  • Oh my god. I loved this ride. I went on it for the first time this summer with my grandma. We went on it like 4 times. I love kings island. I hope to come back again next year cause I love roller coasters.

  • She should have wished for a new hair cut instead

  • poor grandma

  • My question is where in the world can I get a model of the beast like they used there...that is freaking awesome!!

  • "You can't really get a coaster 200 feet on level ground"... hahaha oh the 1980's.

  • Eww... those ugly, strange as fuck 80s kids. I'm grateful that people have been made prettier today.

  • @AwesomeCoasters Hey! I resemble that remark! I'm one year older than her! lol

  • whats kristens last name

  • @austinvanhalen I have no idea what her last name is.

  • oh my god I swear this thing gave me a concussion or whiplash or something! It made my head hurt so bad!

  • "You can't really get a coaster to 200 feet on level ground"

hahahahaha Cedar Point did it later 4 years later, and on sinking ground none the less!

  • i would love to go on diamondback for the first time and many times i wanna do that if the show is still around lol

  • kristen would be around 37 years old today, imagine finding yourself on youtube 26 years ago!

  • oh rly Intmindator 305 can reach 94mph

  • @superkingboo Wood coaster + 1979 = Far less than the speeds today, with steel

  • lol "you can't build a 200 foot drop on level ground"

    Thanks 1985!!

  • The difference in my upbringing and uh, hers? is The Beast was my FIRST coaster. Stood in line for 2 hours to ride it, 2 hours of being nervous, scared shitless, and excited all at the same time. I'm 29 now, my parents are in their late 50's and you know what? We still ride it. I've rode that ride for about 20 years and it's still the best ride I've ever been on. Something about it makes it that great. If you have never tamed The Beast at night, make sure you do. It's a whole new ride!

  • the carts look so diff now lol

  • so what happened to the pond that used to be under the beast right when it leaves the station? did they fill it in or something because ive seen newer footage and theres no water.

  • @cannibalonXthedead The water (pond) was taken out in 1987 when the Vortex was built. If you check out footage on here from the 1970's you will see that where Drop Tower (Zone) there used to be water--little islands--over there as well.

Another interesting fact: If you saw the Brady Bunch episode when they were at Kings Island the canoe ride that Jan Brady found her dad's plans is where the Beast is today.

  • @jesusfreak47331 Remember The Bat?

  • @cannibalonXthedead They drained it. You can still see the water marks on the posts to this day.

  • Wow! Ancient!

  • 4:20 When the train starts moving she's like OMFG!!!

  • Ok, 1 he's a wussy, hahahahah na, I'm just jealous.

2 I love the old ladys riding it!!!!! BHAHAHAHAH

    3 I miss the water

4 This is when the you could stand up on rides 5 NO head rests!!!!

and 6 , NO trims!!! Ii hate trims!!!

  • "And you can't build a coaster over 200 feet on level ground" If only they knew.

  • I'd like to see him ride Diamondback. But I don't know the guy.

  • I wish I was alive back when the beast was free of trim brakes. In 2010 their are brakes on almost every drop. It is a shame that the children and teenagers (my self included) of the 21st century will not be able to experience the beast with out its choke chain. Now even the Son of Beast has no loop and will most likely end up as mulch in our gardens! What is our world coming too?

  • @sse1478 agreed SOOOO much!!

  • I don't get it. The beast is @ kings island, and there showing it on Disney channel?!?

  • @Alphawolf108 Back when the Disney Channel was 1. A premium channel and 2. Actually had pretty good programming.

  • @tvkirby O, ok. I only like Disney World and some of Disneys singers. I hate Miley Cyrus and Hannah Mintsnnah I like some if the Jonas brothers songs. But I do like Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez those are the only Disney singers I like.

  • lol, Disney sucks now. I miss all them old shows.

  • @Alphawolf108 what is there to get?

  • I'm going today with my band. Stoked. Stoked. Stoked : D

  • I wish they still had this TV show. My wish would be to have an entire Disney World park to myself for the day. :-D

  • This is the biggest wooden rollercoaster in the world still.

  • Is it just me or does the 11 year old sound totally unexcited about riding The Beast...

  • @gamepro217 And why wasn't she seating in the FRONT row? She had the entire thing to herself... ???

  • @DisneyTweek19 I'm guessing that part of the reason they weren't in the front was to make room for the camera mount. But there are shots of the train going by where you can't see a camera mount in the front and they are still sitting several rows back.

  • @tvkirby That makes sense. I probably should have thought of that. Haha. Thanks! :-)

  • This really used to be the biggest in the world?

