Don't get me wrong, Matt Freeman is a hell of a bass player, but Flea is definitely better. And if Flea has mastered the funk-slap style, I can guarantee that he can play the punk style just as well.

have you ever heard the operation ivy unreleased energy bootlegs? its when they tried to record energy live at gilman, and matt plays a FUCK load of slap and its all amazing, he can do it man, hes amazing... thats not at all down playing flea though, because hes also fucking amazing, but i got too much love for matt.

Yes I have, but have you ever heard any of the live Chili Pepper jams from their funk/punk era? Matt definitely cannot slap like Flea. Flea is also the better performer, his live showings and jams are superior to Freeman's. And once again, I have nothing against Matt, but Flea is the master.

As a matter of fact Flea started out as a punk rock bassist with the band Fear before he joined the RHCP. Big respect to both of them BTW, Matt and Flea are my two favourite bassists.

Well Flea has played in punk bands like Fear. Even though Flea can play punk pretty well, Matt Freeman has been playing it longer and plays a lot better in this type of music.

They're too hard to compare because they have completely different styles, as do their respective bands.

In a battle of slap technique flea's gonna win, but when it comes to putting the right bass lines in a million styles of music, and walking bass lines/blazing solos, freeman wins every time
