If I am not mistaken, this is not an abscess. It is a carbuncle. Notice the circle of white dots surrounding the core? Simply lancing this will not do the trick. You have to secure the core after the puss drains and gently rotate as you gently but firmly pull up and away. While you are doing this you will see all the tentacles (or roots) disappear from the surface and come out attached to the core.
