he is a two time runner up to the championship in 2003 and 2004 too!
Dale Earnhardt Jr shouldn't even be in this video. you cannot say he is as good as guys liek Ernie Irvin, Davey Allison or Junior Johnson. it be tough putting Jimmie Johnson in this list let alone Junior. wtf. though i liek teh rest of the video. i was a little surprsied not to see Matt Kenseth in honorable mentions being one of the most consistant drivers in history, plus a championship and Daytona 500.
@SaintBEEP -- I agree. Matt Kenseth has to be the quietest Cup champion ever. He's consistent, but he is a pretty boring guy. And because of that lack of charisma, he's not as popular as guys like Dale Jr..(You also falied to mention that Kenseth won Rookie of the Year over Dale Jr.) Dale Jr. is quite possibly the most overrated driver in NASCAR history...And I like the guy. But, really, what has he done with the best team in motorsports(Hendrick)? He had a fuel mileage win at Michigan in '08
To those who think Pearson had a "tougher" time winning races because he was racing Petty: I think you're overlooking that back then it was RARE that you had more than 5 cars left on the lead lap. Most races these days have the TOP 20 on the lead lap. The cars became much more even from the 80's on. Also, a lot more races were run in the 60's/Early 70's(50-60 races per year). Many were short . Earnhardt, Gordon and even Johnson(50 wins) deserve to be higher. Wallace/Newman fan, BTW, so no bias
lol :47. hell yea 1:00, didnt mention that he won as an owner driver and came from winning an irl championship to be in nascar. not many can win in irl and nascar
good list I disagree with some of the ranking order. I think rusty wallace does not belong in top 10. I think jeff gordon should rank 3rd. he won more daytona 500's than Sr and has more wins then Sr in a much tougher nascar circuit. Jeff won more races than sr in 250 less starts. Lets not forget the chase format has screwed Gordon out of the 2004 and 2007 titles. I think driver 48# when its all said and done he will have to move into the top 5.
Not having Bobby Allison in there is a travesty. He's third on the all time list for the most wins... has three Daytona 500's... and is the oldest driver to ever win the Daytona 500... one of only a handfull of drivers to win past the page of 50...
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with JJ being in there. Lets make this clear, I do not dislike Jimmie Johnson. But there is no way in hell you can compare is championships with the old guys titles. For one thing, they won a full season title, not a ten race sprint. I'm sorry but I just don't see how you can call yourself a champ, when you can get the point lead, when the "Chase" starts, and you were 4th in points! It really doesn't take much to win it. You can be mediocre for 26 races and win!
@rebelracing88 that's true i also disagree with JJ being in there, however he deserved the 2006 title,he was in the lead for like the first 26 races and kept going.
@NASCARWWEclubpenguin True, he was in the lead for awhile, but he faltered towards the end of the season. Under the old system Matt Kenseth would've won the 2006 championship. In fact had Matt Kenseth not run out of gas and finished 10th at Dover, during the Chase, he would've won it anyway, but that was their screw up. With JJ getting wrecked twice in the last 10 races of 2006, he would've been done as far as the points go if it weren't for the Chase. JJ's a good driver, just overrated.
Thats true but look at how much closer the competition is now today as opposed to twenty years or more ago when drivers were lapping the field. Im not a big Jimmie fan at all, and am not knocking Petty or Pearson but do you think they could have won 200 or 100 plus races with the competition today? Highly doubtful
Agreed, I think it would be more fair to say JJ is the greatest driver of the Chase Era, but not all time. The problem with the Sprint cup now is the fact that it has been creating rules that have rewarded the drivers who are doing bad (Or not as good) and punishing the drivers who are doing good. I suppose it makes out for better excitment, but just doesn't seem all that right to me. I think he is atleast in the top 20, I mean before the chase he was always a contender.
@Friedchicken80 Dude don't even start with me. You're just another johnny come lately JJ fan. I never said he wasn't a great driver, the guy's got 53 wins. But Chase championships do not even compare to the old system. When a driver can qualify for "playoff" for the title and not have even won a race or led a lap, then the it's a BS setup. The Chase was brought in to increase the competition in the points championship. Well when one guy wins 5 out of 7 that's a failure in my book.
@rebelracing88 I am a big nascar and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan since 1994 (check my youtube profile and videos) and I can tell you that Jimmie Johnson is a great driver. But he hasn't charisma and we don't enjoy seeing him racing because he never takes risks. We need another old school driver (if they still exist).
@Friedchicken80 Ok well I stand corrected, you're not a johnny come lately and for that I apologize. I went to my first race in 1993, I was a big Rusty Wallace fan. I wouldn't say it's lack of charisma though. I'm not a JJ fan now but I used to be. When he first came up as rookie I thought he was a great driver. But when the 48 team kept getting busted for cheating I started to dislike them. I feel they're overrated because of their Chase domination. He'd still be a 2 time champ the old way too.
@rebelracing88 I agree totally with you ! Harvick got screwed this year why don't they split the 48 team mates like the do with the rest of the Hendrick teams and I love all the band wagon ppl wearing the 48 stuff hell half of the don't know any driver before johnson let along his busch series career wasn't all too impressive
Petty and Pearson ran 60+ races per year, and had little competition. they were always fastest, only people that put big $ into their cars, and heck, with nascar back in the 50's-early 80's they probably cheated big time since the tech inspection was minimal at best.
Yeah but Pearson won 3 championships without even running a whole season one time. Besides back in those days you didn't have all this aero BS, you actually had to drive the damn car if you wanted to win.
Love the video my list: 10 Cale Yarbrough 9 Rusty Wallace 8 Tony Stewart 7 Bill Elliott 6 Jimmie Johnson 5 Darrel Waltrip 4 David Pearson 3 Jeff Gordon 2 Dale Earnhardt Sr 1 Richard Petty
Bill Elliot & his T-Bird was what got me into NASCAR as a kid. He's the greatest in my eyes.

