NCLB should be scraped! Frankly some should be left behind! Then their parents need to become active participants in the childs education instead of relying on school as a free babysitting service.
NEA has done nothing for those of us that have been laid off. No help finding another job. No help with retrainning programs. No help with administration or politicians to save our jobs.
You certainly have done a great job helping unqualified teachers. You have done a great job giving $ to politicians that don't care and $ to elections that push a social agenda and do not have a thing to do with education.
Thank God me and hubby have decided to homeschool our 10 yr old. I don't blame the teachers at all. It's this NCLB mess. Our son started school ahead when he was in K (reading on a 1st grade level and was awsome in math), well he's now reading on a 2-3 rd grade level and his Math sucks :-(
Thanks to the teachers who spoke out about the problems that already existed before Bush signed the NCLB in 2001, and kids were coming into classes for the first time where they could be held back if they weren't ready to go to the next grade. I must mention that many students had no reason to try since they would passed to the next grade anyway. Clinton endorsed the ending of "Social Promotion." Then to slap these ridiculous tests on kids already behind is an insult to everybody's intelligence.
NCLB DID NOT PROTECT MY 11 YEAR OLD SON TO GET AN APPROPICIATE EDUCATION FROM THE PUBLIC SYSTEM ETC. MORE STUDENTS ARE FAILING. AND ARE LEFT BEHIND. ESPECIALLY THE POOR MALES AND LOW PREFORMING SCHOOLS.Where the NCLB budget is cut every year!!
Warning: Watch out for growth standards P-12, P-13, P-16, and P-20 Councils. Follow the money and ask, "Who profits?" Answer: The testing and publishing companies as well the school superintendents, not the students or teachers.
I ask, "When will the citizens of this country quit teacher bashing?" If you can read this, thank your teachers!
But how do you get these kids in the inner city to EVEN go to class. I watch the doc. on HBO and they had kids that would not even go to their classes. You can not blame the teacher.
I think it's funny how so many people who have never set foot in the classroom think they know how to solve all of "education's issues." NCLB undermines my professionalism and reduces higher level, creative problem solving. Would an employer ever hire someone to a sales position based on his score on one multiple choice test? I think not.
All NCLB is about is MONEY. Testing is big business, and that's what it's all about. Teachers spend the last two months of the school year giving one test after another. That means the children have a full two months of school where there is no major instruction going on. Get rid of NCLB.
By the looks of the responses to this video, most people do not understand what is going on in public schools at all. Education for all is great, but NCLB ensures mediocrity for all.
But you have to understand that these standardized tests are culturally insensitive to the needs of many diverse students. Students, like adults, are INDIVIDUALS who posess indivuduality. So mediocrity in the sense of this issue is a completely overestimated word!
Teachers dont fail students, instead parents, politicians, the media, and all the critics leave children behind. Everyone is against a modern teacher. The media promontes ignorance, political legislation promotes scantron mutliple choice tests, and critics offer disrespect for those fighting ignorance, america and democracy (teachers) but never step into a high school classroom. You Sir should step up and do something. Im sure you have a lot more to offer our future generation.
WHAT?! All teachers do is take responsibility. We are responsible for everything. I have spent hundreds of dollars since I have been teaching buying school supplies, clothes, and food fro my students. I take time to watch their sporting events and extra curricular activities. I tutor students after school free of charge 3 days a week.
Then empower kids to learn how to be entrepreneurs early on in life. Schools should teach the subject, after all these kids are either going to work for a company (profit or non profit) or create their own path by owning businesses. Let's really teach them real life lessons. Why do we still have to follow the industrial age style of education while we are in digital, service- oriented age?
Policy makers, pay attention! Few teachers favor NCLB. NLCB policies sound good but structure, implementation, outcomes = abominable. Accountability = good feature of NCLB, but is a moving target. Schools can't control student population changes, which skews test results, so schools are evaluated to some degree by the luck of the draw. Trace each individual student's progress instead--but not at federal level.
Typical psychobabble. Especially the part about ELL. How about intensive preparation to teach the students english. Then test how quickly they progress. Thise that do not show ability should be provided extra help to learn english. Let's also enlist the aid of their parents to learn english too! The sooner the better.

SAY AMEN!!! Boy, the Teacher's Unions must be loving this Propaganda Rant.
"Nobody respects me", "this is an attack on teachers", WHAAAAAAAA!!
There is a very good reason why people disrespect public education, IT SUCKS!
What is the HS dropout rate for the US?
What is the literacy rate for HS grads?
What are the SAT and ACT scores, as compared to 20 years ago?
Are teachers make more money every year, in failing schools?
You must EARN respect!

my son is a dyslexia 504 accommodations students who is two grades behind. He have taken the leap test 3 or more times, still have not progress!
Why are children with a learning disability taking the same leap test with normal students who do not have 504, or dyslexia etc
The NCLB LAW NEEDS SOME SERIOUS CHANGES!!!

Not that I am an NEA person in the least, but funny how that union has remained silent on what we teachers deal with regarding NCLB....

NCLB was named incorrectly. No Child Left Behind should have been called No Child Gets Ahead, since this is its result and likely its intention.

The NCLB Act is a bad one based on faulty premises. REPEAL the NCLB Act.

Education was problematic before NCLB.
When will the education community take responsibility for what is going on in the classroom.
