U.S companies sold the oil to Nazi Germany that made it possible to bomb Britain in WW2. Please do a bit of research on this war before you make such statements.
Nah mate, Stalin & the Soviets won WWII...didn't the Capitalist propagandist elites even tell you that?
Stalin not only liberated Berlin, but the USSR did nearly ALL of the work. Soviet forces took a death toll of 8-10 million men.
US casualties were as little as 500,000...once America finally decided which side it would fight on!
The US was founded on the holocaust of 30 million native Americans (not to mention the 90 million who died of disease), so it was a pretty hard decision for them.
Yea, I forgot that this is Scientology we're dealing with. I hate it when people use their internet names in real life. This is the only situation where it's ok.
charges against epicnoseguy has been dropped. it shouldnt have gone to court in the first place. this goes to show how dangerous cult of scientology is to a free society. image if dangerous cult of scientology infiltrated the governments or if tom cruise recruited enough rich people to fund them. that is some really scary shit. epicnoseguy's charges dropped makes it official scientology is a dangerous cult.
an organization that disconnects people from their family is not a cult? Hmm, weird.
Also Anonymous should really be prepared for the $cifags fighting back, I wouldn't put it past them to dress up as Anon and do some illegal activity bs to cause bad light on the group.
If you don't have 100% freedom of speech - 100% say what you like, deny what you like, insult who you like freedom of speech - then you don't have freedom of speech.
Hitler believed in freedom of speech for those that agreed with him.
Firstly, you have fallen for Capitalist Propaganda that insists that we will all turn into Nazis if a few right wing extremists have their say.
Secondly, you have overlooked the fact that we already have rational fascism in power in US & UK.
Capitalism is responsible for 10s of millions of deaths worldwide. Britain starved 30 million Indians to death during their occupation. The Americans slaughtered 30 million Native Americans.
More recently, America slaughtered 2 million in Korea & 3.5 mill in Vietnam under pretexts of the Viet Minh being 'agents of Moscow', Britain & America helped Suharto slaughter 1 million people in Indonesia to open up their markets to Capitalism, the CIA & MI6 sending him death lists.
Ronald Reagan's covert wars killed 2-300,000 people throughout Latin America in the 80's (& we are talking real brutal mutilation style).
US & Britain supported Saddam throughout the gassing of the Kurds.
The Nato countries ALL sent chemical precursors (Rumsfeld okayed anthrax shimpments) to Saddam during the '84-'86 gassings, gave diplomatic support to Iraq when Iran alerted the UN to the Halabja gassings in '88 & then continued supporting Saddam till the early 90's till he invaded oil rich Kuwait.
US/UK led sanctions killed 1.3 million in Iraq, then the latest war has killed 1 million also.
On the subject of US sanctions against Iraq: Madelaine Albright said the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children were 'a price worth paying'!
That's an American official (in a liberal 'democracy') saying the deaths of 500,000 children are worth the price of containing a random dictator who's about as evil as other evil dictators we support, but whom do as they are told.
Now that is RATIONAL FASCISM!
With censorship you still get Nazism, but it comes in plain clothes with 'humanitarian' intent.
Does a police officer have a right to say to another "let's beat up CapitalistHolocaust" and then afterward deny it in court? If not, isn't that a curtailing of free speech?
I'm not afraid of letting nazis have free speech as long as the capitalists have the right to fight the nazis with every legal means.
As for capitalism being responsible for deaths, isn't humanity responsible for more deaths than capitalism and communism? Do you propose to eradicate humanity?
That's like arguing that the US has "no concept" of separation of church and state because there because the government sponsors faith-based initiatives.
Of course we have a concept of it- that's why there was public outrage over this decision and why it hasn't even come to court. Where do you think John Stuart Mill wrote "On Liberty"?
tom cruise is a celebrity predator for the dangerous cult of scientology. he brings in millions for the cult by grooming A-list celebrities to join scientology and thus helping the criminals continue with their crimes by hiring top lawyers. thanks tommy boy. glad to know the world is safe in your hands.
Scientology is a religion, just a relatively new one... if you think about it, it's no more silly than most other religious beliefs and practices, and whatever these Scientologists get up to, I'm sure it's not worse than what Catholic priests do to little boys... or what our friends of Islam do in the name of Allah... the list goes on and on.
Kinda. The real difference is that the Koran and Bible, along with the general religious services that go along with them are free. No one has the exclusive rights to print and distribute either texts. Cult of Scientology is all about copy writing their works and selling them for profit.
