  • i love the prewriting part :)

  • where can you buy scratch-less DVD

  • Outdated dumb technology. record players!

  • What people don't always realize is that dvd burner don't in fact burn anything, but rather heat the die to simulate pits. LOL do you people really think the government would actually allow you to own lasers that burn? LOL, but what do I know right?

  • OMFG that is epic

  • DVD RW ftw.

  • wow

  • All the robotic arms look funny

  • damn!! all that just for a cd!

  • no,it's DVD-R ,have dye coating and bonding process.

  • The process is similar for CD-R except for the bonding process.

  • hey man could you help me out? do you have any links or know any info you could facilitate about this? I need to make a project of a dvd-r production plant for my Uni, and have trouble finding more detailed info. Anybody could help out? reply this comment or send me a message here through youtube if could help, thanks in advance

  • What are some specifics you need to know?

  • well What I don't seem to find is at least a short description of the different steps in the process, I can't find anywhere any info that explains this. Like what does the dye coating do for example. Short descriptions is pretty much all I need, it doesn't have to get super technical but I do need some basis as to the purpose of a given step. Any other kind of info is most likely helpful too though

  • Raw materials:

The materials actually used to construct the disc. In the case of DVD and CD discs, polycarbonate is used.

    Injection molding:

The polycarbonate is melted and injected into a special press under high pressure. Once the disc is molded, it is rapidly chilled to solidify the plastic. The disc is then extracted from the press.

  • Dye coating:

With recordable and rewritable discs, the medium that is used to carry the actual pits to be burned onto the disc is a dye, usually made of cyanine or phthalocyanine.

    Edge cleaining:

Cleaning the edges of the disc of excess dye that may have spilled over on the edges during centrifugal distribution of the dye.

  • Drying:

The dye is dried onto the disc.

    Sputtering:

The application of evaporated metal, such as aluminum, onto the disc inside a vacuum to make it reflective.

    Bonding glue:

This process is exclusive to DVD media. DVD discs are composed to two disc halves that must be bonded together to make one complete disc. A single layer disc has one half that's reflective and the other that's a transparent blank.

  • On-line scanning:

Optical inspection of the disc for quality control.

    Pre-writing:

For DVD-R media, the pre-writing writes information in the lead-in that identifies the physical format, disc manufacturer, and for inhibiting a precise copy of CSS code from original DVDs.

    Printing:

The label for the disc is silk-screened.

    Finished products and packing:

The finished discs are packaged for delivery into the distribution pipeline.

  • A million thanks for that man, you have been infinitely helpful, for real!

  • nope. cd-r process is just simple but dvd-/+r is different, it has dye coating, dryer, edge washing and bonding, cd-r is has only lacquer coating and dryer.

  • CD-R uses a dye, either in short or long strategy.

This dye is needed for recording.

  • not only dye is needed for recording, that's for DVD model, it could be a specialized targets used for recording (like Silicon target, Aluminum target or silver target). as my previous job, the machine has 7 or 9 chambers to process or make the best quality of the disc.

  • I'll quote you: "cd-r is has only lacquer coating and dryer."

In other words, you omitted that CD-R uses a cyanine-based dye and everything that goes with applying it.

In addition, if you apply the lacquer, you've sealed the disc; the lacquer is a layer of acrylic that is spin coated on the top and then hardened by UV curing to seal the dye layer and reflective layer inside.

According to your account, you reside in the Philippines. Was English your first language?

  • Comment removed

  • The reason I ask whether or not English was your first language is because some of your replies are kind of hard to understand.

This can happen with people who learned English as a second language but have not practiced enough reading to master grammar structure and vocabulary.

  • whatever.... no time to argue with a racist... anyway have a nice day!!!

  • What makes me a racist?

Just because I asked a question in regards to your ability to write in English? How does asking THAT make me a racist?

Do you realize just how ridiculous your assertion is? You don't even know who I am or what *my* race is!

Smile, because you just called another *Asian* a racist. X-D.
