  • I'm planning on getting one like that.

  • Hi did you get a case with your bass, was it a hardshell or gig bag, the ad i read said bass and cass 399.00

  • @lsant36 HI, Check out North Coast Music, they are about that price. They also will add the tea cup knobs and the price with case and shipping is $ 409. Guitar Center and other main stream stores are usually offering the bass only for $ 369. and the case can run up to $ 95. on some sites.

  • The same bass of Condor VB40 without the Hofner´s logo.

  • What strings are you using? I hear the stock strings for this bass suck and I want to get this bass.

  • I'm a beginner guitarist and in my "playing" I have always played just the top two strings in different "thud thud thud" patterns to match to tune of the song. Should I stick with guitar or pick up a bass?

  • I've recently become a huge Paul Mccartney fan and he's inspired me to want to play bass, I found a website that sells this bass for $400. Does anyone think that is a good price and a good bass to start with?

  • @PAVI259 I think it's a great bass, but keep in mind the neck is a lot shorter than most bass guitars, so your fingers will be much closer together.

Also if you are just starting and not sure if you really want to play bass, you might consider a cheaper option in case it's not your thing.

  • @PAVI259 Great you discovered Paul for yourself. I think the price is OK. Is it musiciansfreind the site you reffer to?

In Europe they are about 240 euros, 270-280 with hard case

  • @VladL01 Yes I am talking about Musician's Friend. Thanks for replying by the way. I ended up buying a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, and I hope to buy a Hofner within a few years or so.

  • @PAVI259 OK. Maybe this forum will be helpfull to you

    hofner.co.uk

  • @dillpickle327 it doesn't matter what strings you put on it. I play in my schools marching band with my hofner and we play everything. And everyone always coments on how great it sounds and I still have the stock strings on it.

  • I have buy a HI-BB (I think it's the same bass no ?), flatwound strings make really a difference ? I don't know if I must to buy a set... (sorry for my english, I'm a french)

Good cover of a good Beatles' song !

  • Please man help me, when you bought this bass, the sound of the strings were OK, or did you have do change them to flatwound ?

  • I has a question... Please no douche bag respones but i want to get this bass but would it be suitable if i didnt have flatwounds to play other genres of music or like other kind of bands. Like i love the beatles but would it be okay to play like green day stuff or 5 for fighting or sum 41. Thanks

  • i got one and it was a piece of crap

it sounds empty and not deep enough compared to a fender bass

im not sure if its the strings though

im pretty sure its because of the hollow body

  • Sounds really great, I'm thinking of getting one soon.

  • I just got an hofner bass too but I got a problem (maybe..)

did you noticed that the first string (low E) sounds completely muted with flatwound strings without amp ?

  • @ettorejim Yeah, but it's not mean to play without an amp is it?

  • @TennisNick true

  • @ettorejim I Have the 63 vintage model the real handmade in Germany one the icon and contemporary models are made in china and are pretty much crap and low quality. Mine is the best quality bass i have every owned and the E string is very loud without my amp i have the original flatwound strings on my

  • @YellowSubmarine20 i ve got the ct and its great and ive still got loads of money left over to get a high class whore for a night

  • Are you trying to play 'I Want To Hold Your Hand'? If you are, you are off.

  • @BeatlesMadeTheWorld Hahaha, With that screen name, you can't catch the tune I was really playing?

  • @TennisNick Well I recognize it, close to Dig A Pony, I don't know. I am sorry.

  • @BeatlesMadeTheWorld lol, nah, it's the progression to "You Really Got a Hold On Me", with a few liberties taken on the bassline,

  • @TennisNick Funny lol I recognized it right away, great playing by the way

  • Is this exactly the same bass McCartney use or does he use antoher kind? (i mean hofner too but with better materials or something like that)

  • @kn1ght0fcydon1a McCartney still uses his original Hofner from the 60's, which I believe was German made.

  • such a beautiful instrument. im getting this for christmas or maybe earlyr

  • Gosh that sounds nice! What kind of amp did you use?

  • is that a gibson or epiphone SG bass on your wall?