Scientology began as "The New Mental Health" and has continued to practice a form of psychiatry without a license but in a guise of religion. Although there are issues with the more orthodox religions, you can't deny that depriving people of real medication and help and replacing it with their own costly, ineffective methods has damaged peoples lives. A theological comparison between doesn't cut with Scientology because it was never intended to be a religion.
The whole thing is a tax avoidance and health regulation evasion scam. Hubbard was in a running battle with the Feds over CoS tax and regulation right up until a judge called them a religion, that's why sea org exists. One odious thing about CoS are the systematic lies to hide their misconduct which a simple glance at their record makes clear. The most recent example is the online video they submitted as evidence of anonymous threats but in a higher quality format than any available online.
Wtf? What kind of half-assed law is that? You can't express your personal views of an organization if they are offensive to that organization.....What part of Freedom of Speech does that not infringe on? Does Britain have no Supreme Court to null such boogies laws?
Only if the dangerous cult members would be insulted. Yes it is idiotic. Someone probably made a complaint, and the police acted, the courts will toss it, a judge in the UK has already said they're a dangerous cult from the bench/bar.
How can they get a quote from "someone from anonymous" when the membership requirements are limited to "saying you're from anonymous" regardless of whether you actually are? Is there a contact number for anonymous? Wouldn't that make them _not_ anonymous?
I'm pretty sure there's no cult that would actually use that word to describe itself, so the question itself is broken. This is exactly the point- that no cult will admit to being one, as in the case of Scientology. Which is why it's important to have the right to point it out to others, which is what this case is all about.
Preposterous law to try to bar someone from stating an opinion. UK is a great country, but they need to squeeze these attitudes out of their legal system.
The universities in the US do that a lot, yeah. Speech codes etc. But the federal government doesn't have much to say about free speech except for on the public airwaves. For example, they would very much like to ban the nazis and the KKK, and the Westboro Phelps guys, but they are still allowed to spread their hate.
Well, speech is either free or it's not. Can't have it both ways. Unfortunately, the US continues to tighten the definitions of what's "acceptable" free speech and what's not. The US sense of "entitlement to a life free of personal offense" is polluting and corrupting the foundations of the constitution to such an extent that the repercussions of a two-second nipple exposure on TV four years ago are STILL being felt, mostly because of the outcry of an entrenched minority with a religious agenda.
The boob incient was a clear violation of the content ratings on airwaves which are government controlled anyway. It violated the viewers' rights and there was no statement made - no speech as such except for "ha ha we're a big mulitmillion entertainment business - screw the rules".
Campus speech codes on the other hand are censoring students in class rooms which should be open for the exchange of ideas, and in the privacy in their dorm rooms. That's a MUCH bigger concern.
It's all suppression of free speech, no matter where or when. The prioritization of different types of free speech based on objective assessments of "importance", "decency" or "validity" (usually made by whichever minority shouts the loudest) is precisely what's destroying free speech in the first place. The 'boob incident' would have been just an amusing footnote if free speech were truly free, and that's just one example. Sorry, but you can't pick and choose. Free speech is free speech.
If you go try shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre, go to a battered women safe house with a sign saying "secret battered women safe house", or if you break into a live children's TV program and whip out your penis and start masturbating on camera - well, you'll never have your brand of free speech.
You might say that your free speech rights are violated because you can't get a free hour on TV to sing the porn song - but you would be wrong. It's important to stay vigilant without crying wolf.
That's a false syllogism. Naturally, the right to express one's opinion or artistic vision is bordered at the violation of young children and the endangerment of life. The fact is, however, that religious types (for instance) do their very best to equate something as simple as nipple exposure to just that- violation of children and endangerment of life. It's scaremongering nonsense like that which gives power to the lobbies that wish to silence us. Bottom line- Free speech is free speech.
Now you're contradicting yourself. There's no problem with you going out in an abandoned forrest, getting naked and running around screaming death theats and racism; if you're in the USA you can even publish a blatantly racist magazine with your naked self on the cover. But when you show surprise boobs on a TV show that is rated "no boobs or full frontal nudity" and which is shown in peoples' living room you're doing something akin to running naked in somebody's back yard.
The danger of listening is that you might hear something you don't like. That's the responsibility of every person with free will. You're basically saying that free speech is fine as long as nobody hears it, which makes no sense at all. People's right to silence what they don't like should extend no further than their own ears, and certainly not all the way to the mouth of those that offend them. The problem is that some people decide on everyone else's behalf what should and shouldn't be heard.
