@lsant36 HI, Check out North Coast Music, they are about that price. They also will add the tea cup knobs and the price with case and shipping is $ 409. Guitar Center and other main stream stores are usually offering the bass only for $ 369. and the case can run up to $ 95. on some sites.
I'm a beginner guitarist and in my "playing" I have always played just the top two strings in different "thud thud thud" patterns to match to tune of the song. Should I stick with guitar or pick up a bass?
I've recently become a huge Paul Mccartney fan and he's inspired me to want to play bass, I found a website that sells this bass for $400. Does anyone think that is a good price and a good bass to start with?
@VladL01 Yes I am talking about Musician's Friend. Thanks for replying by the way. I ended up buying a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, and I hope to buy a Hofner within a few years or so.
@dillpickle327 it doesn't matter what strings you put on it. I play in my schools marching band with my hofner and we play everything. And everyone always coments on how great it sounds and I still have the stock strings on it.
I have buy a HI-BB (I think it's the same bass no ?), flatwound strings make really a difference ? I don't know if I must to buy a set... (sorry for my english, I'm a french)
I has a question... Please no douche bag respones but i want to get this bass but would it be suitable if i didnt have flatwounds to play other genres of music or like other kind of bands. Like i love the beatles but would it be okay to play like green day stuff or 5 for fighting or sum 41. Thanks
@ettorejim I Have the 63 vintage model the real handmade in Germany one the icon and contemporary models are made in china and are pretty much crap and low quality. Mine is the best quality bass i have every owned and the E string is very loud without my amp i have the original flatwound strings on my
Hi! I'm looking for a good bass. I want a bass that can play Beatles trype stuff- that is, manage a Rickenbacker sound, but be able to play the hofner stuff accurately. However, I also want to play groove type stuff- specifically, Nathan Watts basslines (Stevie Wonder bassist). I love the tones on Songs in the Key of Life (Stevie W., not sure if ur familiar) and the tones on Sgt Pepper. Is this a good bass to do all this, or do u have another bass in mind. I don't need ALL of this, but u know...
...I got one and first thing I did was re-string with Flatwounds and also got rid of those ugly black knobs and scored some nice cream and gold retro teacups... will improve the look of your bass by far... Also am considering taking off the pickguard... have noticed McCartney isn't using it anymore... or perhaps he has various models... Good video! :)
So right now I have a crestwood bass. I dont know wich model it is but I want to get a Hoffner bass. I can only buy the Hoffner Icon B right now because of the price.
I want to play more music like Beatles style and I want to know if it will sound better on the Hofner than on my Crestwood.
Thanks for posting... I just scored one in almost new condition on Ebay for $209 and couldn't believe I wasn't outbid... This whetted my appetite as I anxiously wait for mine to come in... What is funny is that we have similar rooms as I am a BIG TIME Beatles' room and do home recordings too... I also have that Abbey Road sign... Great minds think alike... Thanks again for taking the time to make this video... by the way.. check my videos out,I have some from the Fest for Beatles' Fans in Vegas

Hey, just an update, it's now 4 month later, and these flats have finally taken their true character, it's got that nice thump to it now, more so than in the video, I really dig them!
I'm planning on getting one like that.

PAVI259 4 months ago
@PAVI259 I think it's a great bass, but keep in mind the neck is a lot shorter than most bass guitars, so your fingers will be much closer together.
Also if you are just starting and not sure if you really want to play bass, you might consider a cheaper option in case it's not your thing.

@PAVI259 Great you discovered Paul for yourself. I think the price is OK. Is it musiciansfreind the site you reffer to?
In Europe they are about 240 euros, 270-280 with hard case

The Contemporary LOOKS more like the German Hofner, but it has a solid center block making it act more like a solid body.

well thats great mate i might do the same at first get the icon, i have some debate what strings actually Sir Paul used many say flat wound strings but i noticed his hofner is not dead sounding like when i had the experience of playing the hofner a couple of months ago but when i got the guy to put round wounds on the hofner it sounded like mccartneys also a vox ac30 bass amp will thicken the sound up (warm and creamy) so that may also be the reason for mccartneys tone (try a compressor)

hey mate great sounding bass those flatwound strings sound very trebly but? you sure you dont have roundwound stings on it
cheers-Andy
captainflush1971 3 years ago
Yeah man, they're flatwounds. It's a touch bright for 3 reasons.
1. Youtube doesn't like bass frequencies as much
2. I do have the treble up on the amp, just because I like it.
3. LaBella flats (when new) are much brighter than TI's or pyramid flats.