  • Hi! I'm looking for a good bass. I want a bass that can play Beatles trype stuff- that is, manage a Rickenbacker sound, but be able to play the hofner stuff accurately. However, I also want to play groove type stuff- specifically, Nathan Watts basslines (Stevie Wonder bassist). I love the tones on Songs in the Key of Life (Stevie W., not sure if ur familiar) and the tones on Sgt Pepper. Is this a good bass to do all this, or do u have another bass in mind. I don't need ALL of this, but u know...

  • thats wicked lad, nice room!

  • Nice SG, also Nice Hofner, i have the same, mines about a year old, i took the pickguard off too.

  • whats the difference between a hofner icon b bass and a hofner icon bass?

  • @MegaFishingboat Nothing. Literally. They're the exact same bass.

  • Comment removed

  • @TennisNick what about a hofner b-bass hi-series

  • @TheDaytonkid That's they said when mozart died...

  • ...I got one and first thing I did was re-string with Flatwounds and also got rid of those ugly black knobs and scored some nice cream and gold retro teacups... will improve the look of your bass by far... Also am considering taking off the pickguard... have noticed McCartney isn't using it anymore... or perhaps he has various models... Good video! :)

  • Thanks for posting... I just scored one in almost new condition on Ebay for $209 and couldn't believe I wasn't outbid... This whetted my appetite as I anxiously wait for mine to come in... What is funny is that we have similar rooms as I am a BIG TIME Beatles' room and do home recordings too... I also have that Abbey Road sign... Great minds think alike... Thanks again for taking the time to make this video... by the way.. check my videos out,I have some from the Fest for Beatles' Fans in Vegas

  • @TheDaytonkid whats the slap compared to the fender jazz bass?

  • Sounds great.

  • ordered one 2minutes ago

  • you should get some "teacup knobs" the ones that come with it dont look authentic

  • I found one at Guitar Center for like 400 bucks!!!!!!! IM SERIOUS IT IS NOT AN EPIPHONE HOFNER VIOLA!! CHECK IT OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I found one for 369

  • @ToastedOmond not to burst your bubble or anything, but its a made in china hofner.

  • how much does it cost???

  • This one is the Hofner ICON..it doens't cost over $1000 like the reissues. This one can be found easily for less than $400.

  • @MrAntone97

On Guitar Center's website they are $369

  • Oh the haters, go kill yourselves or stop searching things you hate!

I'm getting one of these, ordered it in november, have shitty luck. Now I have it re ordered so It'll ship on christmas freaking eve. Maybe they can dig up my corps and have me re buried with it!!

    I want it now =[

PAUL MCCARTNEY IS GOD OF BASS!

  • I use a Hofner ignition, And Its Great.

  • hi,,the strings are avilable np off e bay(never put norm ones on,i think ther too much for them) i have a 1963 (number on back of neck)and one i was told was a 1969 but maybe from into the 70"s) i must say the older ones seem alot better, and all you wanting one,buy a 60-70 one as ther way to cheap (e bay again) norm a 64-70 gets about 1,5k(uk) earlyer they were made 1 at a time to order and can be double +

  • @stuthebru Please speak ENGLISH or try to structure your sentences better because your post made no sense at all. What on earth are you trying to say. You're not from the United States I can tell from your writing.

  • Mine sounds good. Try to change the strings, the factory ones are a crap.

  • i have this bass and it is a complete piece of shit. it worked fine for about a day and then the thing just fell apart on me. i cant wait to sell it and buy the contemporary series version.

  • The 4th one sounds almost acoustic

  • I think you sold me on the Icon over the Rogue or Jay Turser copies just from this vid alone.

  • you should not buy any copy of any bass. and this itself its the cheapest of the series.

  • I disagree. Copies are for people who want the look without the price. Hofners in themselves are far from decent bassists. They only are the price they are thanks to Mr. McCartney. I want a copt for the look, sound, and price.

  • why did you take the plate off of that said icon series?

  • I didn't take it off, I just used some naphta to remove the writing, I just think it looks better this way.

  • I have this bass, it's amazing I just bought it and I play profeesional and have been for 25 years, cant say eniough about this bass, one problem...... string may be a problem.... get the hofner flats. you wont have to worry aboutt hem fitting becasue those strings were made for that bass

  • where can i get those strings????

  • that's a great bass tone, meaty and deep.

  • Nice sound

    Nice Bass...

  • hey would u rececommend this bass to me? i am thinking of getting a new bass, and this one look nice

  • those are flats??