  • @trentisdrrange Yes. In those days it was advertised as "The Biggest, Baddest, Longest, Fastest Wooden Rollercoaster in the World!" You would wait in line for over FOUR hours to ride it! They had an area painted on the ground for where people should stand in line that had "Beast" footprints painted on it. It crissed crossed back and fourth through the park all the way back past the pizza restaraunt! I would starve smelling that pizza while I waited!

  • The Voyage in Holiday World and The Beast are the best wooden coasters on the planet!!

  • @thelookout782 Add the Boss at Six Flags St. Louis to comprise the 3 best wooden roller coasters in the world!

  • 2 awesome things here- no seat belts- just a bar and the water that was below the station is there. that was the best.

  • The model shown is not correct to what was ultimately built.

  • Yep. The Helix is backwards for one thing.

  • @IHaveArrived there also isn't a turn at the bottom of the first drop.

  • @legokinz Yes there is. It's in the tunnel.

  • 2 chains, wtf

  • Who would have thought about 25 years later its still one of the best rollercoasters in the world?

  • haha 4:21

  • lol 2:45

"you cant get a ride to 200 feet on flat ground"

haha now we have over 400 feet ones on flat ground

  • what do you mean. Your comment confuses me and many more I'm assuming

  • It is a reference to a comment made in the video by someone simply called "one of the designers". At 2 min 30 seconds he is noting that in terms of total elevation - not the 141 ft main drop but highest point to lowest point - The Beast drops over 200 ft. At the time this engineer could not imagine engineering coasters over 400 ft. Anyone know who is?

  • lol 4 years later the magnum was built

  • Did she poop her panties when hitting that tunnel?

  • right around 2:20, she's thinking "Oh crap, I just THIS ride?!?!? I'm gonna die..."

XD...she looked funny after the first drop...dunno why though...

  • what a loser. the he-she didn't even put its hands up.

  • This had to be on an offday at Kings Island. I mean, c'mon, they wouldn't shut down a ride all day for one person.

If you ask me, they took advantage of the situation... free advertizment!

  • is this bumpy, fun, safe, and does it hut u. like give u a headache

  • Moderately Bumpy, Extremely Fun, Extremely safe, no headache when I ride it =P

  • It does give you a headache, but its totally worth it :P

  • That would stink if you went there and it was closed for one person to ride

  • ahhhhu lucky little fart

  • why does he get to go on with nobody else?

  • its actually a she

  • no its actually a He lol fail

  • Which one is the sister and which is the brother? I cant tell.

  • I think the sister is the one who ends up riding with the rest of the family at the end...I think...

  • Its funny cus back then 65 MPH was the fastest one, now the Kingda Ka is like 128 and 456 ft high

  • THATS A GIRL! lol

  • Hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • Actually they are just in the first row of the second car, most likely so they could mount a camera on the back of the first car. (Cameras were much bigger back then, remember.)

  • yea but the cars don't run that close together. if something happened to one it would crash into the other. thats why in most coasters you go when the second train is usually on the last hill or run. so if something messes up they can stop your car.

  • I love the beast it is so awesome I love it I was scared at first waiting in line and on the first hill but after that i was fine now i could ride it a million times and not get scared!

  • I love the Beast more than I love my wife, or breathing air. It is my life.

  • Damn dude, thats pretty bold, lol! Oh well...at least your honest. Ride on!

  • Ahhhhhh, I miss the moat! :(

  • that looks soooo fun

but why didnt they sit in front? thats a waste although they prolly did after the first one

  • I went today (the first day of school for many schools in OH) and NO ONE was there. My friends and I had the Beast entirely to ourselves. We rode it 14 times in a row, with only 3 other people. No line. At all.

  • the world record for most times rode is 4,400 times......the station looks so freaking diffrent....and the train only has one lap bar....now they have two...and now headrests.....i can also do hands the whole ride

  • headrests!? you have to be kidding me. that ride is fun because its a bit rough.

  • the beast is fucking awsome jsut the tunnels are feay and noisy

  • I Love the Beast LoL

  • this ride isn't that scarry but it is cool how u go threw the forest

  • my uncle got stuck on this twice. lol. but one time my couzin went on it, (hes 25) and the people at the station control the speed and they lost control of the speed so they were flyin through every turn and stuff until the very end they used the emergancy brakes and every1 whiplashed. LOL!

