  • bbc natural history unit + david attenborough = beneficial partnership

  • nice video.. thats a very benificial relationship... :)

  • I thought those birds were pretty cool until he said what they really want is their hosts blood.

  • lol the only thing the birds dont do is make a nest on the host themselves...

  • Who need anti-dandruff shampoo when you have birds that eat it?

  • All animals live in harmony with other animals...except us :(

  • In a very similar way humans also partnered with other animals. We domesticated wild horses, cattle or water buffalos to help us with transport, as draft animals on the field or for providing us with milk & meat. Dogs helped us during hunts or protected our camps.

But when agriculture appeared, then granaries attracted the evil Jerry the mouse looking for grains to eat, so Tom the cat came to the rescue! And now few thousand years later the YouTube is filled with cat videos :D

  • Kropotkin would definetly use this as an example for his works.

  • wow those birds seem hella annoying

  • 11 creationists should stop slowing down the emotional evolution of man.

  • dont let this documentary seem so decieving oxpeckers will eat the flesh of the animals if the wound is open. It can go parasitic

  • I've watched nature documentaries all my life and Sir David's voice just helps make them even better for me. I love how after all these years he can still get so enthusiastic about the wild life being filmed.

  • Big animal + small animal = friends :D

  • This is proof that morals (treat others how you want to be treated) do not come from holy books, but are innate in us.

  • @ExtremeBogom Not really. They are innate in some animals and some members of a species, but not in others. Goes for humans and animals all the same.My question is what gives morals to one, but not the other.

  • @ExtremeBogom I don't think they even know. Birds and some sea animals are very intelligent as well. And yes, I'm writing to your removed comment. You didn't need to remove it. There was nothing wrong with it.

  • @vgman94

I only removed it because I made a spelling mistake :p.

I just wrote it again with the correction.

  • @ExtremeBogom Oh, I see. But I never saw the comment go through. I don't find your new comment on this page.

  • friends with benefits

  • sir david ur wording an knowledge on nature is a gift....thank you for the insight on nature, its how u phrase it makes it so influencial,,well for me...he makes u wanna know more...long live Sir DA

  • It'd be annoying having little birds walking and pecking all over your body.

  • @MissRLA

it would be more annoying having biting insects crawling around which could not be removed.

  • 2:52 - LOL .. looks like it goes IN the ear and out the other side and pops out.. "Helloo!"

  • man this birds should put up some salon

  • Haha, capibara surfing!

  • What's the name of that bird????

  • It's an Oxpecker

  • what,.?

    that capybara is a rodent,.?

    damn it's huge,..

i wonder,..if they are from the family of rats or rodents do they reproduce as fast as the rats or rabbits,.?

  • oh how cute they are all cute!!

  • I´m from Finland and i´ve seen much of these documents in Finnish TV Channels. We don´t even have Discovery channel.

  • i want discovery channel to show this life undergrowth again its best ever on discovery channel and DAVID U R GREAT U JUST ALWAYS BLOWS ME HOW LIFE IS GOING IN THIS WORLD

    PLS AGAIN IN INDIA

  • ha! they eat ear wax, blood and dandruf and mate on top of other animals...wow we live in a world full of strange creatures :)

  • One more thing, if you don't like what you see, DON'T give a sorry-ass coment. This is nature at its best.. It's REAL LIFE.. geeze...

  • Yeah, they dip into the blood. But its natures way of keeping the HOSTS and HOSTIES disease free.

  • @robotpanda77 i was thinking the same thing!

  • That was really cool to see. Until the bloodsucking part.

  • a giant hamster!!!

  • 3:01-3:02 peekaboo

  • LOL! that part was funny ;p

  • Mmmm... blood bloated ticks, ear wax, dandruff and open wounds. What a delicous diet.

  • Those birds are after the hosts blood! :O

  • The faces of the capibaras remind me a little of beavers for some reason. Is that just me?

  • Sure, both beavers and capibaras are rodents at any rate.

  • You thought it's all love and friendship to begin with, and then you realize how dark and sinister the world really is

  • what for good birds they help the zebras

  • i think they dont eat blood but they open the wound so that infection may not occur

  • Actually blood is an Ox Peckers most loved food. They eat ticks bloated with blood but will peck and push their beck into an aniamls wound to get the blood

  • It has been proven they like the taste of blood by people watching them peak the animals whose back they are cleaning.

  • why would they do that? there's no evidence of altruism in that kind of relationship. I don't think the bird could care less about the animal's infection.

  • shut up!!!

  • he can't get the bird off of him.

  • Comment removed

  • cant believe the bird flew into its ear -__-

  • Wow, capibaras are crazy looking, like a cross between a cat and a groundhog... and maybe a camel...

  • capibaras are the largest rodents on earth.

    just gigantic rats.

  • Yeah, they're rodents, doesn't mean they can't be cool-looking.

  • A quasi-parasitic relationship for the host. It is revealed only at the end. Great posting BBC.

  • what does the capibara get in return?

  • capibara tastes like hell

  • what a coniving little bird! i guess is still uselful tho.

  • What was the music used in the first clip? The classical music, i mean.

  • The music for Attenborough programs is usually written specifically for them. I think you can get soundtrack CDs from the BBC.

  • Where can I get an oxpecker?

  • My thoughts exactly

  • real hard work

  • Lol superfisto, yeah that'd be handy, I don't think i'd want one mating on my frickin head though! Oh well whatever pushes your buttons I guess...

  • i wish birds would land on my head and take care of my dandruff

  • muito legal.....os seres humanos tem muito que aprender com os animais....com a mãe natureza....fico muito triste quando descubro o quanto insensíveis somos....

  • Thats kinda wierd lol ... little birds eating ticks, earwax and dandruff.

  • looks very nice, best for children, thank you for this wonderful video

  • How would you like two birds mating on your back? O_o

  • Amazing.

  • >yo need a ride ôo then hop on<

    xD hahah

  • LOL! Head surfing, cool.

  • Earwax, dandruff and blood - the breakfast of champions!
