i have the original game and have dosbox but is there any option in the dosbox to reduce the FPS? i want to play it again but i cant cause the game run too fast:(((

I remember my dad used to play the original Syndicate a lot. I never really understood it cos I was about 7 or something, but I've always thought that group of cyber agents were some of the coolest motherfuckers around. Im a Deus Ex fan aswell, and this game DEFINITELY has a similar vibe to it. CLASSIC, I might buy this on PSN cos its only 2 quid, but I hope the graphics ain't too bad compared to the PC version

I remember when I first played the demo I had my guys running out of the building with the scientist to get to the car I had parked out the front. The Zealots flew in but I had the Electron Mace too and made short work of them.
Then in an unrepeatable moment of hardware straining slow-motion they careened into the pyramid as the bomb I left inside earlier exploded simultaneously. My getaway car driving triumphantly away from the shockwave as I fist pumped.
Shortly after as I made it back to base, a 2nd flying car swooped in and gunned my boys down before they got in the door. A poetic end to a perfect 10min of gameplay.
Starbreeze is making a Syndicate game. They made Riddick and The Darkness (both FPS). Before those they made 3rd person action games.
Syndicate can only be a point and click game like it was back then, or a shooter. And what do people like right about now? Shooters, so that's what it's gonna be. And Starbreeze have produced successful first person games, making it an FPS.
@SuckItLily I thought project Redlime wasn't 100% confirmed if it was a Syndicate game or not yet? Where did you read that because i have been trying to dig more info up on it.
Your right on the FPS thing though. I'm thinking a FPS in a GTA style sandbox environment.
@jangirke sorry, they were the third faction but did't made it into the final version. To play them- that's possible- you have to unlock every single mission by hand, there are guides in the web. But there is no campaign for them in the game. I speak to you as a person that finished both campaigns. :)
They need to make another cyberpunk game like this. By now the best that came out in this genre are the Deus Ex 1 & 2 And the third game is comming soon :)
There is a version of syndicate for sega genesis and a better version of this one for ps1. This game is really fun , i played it on amiga , pc , genesis and ps1 lol.

@LachoDroogie That's true; I couldn't capture the video at high detail at full frame rate, so this video only shows the game's low detail (320x200) setting. The high detail version runs at 640x480.

You shouldn't use agent 1 for both the electron mace and persuadatron, also, use the persuadatron to get human shields before going to persuade the scientists..
I just played it under XP with sound and all the stuff. Works perfectly under DosBox. For the music: I just ripped the CD's audio tracks as mp3s and played them in Winamp while playing.

Since games like this have a cult following, any problems you may encounter could probably be solved by just going online and looking up a forum. Get this game mate, i promise you that you will enjoy it!

@zauii89 I hope it blast's back onto the game stage in a massive way. It was a great classic game on the Amiga 500. Push that PS3 to it's graphic limit. Maybe have a view point change ie:From the sky to the FPS view.
some of those levels were so hard to beat when you get swamped by like a million punks and ten cars all coming at you like rutger hauer.
also in this game if you pay attention to the video screens you can see the porny trailer for ghost in the shell and that other game dungeon keeper... haha!
I loved the The Church of the New Epoch, I always liked playing as them. At first I thought they were the supposed 'good guys' that wanted to take down Ero Corp Syndicate. Due that in the beginning you feel that the Church was out to show the people what the Syndicate really is, later on however.

actually, back in the day the graphics are what turned most people off about this game. Even at the time people complained about how everything including the characters looked pixelated. It was a time when 3D accelerators were just gaining ground. For some reason Bullfrog didn't put any resources into taking advantage of any of the latest 3D hardware. It was almost too ambitious for it's time. If it was released a year or 2 later it could have been mind blowing.
These people run waaay too fast. I remember back the first game the city seemed a little less jerky and people didn't zip around like they were on a sugar rush.
It looks like it could have been an ok game but the people look shitty, and the city is a little too closed in on itself to permit the ole birds eye angle
None of that chip story stuff makes any sense either since there are TV screens and neon signs everywhere... so who are they targeted at if the people can't even see them????
I agree that the gameplay, and the isometric 3D of the original, though less fancy, was more pleasant. As for the story of these chips, I don't see your plot hole. I think it makes little sense to assume that the chips somehow directly modify the visual perceptions of those implanted with it. More likely, the chips work by modifying people's emotional state, making them happy and content, an effect rather like what one might achieve through the use of anti-depressant drugs, only more potent.