  • Interesting sound. I'd always wondered what this entry level Höfner bass sounded like. I've got a hand made in Germany '67 vintage, and can clearly hear the difference between the two.

  • which one sounds better. how much was the '67?

  • The '67 clearly has a more defined sound, and cost $1500 in 1984 when I purchased it. I am the 1st & only owner, it being in the store since new.

I walked in one day, and asked if they had one or could even get one. I was pleasantly surprised.

  • thank u fer the diagram!..=0]

  • Sounds gorgeous!!!

  • What do you mean the vid is mimed?

  • I recorded the audio previously, the video you see is just me playing along to the recordings I made, just to give you something to look at during the demo!

  • Nice Job.

    What song were you playing?

  • You Really Got A Hold On Me

  • Can you play slap style on this type of Hofner? I have a Contemporary Series and was wondering if it's right for slap.

  • There's nothing stopping you, but it won't sound like the typical slap bass.

  • These basses are meant to sound like a bass nothing else.I just purchaed a new Hofner Contemporary Club for 475.00 looks like the average price on ebay is like 700. Looks like I finally lucked out.

  • Yes, it sounds like you got REALLy lucky! I found a Rickenbacker 1998 reissue locally for $800 one time! Sold by the time I got to the seller.... That one got away!

  • pretty cool Nick...looks like you changed out the tailpiece.

I just got mine not too long ago..I'm sure you've seen the pics I posted...mine came with the Pyramids and I love it now.

    see ya next time!!!

  • It's bone stock, besides the strings.

  • Is the song your playing for the test 'The Beatles, you really got a hold on me' ? Lol (('J'))

  • yup

  • i wanna buy Hofner Bass

    but

    i got cuestion

the sound is similar than other bass???

ammm i love the beatles songs but i play other covers example guns, metallica. my cuestion is can i play with the hofner thats other covers and sound good?

    sorry ffor my english.

  • It's not gonna cover the ground you're looking for. It's a niche bass, it has it's sound and it does it well, but for versatility, you might want to look into FEnders, or Rickenbackers.

  • Nice vid. I've got an early sixtees semi-ac. Hofner guitar. See my vid

  • Those looks nice! Have you seen the new reissue of the Verythin?

  • my computer is lagging

  • Whats the Difference between Icon and Contempory Series'?

  • The Contemporary LOOKS more like the German Hofner, but it has a solid center block making it act more like a solid body.

  • well thats great mate i might do the same at first get the icon, i have some debate what strings actually Sir Paul used many say flat wound strings but i noticed his hofner is not dead sounding like when i had the experience of playing the hofner a couple of months ago but when i got the guy to put round wounds on the hofner it sounded like mccartneys also a vox ac30 bass amp will thicken the sound up (warm and creamy) so that may also be the reason for mccartneys tone (try a compressor)

  • There's no doubt that Paul had flats on the Hofner, it's one of those universal truthes! lol. If you want that old school McCartney tone, check out Tomastik Infeld flatwounds. They're the closest to the strings Paul had back in the day. Now, he uses LaBella, like the ones I have on my Icon.

  • ok thanks for that info mate i did not know that about the brand of strings i defently agree, yeah i played a hofner a couple months ago with the pyramid flats on it, it sounded very dead then i got the guy at the shop to put roundwounds on it, then oh my god it sounded beautiful i guess i am in the same boat as you i did not have $3500 to pull out of my wallet to buy the german made hofner but after hearing your bass the chinese version sounds great anyway

    cheers-Andy

  • I've definitely got no complaints about the Icon, but that doesn't mean I don't want a German Hofner... just because!

I love the thud Paul got on early Beatles tunes, still trying to find out where that tone is!

  • hey mate great sounding bass those flatwound strings sound very trebly but? you sure you dont have roundwound stings on it

    cheers-Andy

  • Yeah man, they're flatwounds. It's a touch bright for 3 reasons.

    1. Youtube doesn't like bass frequencies as much

    2. I do have the treble up on the amp, just because I like it.

    3. LaBella flats (when new) are much brighter than TI's or pyramid flats.

  • Hey, just an update, it's now 4 month later, and these flats have finally taken their true character, it's got that nice thump to it now, more so than in the video, I really dig them!

  • ???

  • o quê?