  • you cant control the speed on a roller coaster. You're full of complete shit you know. Once the Train has left the lift hill, it''s all about physics. No motor, no controls, nothing. Seriously, don't comment unless you know what you are talking about

  • yeah matters9319, you shouldnt comment unless you know what you are talking about. The Beast's speed is controlled because there are trim brakes all throughout the ride. If they lose control of the trim brakes, the coaster will go extra fast. They have brakes down the first hill and everything. "Seriously, don't comment unless you know what you are talking about" - matters9319

  • yeah ellogp56,In 2002, after a brake failure caused several minor injuries, the park replaced The Beast's original skid brakes with a newer fin and magnetic brake system.serirously dont comment unless you know what you r talking about

  • Roller coasters are designed to complete the ride safely without trim breaks. Trims are only used to slow down the ride to make it less rough and/or go at the pre-determined speed at that section. The Beast only has 3 (maybe 4, i can't remember) trim brake sections. One on the first hill, one on the second, one in the mid-course brake shed, and if I'm remembering right, one on the hill leading into the helix. It had to have been the final brakes to fail.

  • Whoa, buddy. No need to be so harsh. Anyhoo, they can control the Beast a bit with the trim breaks. Now, I do not think what he said was accurate in the least bit. I think he missunderstood what really happened and that was when the track and skid breaks were wet and therefore lost enough grip to stop the train in time. I'm not saying I'm right either. I'd have to look into it, but I really don't feel like it lol.

But, dude, couldn't ya lighten up a bit? Anyhoo, keep on coastin'! :)

  • woahhh that sounddsss intense and wickedd!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish i wass himm :/lmaoo

  • what i think is hilarious is that my uncle got stuck on this coaster 2 times. LOL. and my cousin went on it, (hes 25) and the speed is controlled by the people and he said that they lost control of the speed so they were goin crazy fast through every turn and bank and finally at the very end rite before the station they slammed on the emergency brakes and everyone whiplashed. LOL!

  • The part just after the second lift is the most intense experience I've ever had on a coaster (especially at night) because it just keeps going faster....and faster....and faster. And it's really loud. It's still my favorite coaster of all time.

  • If the beast was left unchanged since the day it was created then It would still be widely considered the greatest roller coaster ever.

  • best coaster eva!!! maybe lol

  • wow no wait for the back or front seat and they choose the middle

  • Kings Island, Ohio?...more like Mason Ohio hun...gotta go play shaker run soon

  • yumm.

  • The beast is one of the best wooden roller coaster eva!!!!1

  • it is the best wooden coaster

  • Is the best

  • the best

  • woah are u kidding the son of beast is like 2 times bigger than this and its faster

  • Just because it is bigget and faster dosen't mean it is "better". Look at The Beast. It has stood the test of time. Now, look at Son Of Beast. It is rough, and has been retrofitted without the loop due to itsaccident a few years back. Just because something is bigger and faster, dosen't always mean it is nessicarily better. I'd ride The Beast over its Son anyday.

  • and the beast is a classic and has more to offer

  • when i get back from kings island in a few days i will tell u my opinion :-D

  • 3:50 in she looks like woody harrelson

  • The last double helix is the BEST

  • The Beast is defiantly the best wooden coaster, maybe even the best coaster, and Son Of Beast is the second best wooden coaster, even though it was better with the loop :(

  • I miss this Beast. There was nothing better than riding this coaster with those old lap bars and without the magnetic trim brakes. Great video...

  • Lot to be said about this video...these guys are true engineers. All they built this damn coaster with was a calculator and pencil and still a better ride than the new ones

  • I couldn't have said it better. I've been fortunate enough to ride many of what are considered the best coasters in the world and not ONE of them compares to this thing on a late summer NIGHT.

  • Wow The Beast Made A Little Change Because I Went In The Summer Of 2007 And There Was Individual Restraints On That Ride. That Restraint On Those Kids Dosent Look So Safe On That Ride!

  • Ahhh 1985... When is was REALLY fun at Kings Island. I remember all the beer stops waiting in line.. and the killer mid 80's rock on the speakers. WOW ! what a memory !

  • its still tyte

  • i live in ohio...ok? so i wud know all the rides @ PKI (Paramounts Kings Island). evn tho iv nvr riden The Beast, i know i wanna try it...WISH ME LUCK IN MARCH!!!!

  • amazing that disney would cross promote like this

  • Cool a model!

  • "You can't really get a coaster 200 feet high on level ground" hahahahaha. This retro video is awesome

  • makes you think about the many hypers(esp. Son of Beast)

  • The only coaster out of the 159 coasters I have ridden that I almost fainted while riding!

  • Cool to see the pond filled at the beginning of the ride.

  • Agreed.

I first rode it around this same time and the pond was something I definitely remember.

A few years later I made a visit to the park and took advantage of Ruth Voss' invitation to ACE members for first ride time. When she led my wife and me over to the coaster, the first thing I noticed was that the pond was drained.

(I think one of the people in the video is Ruth, as she was in charge of publicity at the time.)

  • 1985... wow... just... wow...