I have no problem awarding xtra points for wins but to reset the point system totally like this year Kevin Harvick GOT FUCKED !!!!!

Great drivers that didn't make the cut? Can we finally go ahead and take Junior off that list and add him to the top ten most overrated drivers?!
18kyleb 1 year ago
@18kyleb Im a junior fan and I must agree with you it is time to quit wishing he was Sr. and move on ! this year was a prefect indacator of what is to come , next year he has a new crew chief but it isn't going to matter

Good list. But I still think Mark Martin should be there. And that Dale Earnhardt should be behind Petty.
philrox427 1 year ago
How can you even say with a straight face that Jimmie shouldn't be on the list? 4 straight championships and he's only been in NASCAR for 8 years... and a contender every single year. You don't have to like the guy to realize how dominate he is in a sport that is much more competitive than when Petty and Earnhardt won their championships.
RobertHelfinstine 1 year ago
Richard Petty doesn't deserve to be #1.He cheated 24/7. Jimmie Johnson can't cheat because they're extremely serious now. And not only that, he is a two time runner up to the championship in 2003 and 2004 too!

1 Dale E. 2 Richard P. 3 Jimmie Johnson 4 Jeff G. 5 Darrell W.

SaintBEEP 1 year ago
@SaintBEEP -- I agree. Matt Kenseth has to be the quietest Cup champion ever. He's consistent, but he is a pretty boring guy. And because of that lack of charisma, he's not as popular as guys like Dale Jr..(You also falied to mention that Kenseth won Rookie of the Year over Dale Jr.) Dale Jr. is quite possibly the most overrated driver in NASCAR history...And I like the guy. But, really, what has he done with the best team in motorsports(Hendrick)? He had a fuel mileage win at Michigan in '08
accursedarachnid 1 year ago
@accursedarachnid Jr is actually pretty quiet as well. but he's never left alone because of how popular he is
SaintBEEP 1 year ago
To those who think Pearson had a "tougher" time winning races because he was racing Petty: I think you're overlooking that back then it was RARE that you had more than 5 cars left on the lead lap. Most races these days have the TOP 20 on the lead lap. The cars became much more even from the 80's on. Also, a lot more races were run in the 60's/Early 70's(50-60 races per year). Many were short . Earnhardt, Gordon and even Johnson(50 wins) deserve to be higher. Wallace/Newman fan, BTW, so no bias

