@quietpopcorn First of all, that's not as true as it once was. Hardware is improving all the time. Secondly, more and more homes are having more than one computer. So it's not about whether a single computer can utilize 1 Gbps, but rather a network of computers. And in any case, it will be an improvement. Whether it uses the full 1 Gbps or not. It's still faster than the 3-30 Mbps some people have now.

@darklinkx8 Google will only be providing the Infrastructure, e.g. Laying down the fibre. What the ISPs do with that fibre is up to them. Google can't take over the World if they only own what the world runs on. They still need someone to provide the services. What Google are trying to do, is give all the ISPs a push for faster Internet, which will directly benefit Google in that there will be more people online to use their primary services, and they can access them faster as well.
