Thank you so much for this. I've been studying for quite a while for an upcoming test reading and on the fluid mosaic model, but I couldn't get a very good mental image so to speak of who this all comes together and which part is which etc. Even though there were some complaints that the terminology wasn't technical enough i appreciated that it wasn't, entirely riddled with jargon, my brain's already fried from all the studying. Thanks again!

Acctually, YOUDONTKNOWJOE, its not supposed to be completly accurate on size, its just a model, it doesn't have to be to scale, dosen't mean it's out of date, and yes, there are more protiens, but it showed only one in one part to show the functions if it had the correct amount, it would be very hard to animate, and noone could see what was happening.... This is a REALLY good model video.

This very nice clip, but actually it is´nt correct. This modell is a bit outdated. The proteins are way too small cpmpared to lipid layer and there are too little of them. The original membran is full of proteins - so many that you can hardly see any lipids between them. See this publication: Donald M. Engelmann: Membranes are more mosaic than fluid, Nature

Great Video but i feel you should go into more detail about the phosopholipid bilayer and use the more technical vocab. like hydrophillic and hydrophobic. Also i was unsure of how the intrinsic proteins ( pores) enabled only selected diffusion. Just add a little detail about the glycoprotein and you would have a GCSE standard video. well done!

@GarethMuggins I think this is good for a general youtube audience. For most people hydrophobic and hydrophilic would be confusing. And as a physicist I don't like those words anyway as they suggest that hydrophobic molecules are scared of water, when in fact water just excludes these molecules because of the polar attraction between the water molecules. And the select diffusion of ions through pores is a bit too complicated for this video, but it involves electrodynamics of the protein.
