what guitar is that? Only decent 8 strings I find are conklin, and they're too aspensive. Need a cheaper alternative (not esp or ibanez or schect... esp is cheaply made, ibanez I hate floyd rose, and schects are way too fucking heavy)
@nanthil 8 string ibanez's dont have floyds. Other than that the only option i can think of is Agile guitars. since the whole craze for 8 strings is relatively new, not too many companies have them in production. To get exactly want you want, custom is the way to go.
This is Javier's actual account right? If so could you please list the main chord progression you used? Or direct me to other musicians who play as well as you? I'm trying to get into this sort of jazz, and while the theory is one matter, knowing where to develop your ear is another.
Flawless work at Sunday's NYC show Javier!!! This piece is beautiful, and I'm really looking forward to hearing even more of your influence on the next Animals or T.R.A.M. album.
@omrix2 Nope, TRAM is just the band name. Type in "TRAM - Endeavors" in the search bar and you'll find it. They only have a couple songs released. This is one of them.
Yeah J-man, i caught you guys in new orleans, super solid performance, I love the new writing, more so than the old stuff i think, not sure yet, but i can definitely tell that the new stuff was a collective effort, the writing is immaculate.
Just listen to the rhythm guitar on the new album Weightless. Allot more jumping around and more demanding then some of the older stuff. (rhythm as in what Tosin ISN'T playing)
@bejamillion2 don't think Tosin is in the background. Javier joined after the finish of the debut album. still he very well competes Tosin. awesome guitarist, awesome duo and an awesome sophomore album.'
@bejamillion2 its not that either are necisarially more skilled than each other, its just that AAL was tosin's project to create into what he wanted, so he just needed someone to keep up. Im sure Javier a project just as great
Great technique, but I would try to get out of the habit of anchoring your pinky. Not that it affects you negatively in any way, I just think it would be a nuisance.
Agreed, funny how they both individually developed a similar sound (broad and melodic 8-string work with heavy manipulation and loosening of time). Tosin's note-choice though is restricted to a more conventionally "progressive" sound with jazz colors added in for good measure, while I can clearly hear more classical phrasing in Reyes' playing. Reyes needs to do more solos!
@TheColossall Just playing the non-Tosin parts require a pretty good understanding of rhythm. Besides, I doubt Abasi would've picked some random dude to play with him :)
@kampfgolem i know that, but i think a lot of people get into animals because of the sweeping and tapping which is kinda gay cuz they have so much more to offer
Can you please record and put this out if it isn't already on the new album, dude. You are a totally underrated guitarist. Keep making beautiful music.
King Javier, King Navene, King Tosin. AAL will be my #1 'till the day I die. There was never an album that had so much to say without actually saying a word.
AAL fans, I love Tosin's work as much as the next but seriously, don't sleep on Javier. He doesn't get enough praise honestly. The dude is a sick as Tosin.
Holy shit Javier Reyes is officially one the most under-rated guitarists of all time in my book. The more I look at his solo work the more I realize how awesome he actually is. This stuff is phenomenal.
i got a lot of respect for javier as a musician and its cool cause animals as leaders played in charleston on the 28th of july and i got to actually hang with javier............hes a cool character to talk to and he let me mess around on his 8 string. one of the best days of my life

@Freezaen i meant "structure" in the sense that it sounds like he just pieced riffs together without a direction not that it should have a chorus and bridge like an aerosmith song would.
@39selrach Well, whether or not we have the same idea of structure, we can both agree that this is a beautiful song that flows nicely and brings joy to it's lisceners (Unless of course you're frustrated by not ebing able to paly it). XD
@39selrach This piece wouldn't have sounded this good with a different structure. This is jazz, it's got to be free and going forward without any hesitation and circling.
That could easily be an AAL song, if it isn't already!! Man, Tosin and Javier could easily change music the way we know it. Hopefully, on their next album Javier will be able to add his music. Animals as Leaders forever!!!
@bcknghmgrn yeah I saw someone playing one on the paladia channel last night too. It has a similar body type to one of the Scott French guitars but the headstock was throwing me off. Beautiful sounds sir.
Or Javier Reyes haha, I have much respect for this band. I thought Tosin was the only one that was good when I first heard them, listened to the members seperately and damn, they are all great musicians.