lol :47. hell yea 1:00, didnt mention that he won as an owner driver and came from winning an irl championship to be in nascar. not many can win in irl and nascar

dale sr should at least be 2
jellybean545 1 year ago
good list I disagree with some of the ranking order.

You can be mediocre for 26 races and win!
rebelracing88 2 years ago 2
@rebelracing88 that's true i also disagree with JJ being in there, however he deserved the 2006 title,he was in the lead for like the first 26 races and kept going.
NASCARWWEclubpenguin 1 year ago
@NASCARWWEclubpenguin True, he was in the lead for awhile, but he faltered towards the end of the season. Under the old system Matt Kenseth would've won the 2006 championship. In fact had Matt Kenseth not run out of gas and finished 10th at Dover, during the Chase, he would've won it anyway, but that was their screw up. With JJ getting wrecked twice in the last 10 races of 2006, he would've been done as far as the points go if it weren't for the Chase. JJ's a good driver, just overrated.
rebelracing88 1 year ago
Thats true but look at how much closer the competition is now today as opposed to twenty years or more ago when drivers were lapping the field. Im not a big Jimmie fan at all, and am not knocking Petty or Pearson but do you think they could have won 200 or 100 plus races with the competition today? Highly doubtful
nkfaithful 1 year ago
@rebelracing88
Kartkid024 1 year ago
So I suppose I'd put him with Mark Martin, Neither were champions, but both were always contenders.
Kartkid024 1 year ago
@rebelracing88 Oh yeah, that's why he has 5 consecutive championships, because he isn't a great driver.
Friedchicken80 1 year ago
@Friedchicken80 Dude don't even start with me. You're just another johnny come lately JJ fan. I never said he wasn't a great driver, the guy's got 53 wins. But Chase championships do not even compare to the old system. When a driver can qualify for "playoff" for the title and not have even won a race or led a lap, then the it's a BS setup. The Chase was brought in to increase the competition in the points championship. Well when one guy wins 5 out of 7 that's a failure in my book.
rebelracing88 1 year ago
@rebelracing88 I am a big nascar and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan since 1994 (check my youtube profile and videos) and I can tell you that Jimmie Johnson is a great driver. But he hasn't charisma and we don't enjoy seeing him racing because he never takes risks. We need another old school driver (if they still exist).
Friedchicken80 1 year ago
@Friedchicken80 Ok well I stand corrected, you're not a johnny come lately and for that I apologize. I went to my first race in 1993, I was a big Rusty Wallace fan. I wouldn't say it's lack of charisma though. I'm not a JJ fan now but I used to be. When he first came up as rookie I thought he was a great driver. But when the 48 team kept getting busted for cheating I started to dislike them. I feel they're overrated because of their Chase domination. He'd still be a 2 time champ the old way too.
rebelracing88 1 year ago
@rebelracing88 I agree totally with you ! Harvick got screwed this year why don't they split the 48 team mates like the do with the rest of the Hendrick teams and I love all the band wagon ppl wearing the 48 stuff hell half of the don't know any driver before johnson let along his busch series career wasn't all too impressive
ljcebalo07 1 year ago
Petty and Pearson ran 60+ races per year, and had little competition. they were always fastest, only people that put big $ into their cars, and heck, with nascar back in the 50's-early 80's they probably cheated big time since the tech inspection was minimal at best.
ChevyCamaro33 2 years ago
Yeah but Pearson won 3 championships without even running a whole season one time. Besides back in those days you didn't have all this aero BS, you actually had to drive the damn car if you wanted to win.