A TV rating is a bit like putting up a sign saying "please no naked people in my yard". If they want to show tits on TV that's fine as long as they don't give it a misleading rating. I'm saying free speech is fine as long as you give people a choice about if they want to hear it - except of course for very important messages that are of burning urgency to tell people about.
Hi, this discussion is about what Britain is doing. I made no comparison b/t Britain and the USA. What the US does or doesn't do also does not legitimize what Britain does. You fail.
You "shamed" the UK for doing what the US does in much greater measure, much more frequently. Since you LIVE in the US, that pretty much makes you a stone thrower in a much much larger glass house. Freedom of speech occasionally gets stepped on no matter where you are, but nobody does it like America.
In america, we allow people to put whatever they want on their signs. Some restrictions apply.*
*As long as it doesn't reference anything to do with government or Bush, where you will be swiftly taken to guantanamo and waterboarded for being a terrorist.
You can say anything you want about the government or Bush, in most cases you can even threaten to kill him but if you do that there is a chance that the Secret Service comes to interview you to make sure if you are a homocidal maniac or just a regular run of the mill maniac. To get your free trip to Guantanamo and the culturally sensitive meals you need to fight in Afghanistan or something, and even then the chance of waterboarding is almost nil. You are more likely to be killed in battle.
Your problem is that you think I'm giving the US a pass by criticizing the UK. I'm am not in any way doing that. But we're talking about the UK. I admit that the USA is terrible at times about freedom of speech and rights. But the UK right now is demonstrating a trend to appease religious groups for fear of causing backlash instead of protecting individual rights. That's what the discussion is here, not what the USA does or does not do. You are trying to redirect the discussion.
"But the UK right now is demonstrating a trend to appease religious groups for fear of causing backlash instead of protecting individual rights." YES. JUST LIKE THE STATES HAS EVERY DAY FOR DECADES. You keep singling out the UK, as though this issue doesn't reach outside the UK, which it obviously does. It's like saying "It's wrong that the UK has capital punishment." The discussion is freedom of speech and the absurd power of the religious lobby, period. Don't dilute the issue with nationalism.
Poor LilJimmy. I didn't single out the UK, the BBC article that is of discussion here is. I've already leveled with you about the US, but you insist on continually talking about it. There are plenty of videos on YouTube proving your point so why don't you go post in one of those videos and we'll talk about the UK in this thread. The only one who is diluting this argument to nationalism is you by redirecting the subject to lessen the guilt of the UK's crimes. That doesn't work, it's a fallacy.
Well done m8!!!

What else can they do? Nothing. It's over.

charges against epicnoseguy has been dropped. it shouldnt have gone to court in the first place. this goes to show how dangerous cult of scientology is to a free society. image if dangerous cult of scientology infiltrated the governments or if tom cruise recruited enough rich people to fund them. that is some really scary shit. epicnoseguy's charges dropped makes it official scientology is a dangerous cult.

If you don't have 100% freedom of speech - 100% say what you like, deny what you like, insult who you like freedom of speech - then you don't have freedom of speech.
Hitler believed in freedom of speech for those that agreed with him.
CapitalistHolocaust 3 years ago
So you'd rather have nazism than even the slightest government obstruction of holocaust denial?
gunnarre 3 years ago
Firstly, you have fallen for Capitalist Propaganda that insists that we will all turn into Nazis if a few right wing extremists have their say.
Secondly, you have overlooked the fact that we already have rational fascism in power in US & UK.
Capitalism is responsible for 10s of millions of deaths worldwide. Britain starved 30 million Indians to death during their occupation. The Americans slaughtered 30 million Native Americans.
CapitalistHolocaust 3 years ago
More recently, America slaughtered 2 million in Korea & 3.5 mill in Vietnam under pretexts of the Viet Minh being 'agents of Moscow', Britain & America helped Suharto slaughter 1 million people in Indonesia to open up their markets to Capitalism, the CIA & MI6 sending him death lists.
Ronald Reagan's covert wars killed 2-300,000 people throughout Latin America in the 80's (& we are talking real brutal mutilation style).
US & Britain supported Saddam throughout the gassing of the Kurds.
CapitalistHolocaust 3 years ago
The Nato countries ALL sent chemical precursors (Rumsfeld okayed anthrax shimpments) to Saddam during the '84-'86 gassings, gave diplomatic support to Iraq when Iran alerted the UN to the Halabja gassings in '88 & then continued supporting Saddam till the early 90's till he invaded oil rich Kuwait.
US/UK led sanctions killed 1.3 million in Iraq, then the latest war has killed 1 million also.
CapitalistHolocaust 3 years ago
On the subject of US sanctions against Iraq: Madelaine Albright said the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children were 'a price worth paying'!
