@milko511 I'm more familar with Kicker than Alpine. But I actually thought 12" Alpine Type R's we're 500RMS and 1000 PEAK? But when you add a good box, wires, and a nice matching amp, I bet you"ll get another 100 or so watts.

idk why but i'm actually a big fan of sealed boxes. keeps the pressure on the sub, lets you give it more power. i had 2 kicker l7 15s in a sealed box and it honestly wasn't as loud when i got a big ported one for em.

in my old SQ car i had 4 alpine type r 12's in a custom slot ported box, i ran a jbl bp 1200.1 TO EACH SUB at 2 ohms, that is 1200+ watts rms to each sub and never blew one even in spl competitions!!! they would get really hot though!!!! haha and i am in no way a big alpine fan but they can take some power even though they are only rated for 500 rms.

Thats solid! I have just one Type R with the 500 watt rms Alpine amp and that even hits hard. Cant imagine having 2 Type R's with the 1000 rms amp!

oh these can be heard from a few blocks for sure...i have 2 of these ran by a kenwood 1800 watt amp...there max is 500rms so 900 real watts are coming from the amp, so 450 to each one....im in it to win it. ive gotten 2 noise ordinance tickets though...gotta pay the price to bang

That's true, but sealed boxes have better response than ported ones. It's all preference; neither one is better than the other at every application.

I would say sealed would be better KMScarboy. Mainly because of the responsiveness. Sure a ported box WILL be louder and overpower the music more, but it blends bass together alot, and with rap that doesn't matter but with rock you really don't want all the bass blending together; especially with fast double bass songs. Plus with a sealed box you'll give up some loudness for better tone. I have two 12" Type R's in a sealed box and they still hit VERY hard. Like i said b4 it's all preference.

if you listen to alot of rock..i would put them in a sealed box.. sealed boxes always sound good for rock but then again they pound for rap too...just make sure that the box has enough air space cuz you dont want to smother em cuz then they will sound like shit..

Dude i have sealed and ported and im running

2 Alpine Type R's Dual Coil, with 2 mono Mrp 500. 1 amp per sub. I would say the ported is louder by far, but you do not get as much of a tight sound. I like the chest penetrating feeling. =P
