Sambo needs your voice! She is an elephant used for rides in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She is lame and in VERY ill health. DO NOT RIDE HER! Her owner prospers off her. He has sent 4 children to college, one in the U.S. Documentation here: tiny[dot]cc[slash]ForSambo
Please join the many wanting to end her abuse. There's a petition you can sign to help Sambo and other elephants – Google: retire-sambo-ban-elephants-in-phnom-pehn
Thank you for wanting to help! Please spread the word.
My ride was bumpy as well! I rode elephants in Thailand Dec 07. Probably won't do it again after I heard about the abuse that some of them go thru. But Hey, at least I can say I've rode one! =) Lovely elephants too!
When large benches like this are put on the backs of elephants, and tourists pile on them for rides, it is bad for the elephants' backs. It causes painful sores, and can even permanently damage them. Please don't support this practice by paying for this kind of elephant ride. See an elephant sanctuary instead and educate yourself while helping elephants instead of exploiting them.
i take your message close to heart and feel badly for doing it in the first place. I want to say, in my defense, that our study-abroad class was doing it, and unless I made a point by walking behind the elephants to the temple (making the teacher mad), i had no other option, but that's kind of a bad excuse.
Next time I wouldn't do it, because of what u said.
That's ok, you didn't know; I didn't know myself until just recently. At least you know now to spread the word to everyone else you know.
You can also learn about how badly elephants and other animals are treated in circuses, etc. There are some good videos right here on UTube about it, and some good websites.
