Someone cued me into this --- at the 1:55 minute mark, Mylon LeFevre is the bearded / Mustachio'd / sun-glass wearing hippy. He was the opening act for the Who that year.... and later went on to be a pretty strong influence on CCM in the 1980's as "Mylon LeFevre & Broken Heart". Too cool (& Thanks to Jerry Bryant & Chris Hauser for the heads up info)
thank you so much for this video....THE WHO was and always will be the finest art-side of true revolutionary people and youth....when I saw that beautiful USSR thing on Daltrey's jacket, the heart just runs wilder....long live rock!!!
Sometimes Daltrey can have some surprisingly smart things to say and this is a example.
Townshend would probably get too caught up in explaining his thinking (although I would kill to have a peak of what weird things go through his mind).
I know all about the festival. Daltrey gave her a Shepherds Bush no b.s. answer. She was trying to corner him in for a particular ideology and he was essentially saying he was a musician/performer first and foremost.
Très beau document,très rare...Mon père y était et m'en parle tout le temps comme étant son plus beau souvenir de cette époque (et je le comprends)!Merci WHOZEBOSS.

The original of this tape should be sourced and restored / reprinted etc. as it is a particularly good piece of footage from the period.

The people who decided to rest during The Who's set should have been born in the 90's or shot on sight. It's just not right!

The source is footage taken by Maria Koleva for her political documentary La fête aujourd'hui, la fête demain (1974).

I get a big kick out of Roger telling the interviewer that the 'political side' is 'bullshit'.
Would pay nearly anything to hear a modern musician say that....

At 1:12 .."and you come last" with a big smile on his face.

I saw Genesis at the same gig about 1978. Hope The Who had better PA. The crowd kept chanting 'Louder! Louder!' Really crap.

Daltrey had old school West London street smarts. I don't think the pompous French interviewer gets it.

She wasn't being pompous, she was bemused at the stuff that Daltrey was saying when he was about to go on stage at the Fête de l'humanité.
ie. a festival organised and supporting a Communist Party daily newspaper.
"people can do without politics, people can live very well without politics"
Sorry, but I think he was a twat.