That's an American official (in a liberal 'democracy') saying the deaths of 500,000 children are worth the price of containing a random dictator who's about as evil as other evil dictators we support, but whom do as they are told.
Now that is RATIONAL FASCISM!
With censorship you still get Nazism, but it comes in plain clothes with 'humanitarian' intent.
CapitalistHolocaust 3 years ago
Does a police officer have a right to say to another "let's beat up CapitalistHolocaust" and then afterward deny it in court? If not, isn't that a curtailing of free speech?
I'm not afraid of letting nazis have free speech as long as the capitalists have the right to fight the nazis with every legal means.
As for capitalism being responsible for deaths, isn't humanity responsible for more deaths than capitalism and communism? Do you propose to eradicate humanity?
gunnarre 3 years ago
wow, britain has some ridiculous laws.. they have no concept of free speech over there.
historywillabsolve 3 years ago
That's like arguing that the US has "no concept" of separation of church and state because there because the government sponsors faith-based initiatives.
Of course we have a concept of it- that's why there was public outrage over this decision and why it hasn't even come to court. Where do you think John Stuart Mill wrote "On Liberty"?

Scientology is a religion, just a relatively new one... if you think about it, it's no more silly than most other religious beliefs and practices, and whatever these Scientologists get up to, I'm sure it's not worse than what Catholic priests do to little boys... or what our friends of Islam do in the name of Allah... the list goes on and on.

Yay, one intelligent comment.
Prathik1989 3 years ago
Kinda. The real difference is that the Koran and Bible, along with the general religious services that go along with them are free. No one has the exclusive rights to print and distribute either texts. Cult of Scientology is all about copy writing their works and selling them for profit.
pandaoflove 3 years ago 6
Scientology began as "The New Mental Health" and has continued to practice a form of psychiatry without a license but in a guise of religion. Although there are issues with the more orthodox religions, you can't deny that depriving people of real medication and help and replacing it with their own costly, ineffective methods has damaged peoples lives. A theological comparison between doesn't cut with Scientology because it was never intended to be a religion.
RationalResponsive 3 years ago 8
The whole thing is a tax avoidance and health regulation evasion scam. Hubbard was in a running battle with the Feds over CoS tax and regulation right up until a judge called them a religion, that's why sea org exists. One odious thing about CoS are the systematic lies to hide their misconduct which a simple glance at their record makes clear. The most recent example is the online video they submitted as evidence of anonymous threats but in a higher quality format than any available online.

How can they get a quote from "someone from anonymous" when the membership requirements are limited to "saying you're from anonymous" regardless of whether you actually are? Is there a contact number for anonymous? Wouldn't that make them _not_ anonymous?
ablestmage 3 years ago 5
What if they really are a cult? Wouldn't this same law still apply, prohibiting calling a cult a cult?
elcapitanp 3 years ago 5
I'm pretty sure there's no cult that would actually use that word to describe itself, so the question itself is broken. This is exactly the point- that no cult will admit to being one, as in the case of Scientology. Which is why it's important to have the right to point it out to others, which is what this case is all about.

Shame on Britain for putting hurt feelings over free speech. Enjoy your thought control.
SoomPrimal 3 years ago
Yeah, because the US NEVER does that, right?
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago
The universities in the US do that a lot, yeah. Speech codes etc. But the federal government doesn't have much to say about free speech except for on the public airwaves. For example, they would very much like to ban the nazis and the KKK, and the Westboro Phelps guys, but they are still allowed to spread their hate.
gunnarre 3 years ago
Well, speech is either free or it's not. Can't have it both ways. Unfortunately, the US continues to tighten the definitions of what's "acceptable" free speech and what's not. The US sense of "entitlement to a life free of personal offense" is polluting and corrupting the foundations of the constitution to such an extent that the repercussions of a two-second nipple exposure on TV four years ago are STILL being felt, mostly because of the outcry of an entrenched minority with a religious agenda.
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago 3
The boob incient was a clear violation of the content ratings on airwaves which are government controlled anyway. It violated the viewers' rights and there was no statement made - no speech as such except for "ha ha we're a big mulitmillion entertainment business - screw the rules".
Campus speech codes on the other hand are censoring students in class rooms which should be open for the exchange of ideas, and in the privacy in their dorm rooms. That's a MUCH bigger concern.
gunnarre 3 years ago
It's all suppression of free speech, no matter where or when. The prioritization of different types of free speech based on objective assessments of "importance", "decency" or "validity" (usually made by whichever minority shouts the loudest) is precisely what's destroying free speech in the first place. The 'boob incident' would have been just an amusing footnote if free speech were truly free, and that's just one example. Sorry, but you can't pick and choose. Free speech is free speech.
