Ofc he did. He transformed Journey from a mediocre rock band to the masters of love ballads. He pretty much wrote all of Journey's albums while he was in the band, including Escape which is their greatest album of all. I really don't think that Schon had it in him to create a band that was so successful without Steve Perry.

I understand Filipinos being very proud of Arnel since there aren't many worldwide famous except maybe for Many Pacquiao, but instead of trashing SPerry they MUST understand that Arnel is famous now because Steve skyrocketed Journey to fame, and he imitates him. I am 50+ yrs old so I witnessed Journey's glorious days, no wonder Steve was called The Voice. Arnel's fans, please thank Mr. Steve Perry for your idol's success.

Sir, you've got a good point there, but try to do some research on Arnel even before he got in to Journey. You could see him do a lot of cover songs from different american bands. Led Zep, AC/DC, Heart, Air Supply, you name it sir. He's been living his life based on legends.
And i'll be forever thankful for Mr Perry for sharing his talent to the world. I'm a filipino, and I truly admit that no one could come close to the soaring tenor, and "the voice". . =)
I'm reading a few comments on here that Steve Perry nolonger has his beautiful, soulful voice, well according to certain people who have heard him sing recently Steve Perry still has THE VOICE. As for 'Journey' it's now a tribute band.
If it wasn't for Steve Perry Neal would have been driving a garbage truck in the East Bay and collecting a Teamsters pension with a bad back. He was always a decent guitar layer but his band(s) were always missing the money mark until Perry stepped in and made all of them money, fame and admiration. Neal knows this in his heart and it galls him even today because he is a petty little man.

Don't Stop Believin po song was only #98 in UK chart for a week and gone. GLEE and new Journey Arnel Pineda brought a success to outside US.
Steve Perry didn't leave the band. Steve Perry broke his hip in Hawaii while training for his upcoming tour with Journey for the "Trial by Fire" album. The entire tour got cancelled and the record sales dropped. Neil Schon & Jonathan Cain and whoever else was involved gave steve perry an ultimatum...."Get better or we are replacing you". Steve couldn't rehab that quickly so they replaced him. Simple as that. All I know if that was me in that situation, I'd be crushed by my bandmates.

@soLuiSta Yes!!! Most respectable employers wouldn't be permitted to do what Journey did to Steve. There's no way that my employer (University of FL) could dictate when I had to get surgery. We have had many employees who've needed knee or hip replacements but it would be totally against State of FL employee rules for any supervisor to tell them they had to do it in order to keep their job. It's ridiculous, and just plain WRONG! A hip replacement is a major surgery & pretty scary to have done.

steve was both labelled a success and a failure. A success only in america and a failure outside. Journey Perry was never conquered outside US music scenes despite the rise of their popularity in the US in the 1980s.

Retarded video. OF COURSE Journey needed Perry. But Perry needed them, too. You never would have HEARD of him otherwise, and his shit *after* Journey sucks giant donkey balls. TOGETHER, they made some of the best music of the late 70s/early 80s. Let's get the facts straight. Journey had a record contract w/o SP. When SP was brought into the picture he was cleaning chicken coups and his band was dead, along with his demo recordings. NS and JC found success w/o SP. NS and JC are the song writers. SP never wrote the music for any of Journey's material. SP sat out for over a year on his hip surgery ordeal. Christ, what a pussy. Hip surgery is very common, and he had access to the best docs. The P means Pussy. Steve Pussy.

Steve said in an interview from a TV show about Journey that he really felt pressure from the other members of the band to have the hip surgery.But he felt it was his personal decision to make.Watching that particular show I saw Neal's jealousy of Steve's popularity with the fans and of Steve's involvement with other aspects of Journey. Neal thought of Journey as his band and he didn't like the idea of Steve muscling in on his domain. For me Steve can never be replaced as lead singer.

If you actually WATCHED the whole story, it said "WITH THE AGREEMENT of Neal and Jon." Meaning it wasn't PERRY BY HIMSELF who fired Ross and Steve Smith. It was a 3 on 2 situation. Plus, Steve WANTED them back for Trial By Fire and apologized for his lack of judgment. If anything, blame NEAL for the downfall of Journey, not Steve.

No. They planned a world tour after Trial By Fire went platinum, but Steve refused to get the hip surgery he needed to go. They waited nearly TWO YEARS FOR HIM, while the album's buzz slowly died, and finally gave him a choice: get the surgery and we'll tour after you recover, or we're going with someone else. He got pissed over their "meddling" and left (then ended up getting the surgery that year).

