If I get the funds to buy a clock, I will have to remember about an Urgos movement...because of my ear, I need the Westminster Quarters to be on certain pitches (ie, the ones my grandparents' had), and considering the hour strike is precisely the same chord construction, I'm sure the Westminster would be correct (in my mind)

@musictheoryguru One way to really tell is see how the weights connect to the chain or cable. If it has a hook connected to a hook, then it's definitely an Urgos.

@beauloftis1976 I haven't seen the clock in 18 years and probably won't ever see it again :( But I do have 2 pics from '87, and there appear to be hooks on the chains....plus that seems to be my recollection, but I didn't pay attention much to the weights or chains all those years

I'd like to add that I like the fact that the pendulum is simply a wood stick and bob....I think the lyre on many pendulums is just plain tacky, if not all-out ugly

Quarter-hour chimes are way too fast (as are the Whittington in that video)...I like the hour strike which consists of the exact same pitches that my grandparents' Ridgeway had...very strong and loud..

High G-sharp on quarter hour chime set is awfully flat...detracts from this a bit...overall nice clock (it's a Ridgeway, duh)

Better get a cart of some kind or at least a dolly. These things from what I hear are extremely fragile and a single mis-alignment could keep it from functioning properly. Needless to say... It would look awesome if there were gargoyles or dragons on it.

a new one probably some department stores...

but if you want an older ridgeway your best bet is ebay or craigslist....go for an early ridgeway...made back when they still built quality movements, and they have a nice old look without being too tall or gawdy.

@bagpiper2005 Me too! this kind of hour strike chord is prettier and more musical sounding than the usual dichordant strike chord heard on today's clocks. It's on Urgos movents like this one that they sounded the best!
