@GurLWonDer I am a Muslim. But I have also read the history of these garments, they are from the Arab aristocracy. It was their sign of showing that: not only were their women hidden from view (keep them light skinned, avoid men from looking at them etc) but they were also showing off how rich they were, that their women didnt work outside (because it is impractical under that large garment). Later it became just the Niqab, and it was still a show of class. This was WELL BEFORE ISLAM LEARN THIS.

Somaliland is not a country. It is just a region within the country of Somalia. There are other regions too within Somalia like Puntland. But Somaliland is not a sovereign nation. Some people from Somaliland are separatists and see Somaliland as a separate nation. It is not recognized by any nation as its own country. It's really sad that some people want to divide our people up more than we are already divided. No matter how much some insist it's not it's own country.

@GurLWonDer I am a Muslim. But I have also read the history of these garments, they are from the Arab aristocracy. It was their sign of showing that: not only were their women hidden from view (keep them light skinned, avoid men from looking at them etc) but they were also showing off how rich they were, that their women didnt work outside (because it is impractical under that large garment). Later it became just the Niqab, and it was still a show of class. This was WELL BEFORE ISLAM LEARN THIS.

Islam means peace. Islam is total submision to God. Islam instructs us and teach us to be good and do good whatever we do. Brother Abu dalha, the Religious Leadeship equally failed in Somalia. our Islamic faith was hijacked and has taken another form warlordism in Somalia. New breed of religious warlords now run the country. I agree with you Education is Education. Religious Education is important as well, we need young relgious leaders.

This sister means well, but why is she not talking about the religious aspect of the problem. Its very interesting to see that there was no mention of the Islamic education that we have forgotten. of course we must be educated in order to get out of the trouble that we are in, but we must not forget that we are Muslims that need to adhere to the correct Islamic faith. I am not going to mention anything about the way she is dressed, that is another issue but we should religiously educate too.

Very impressive young lady with a positive message for the young generation of somalis in the diaspora. It is really encouraging to see people like Yasmin. Somalia is hopeless country with no leaders and vision. The Old generation has completely failed us and the situation of our country is not getting better, but is getting worser and worser by the day. It is us, the young generation to be leaders. Sister, I deeply thank u for promoting somali inerestng but wonder if you understand that any society depends its langauge and you and our chldrens are losing that. How do you thnk we could rebuild somali when you can not speak you native langauge, I may not and most of our generations can not. SHould we abondon it and use english? I feel sorry because u could hardly speak ur native langauge. Why somals can not speak somali? I was born in US, my dady came in 60s and I could read and write somali more than english. I even write somali poems, thou show no one because I am still studying somali history. I even think SOME think its cute to speak broken somali i guess?

Listen to what the young lady is saying. How are you going to help people in Somalia when you run around hounding and harassing other people and you can't focus on your learning. LOL, I had exactly the same problems, I use to hate Somalis here too. But due to the right friends, Im back in love with my language and culture. There are a lot of girls here who unfortunatly havent been that lucky, and the mojority of the Somali boys in london walahi need to fix up ASAP. The girls are running further and further away. yes there are many problems with the guys and girls here. They spend all their time in merfeshis (and im taking boys not faraaxs) so the girls are being wooed so to speak by blacks/arabs/whites ajanabi basically. thats the problem, and it aint getting any better walaal.

The Somali born youths in London and America dont understand how lucky they are that they can get education for free, houses and food on the stable compared to people in somalia...they would rather go out clubbin, smokin weed and do any other foolishness that doesnt require brain cells....insallah we will find our identity and show the world how beautiful and strong our culture is!!

For example look at Djibouti they use to be part of Somalia But they decided to take their independence from Somalia long time ago. And we respected it.. That is what Somaliland wants to do also you guys should respect it! All were trying to do is live in peace. Anyways.. Assalammu alaykum!

Somaliland is not a country. It is just a region within the country of Somalia. There are other regions too within Somalia like Puntland. But Somaliland is not a sovereign nation. Some people from Somaliland are separatists and see Somaliland as a separate nation. It is not recognized by any nation as its own country. It's really sad that some people want to divide our people up more than we are already divided. No matter how much some insist it's not it's own country.

Btw I am talking about the Problems between guys and girls in the UK. just in case anyone reading misunderstood. I know not all Somalis have these problems. There are a lot of educated ones who are making a difference
It is a highly considerable amount, too much then what we need. Im sure other Somalis outside the UK know or have heard about all this.
Inshallah we will not drift further apart from each other, our Culture and customs.