I understand Filipinos being very proud of Arnel since there aren't many worldwide famous except maybe for Many Pacquiao, but instead of trashing SPerry they MUST understand that Arnel is famous now because Steve skyrocketed Journey to fame, and he imitates him. He was always a decent guitar layer but his band(s) were always missing the money mark until Perry stepped in and made all of them money, fame and admiration. Steve Perry didn't leave the band. Steve Perry broke his hip in Hawaii while training for his upcoming tour with Journey for the "Trial by Fire" album. The entire tour got cancelled and the record sales dropped. Neil Schon & Jonathan Cain and whoever else was involved gave steve perry an ultimatum...."Get better or we are replacing you". Steve couldn't rehab that quickly so they replaced him. Simple as that. All I know if that was me in that situation, I'd be crushed by my bandmates.

@soLuiSta Yes!!! Most respectable employers wouldn't be permitted to do what Journey did to Steve. There's no way that my employer (University of FL) could dictate when I had to get surgery. We have had many employees who've needed knee or hip replacements but it would be totally against State of FL employee rules for any supervisor to tell them they had to do it in order to keep their job. It's ridiculous, and just plain WRONG! A hip replacement is a major surgery & pretty scary to have done.

Retarded video. OF COURSE Journey needed Perry. But Perry needed them, too. You never would have HEARD of him otherwise, and his shit *after* Journey sucks giant donkey balls. TOGETHER, they made some of the best music of the late 70s/early 80s. Perry and Schon were one of the best combinations in rock history (Osbourne + Rhodes, Van Halen + Roth, etc.) Apparently BANDS are a thing of the past, and the attitude in this video is part of the problem.

Let's get the facts straight. Journey had a record contract w/o SP. When SP was brought into the picture he was cleaning chicken coups and his band was dead, along with his demo recordings. NS and JC found success w/o SP. NS and JC are the song writers. SP never wrote the music for any of Journey's material. SP sat out for over a year on his hip surgery ordeal. Christ, what a pussy. Steve said in an interview from a TV show about Journey that he really felt pressure from the other members of the band to have the hip surgery.But he felt it was his personal decision to make.Watching that particular show I saw Neal's jealousy of Steve's popularity with the fans and of Steve's involvement with other aspects of Journey. Neal thought of Journey as his band and he didn't like the idea of Steve muscling in on his domain. For me Steve can never be replaced as lead singer.

If you actually WATCHED the whole story, it said "WITH THE AGREEMENT of Neal and Jon." Meaning it wasn't PERRY BY HIMSELF who fired Ross and Steve Smith. It was a 3 on 2 situation. Plus, Steve WANTED them back for Trial By Fire and apologized for his lack of judgment. If anything, blame NEAL for the downfall of Journey, not Steve.

The band journey was about to be fired from their record label, the thing that saved them was the sound Steve Perry brought to the band. If it had not been for SP this conversation would not be happening. Also don't forget Jon Cain wrote the songs that made journey WITH SP. another thing women love good looking, sexy men, the fact that SP brought along with that awesome dynamite voice, the sex appeal that us women love. Like it or not baby, hes the whole package women love, incuding me.

Well let's see the new singer is from the Phillipines on the live disc, singing Perry songs and Revelation becouse the singer sounds EXACTLY like Steve Perry, I think it is fair to say that if the new singer didn't sound remotely like Steve Pery, those discs would have tanked....

I would have to disagree, Steve A sounded the most like Steve Perry. Now if your talking about range, well yes, they both have great range. As far a voice, they really are very different. Check out some of the comparisos here on the tube. Steve A with Steve P, Arnel and Steve P.

I am one of them. But Arnel has a great voice. I just think the writing and the arranging was better with Steve Perrry.Plus Journey live no plays about 80% of Perry songs, what does that tell you.Witt Stev P in the band that was"Classic Journey" plus you hear more Perry-era songs than Arnel-era songs becouse Steve P songs are better. Just ask around.

Yah i agree to your opinion, I love Arnels Voice as much as i love Steve Perry. Steve was the reason why Arnel became SUCCESSful, there is no doubt that steve was the reason why the band became a success. Its just heartbreaking that other people describe arnel as a copycat, no he isn't! he's just an another perry fan like you guys! He became the singer because he loves Steve, so please, dont fight with us saying that Arnel Sucks! Because its like saying that YOU youself suck!

First of all, Journey existed before Perry. Of course Journey WITH Perry was better than Journey without, just as Perry WITH Journey was better than Perry without. It was a good BAND, a perfect fit between Perry's soulful vocals and Neal's soulful playing. And here is Neal freely admitting it, and you guys DISS on him for it? It's not like he booted Perry from the band, you fucking idiots.

No. They planned a world tour after Trial By Fire went platinum, but Steve refused to get the hip surgery he needed to go. They waited nearly TWO YEARS FOR HIM, while the album's buzz slowly died, and finally gave him a choice: get the surgery and we'll tour after you recover, or we're going with someone else. He got pissed over their "meddling" and left (then ended up getting the surgery that year).
