I dont think you should expect them to give you anything for free . I guess in a perfect world what she said would be right but.... in reality they have to make money to stay in business and pay photographers and make up artist to help you make a nice portfolio and hopefully get you a job.

When I was in my last year at school 2 of my mates decided to go for modelling jobs. Nice guys, but models? No way! But they went to an agency who told them what thet wanted to hear and got them to pay a lot of cash for a portfolio. Then my friends waited for the calls to come in. They're still waiting. The agency made a load of cash for doing absolutely nothing!

soo, i have a question. I live in a small-ish town with only 2 agencies. The first one is a huuuuge scam, and the second i went to and they want to sign me. They said, all the models there take their picture for their card with this one photographer who comes here every 6 weeks. It will cost me 495 for 3 looks (stylist/wardrobe/etc included). Sound like a scam? I hope not.. :/

@annabelle1218 Photoshop completly takes care of that acne problem... if it isn't too bad (bad as in entire face is covered by acne) and as for braces, you should probably wait to get those taken off before you begin modeling.

You told it like it is ! Thanks for letting the other lady's know. Its competitive enough in the photography business without scammers and smooth talkers giving us a bad reputation. A good suggestion for girls on a budget. Check out your local colleges that offer advanced photography courses. They are always looking for models. It gives you a chance to trade your time for pictures and for young up and coming artist an opportunity to work with beautiful subjects.

Aaaha, my mother made me go to 'modelling classes' when I was like 15 or 16...even at 15 I could immediately see it was total crap. They took my photos at the end of the 'semester' - which I could have took myself - I'm pretty plain looking anyway - then they told me I'm unfortunately 5cm too short to be a model!! Of course they weren't gona tell me that from the get go!

Also, one thing that may happen (don't quote me on this) to help you build a portfolio or at least get practice is to ask your local college if the students need any models for photo class projects. At least one course will have a fashion element to it, and you can ask to see them. Plus, it's free.