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago 2
If you go try shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre, go to a battered women safe house with a sign saying "secret battered women safe house", or if you break into a live children's TV program and whip out your penis and start masturbating on camera - well, you'll never have your brand of free speech.
You might say that your free speech rights are violated because you can't get a free hour on TV to sing the porn song - but you would be wrong. It's important to stay vigilant without crying wolf.
gunnarre 3 years ago
That was stupid, thanks for waisting 6 seconds of my life.
Swanree 3 years ago
That's a false syllogism. Naturally, the right to express one's opinion or artistic vision is bordered at the violation of young children and the endangerment of life. The fact is, however, that religious types (for instance) do their very best to equate something as simple as nipple exposure to just that- violation of children and endangerment of life. It's scaremongering nonsense like that which gives power to the lobbies that wish to silence us. Bottom line- Free speech is free speech.
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago
Now you're contradicting yourself. There's no problem with you going out in an abandoned forrest, getting naked and running around screaming death theats and racism; if you're in the USA you can even publish a blatantly racist magazine with your naked self on the cover. But when you show surprise boobs on a TV show that is rated "no boobs or full frontal nudity" and which is shown in peoples' living room you're doing something akin to running naked in somebody's back yard.
gunnarre 3 years ago
The danger of listening is that you might hear something you don't like. That's the responsibility of every person with free will. You're basically saying that free speech is fine as long as nobody hears it, which makes no sense at all. People's right to silence what they don't like should extend no further than their own ears, and certainly not all the way to the mouth of those that offend them. The problem is that some people decide on everyone else's behalf what should and shouldn't be heard.
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago
A TV rating is a bit like putting up a sign saying "please no naked people in my yard". If they want to show tits on TV that's fine as long as they don't give it a misleading rating. I'm saying free speech is fine as long as you give people a choice about if they want to hear it - except of course for very important messages that are of burning urgency to tell people about.
gunnarre 3 years ago
Hi, this discussion is about what Britain is doing. I made no comparison b/t Britain and the USA. What the US does or doesn't do also does not legitimize what Britain does. You fail.
SoomPrimal 3 years ago
You "shamed" the UK for doing what the US does in much greater measure, much more frequently. Since you LIVE in the US, that pretty much makes you a stone thrower in a much much larger glass house. Freedom of speech occasionally gets stepped on no matter where you are, but nobody does it like America.
So, as failure goes, you set the standard.
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago
In america, we allow people to put whatever they want on their signs. Some restrictions apply.*
*As long as it doesn't reference anything to do with government or Bush, where you will be swiftly taken to guantanamo and waterboarded for being a terrorist.
argaen21 3 years ago
You can say anything you want about the government or Bush, in most cases you can even threaten to kill him but if you do that there is a chance that the Secret Service comes to interview you to make sure if you are a homocidal maniac or just a regular run of the mill maniac. To get your free trip to Guantanamo and the culturally sensitive meals you need to fight in Afghanistan or something, and even then the chance of waterboarding is almost nil. You are more likely to be killed in battle.
gunnarre 3 years ago
Your problem is that you think I'm giving the US a pass by criticizing the UK. I'm am not in any way doing that. But we're talking about the UK. I admit that the USA is terrible at times about freedom of speech and rights. But the UK right now is demonstrating a trend to appease religious groups for fear of causing backlash instead of protecting individual rights. That's what the discussion is here, not what the USA does or does not do. You are trying to redirect the discussion.
SoomPrimal 3 years ago
"But the UK right now is demonstrating a trend to appease religious groups for fear of causing backlash instead of protecting individual rights." YES. JUST LIKE THE STATES HAS EVERY DAY FOR DECADES. You keep singling out the UK, as though this issue doesn't reach outside the UK, which it obviously does. It's like saying "It's wrong that the UK has capital punishment." The discussion is freedom of speech and the absurd power of the religious lobby, period. Don't dilute the issue with nationalism.
LilJimmyNordin 3 years ago
Poor LilJimmy. I didn't single out the UK, the BBC article that is of discussion here is. I've already leveled with you about the US, but you insist on continually talking about it. There are plenty of videos on YouTube proving your point so why don't you go post in one of those videos and we'll talk about the UK in this thread. The only one who is diluting this argument to nationalism is you by redirecting the subject to lessen the guilt of the UK's crimes. That doesn't work, it's a fallacy.
