That song touch the heart of my ants (16 of them, only 4 left) 50 years ago. Although they were french, they learned the song listening to the radio. This summer we are paying a last tribute to the ones still living and "Vaya con Dios" is part of the repertoire.
"Vaya Con Dios", Go with God. When I courting my Dan, we heard this version and it was "our song" forever after. It also became a little catch phrase between us, a reminder that no matter what was happening in our lives, God was always with us, holding us in His hand, keeping us in His love. We had 20 beautiful years together before he passed on. It will be 10 years this December. I sitll miss him, but this song brings him back to my heart each time. Thank you.
I learned this song in Spanish in 1953 - search utube for Trio Los Panchos Vaya Con Dios. This is the only English version that does it justice! Hard to believe that when this was popular I was in the three-building town of Sedona, Arizona, dancing to the strains of Les Paul and Mary Ford.
This is a beautiful serene song sung by this great artist Mary Ford and the superb guitarist Les Paul.....What a lovely surprise to see Paul McCartney in one of the photo's.
I came from this era, Les Paul was & Died as the best Guitar Player in the world with Chet Atkins right behind Him. Les & Mary recorded many Beuatiful songs during their time and it is still pleasent to hear them sing these songs.
les-paul could never remarry . . . one could see it in his eyes.
i remember my mom used to hum this song. she had this song in her 45's singles. one of my favorites. even though i never told her - i thought mary-ford had it "going on".
all the best to the past. all the past to the best. we love you both, lp / mf . . . god bless.
This fabulous song is always going to sound brilliant who ever performs it. It brings out all the best qualities in all the performers. They would have to be totally useless if this was to sound less then brilliant. This is one of my favourites and these artists I have only discovered today for me...I think are absolutely fantastic. The female artist is one of the best singers I have ever encountered with a beautiful clear smooth golden voice. The guitarist is in a league of his own brilliant
Another fantastic version of this song is by Connie Francis on her Latin American Favorites album. It's all in spanish, and is a tear jerker for sure. Totally different versions, both absolutely incredible...even if you dont speak spanish. The spanish translation of this song is VERY sad...
Around 1953, the only one I have ever been in love with, played this for me on the coffee shop juke-box at the NAS Airport in Guam, (before he was shipped out). He died a few years later of Polio. But I have known real love spiritually with him ever since, because of Vaya con Dios, and LesP & MaryF. Although servicemen, we didn't "ask" and didn't "tell"! We just knew our love in our hearts, and this recording confirmed it! Thanks to all who made it possible to tell my story, finally.
@jbojet100 Bless you and your love. I hope someday you will be reunited and this song will be in the air for you. Until then, think of him and know that Don't Ask Don't Tell is history and our gay & lesbian service member can finally be themselves.
Les and Mary divorced, but remained close friends. And, yes...Les never remarried, but had some flings. She was not only a great singer, but a fantastic person. She is, and has been sorely missed by this one. Vaya con Dios, Mary. Vaya con Dios, Les. Mucho amor.
Happy Birthday to Lee paul. thank you for making all the beautiful songs with Mary Ford. I grown up in Taiwan with your music when I was a little girl in the 50's God bless you.
THIS WAS A FAVORITE OF MY GRAND MOTHER AND YES SHE WAS A GRAND MOTHER LOVED BY ALL WHO KNEW HER SO HERE.S TO YOU NELLIE MALENA,GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN XOXO..
I remember hearing Les Paul tell a disc jockey about how when Vaya Con Dios was released, all the DJs played the B-side, Johnny is the Boy for Me, because Les wrote it. He had to call them and beg them to turn the record over because he knew this was the real hit.
Mary Ford, a professional singer when she met Les Paul, worked with him for a few years before their marriage. Without Les paul, her career would not have reached the level it did even though she worked with other greats such as Gene Autry and sang in various big bands popular at the time. Her beautiful voice remains unmatched even today and added much to Les's career. She died at age 53 of diabetic complications and is greatly missed by her fans. Les Paul never remarried.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. Beautiful melody, beautiful words, beautiful voice...and let's not forget the fabulous guitar playing!