I remember being disappointed by the lack of detail in the graphics for this demo back when I first got it, so I didn't bother getting the game. Part of my problem was I felt like I was less in control than before, having to mess with the camera. Looks like the missions were crazy detailed, though. I had no idea.
I thought Syndicate1 was a bit better. Mostly because SW,when it came out,I though was a bit blocky,even if it was "state or the art" back then.
But there where a few things that bugged me about this game.Most important one to me was the you couldnt select everyone to hide there weapons. You had to do it one at the time. This was tedious and resulted in that you just killed every cop instead...,unlike S1.
You can get the PSX version on PSP now from the Sony store.Its a bit more arcady than PC.
I loved Syndicate on the Amiga (and the American missions). I've never had a PC that can run the DOSbox version (1.9 gig and its not enough to play these old games! Oh, the irony..) - so got the Playstation version.. Its ok but feels more like an action game (with the pad), you also don't have as much control over your weapons as a mouse driven game (instead of shooting where the mouse is pointing your men just shoot in the general direction - it feels a bit loose in comparison).
If anyone enjoy the PSX version of Syndicate Wars like I did, my friend and I are about to submit a in depth FAQ at GameFAQS for this game. i remember when i was a kid playing this at my friends house it put in a code that u could get evry gun it was awesome we were blowing up shit with the "graviton gun" omg! and setting razor wire traps i still rember that code - " pooslice"
this is the best game ever..... but i like ti better on the ps1, controls are way better and the screen is zoomed out further so you can see what is ahead of you..
I really only had the chance to play the SNES version.
I played the PS version when it came out, but only as a rental and couldn't afford (or later find) the game to really invest the amount of time I wanted into it.

I loved this game up to the mission in Hawaii/Honolulu which still haunts me to this day. Oh and the second to last mission for the Coroporation.
Still an awesome game though. Way ahead of its time.

You can still play the game and the demo with dos-box but dude you need to slow down the game with Ctrl+F8 and Ctrl-F12 you need to do that!

I loved the The Church of the New Epoch, I always liked playing as them. At first I thought they were the supposed 'good guys' that wanted to take down Ero Corp Syndicate. Due that in the beginning you feel that the Church was out to show the people what the Syndicate really is, later on however.

actually, back in the day the graphics are what turned most people off about this game. Even at the time people complained about how everything including the characters looked pixelated. It was a time when 3D accelerators were just gaining ground. For some reason Bullfrog didn't put any resources into taking advantage of any of the latest 3D hardware. It was almost too ambitious for it's time. If it was released a year or 2 later it could have been mind blowing.

These people run waaay too fast. I remember back the first game the city seemed a little less jerky and people didn't zip around like they were on a sugar rush.
It looks like it could have been an ok game but the people look shitty, and the city is a little too closed in on itself to permit the ole birds eye angle
None of that chip story stuff makes any sense either since there are TV screens and neon signs everywhere... so who are they targeted at if the people can't even see them????

I agree that the gameplay, and the isometric 3D of the original, though less fancy, was more pleasant. As for the story of these chips, I don't see your plot hole. I think it makes little sense to assume that the chips somehow directly modify the visual perceptions of those implanted with it. More likely, the chips work by modifying people's emotional state, making them happy and content, an effect rather like what one might achieve through the use of anti-depressant drugs, only more potent.

Great overview of a great game! You forgot to mention how stupidly hard it was to get the DOS Extender to even run it though ;).
Also, EA are currently funding a new Syndicate game but I don't think Lionhead (formerly Bullfrog) are involved.

I remember being disappointed by the lack of detail in the graphics for this demo back when I first got it, so I didn't bother getting the game. Part of my problem was I felt like I was less in control than before, having to mess with the camera. Looks like the missions were crazy detailed, though. I had no idea.

I thought Syndicate1 was a bit better. Mostly because SW,when it came out,I though was a bit blocky,even if it was "state or the art" back then.
But there where a few things that bugged me about this game.Most important one to me was the you couldnt select everyone to hide there weapons. You had to do it one at the time. This was tedious and resulted in that you just killed every cop instead...,unlike S1.
You can get the PSX version on PSP now from the Sony store.Its a bit more arcady than PC.

I loved Syndicate on the Amiga (and the American missions). I've never had a PC that can run the DOSbox version (1.9 gig and its not enough to play these old games! Oh, the irony..) - so got the Playstation version.. Its ok but feels more like an action game (with the pad), you also don't have as much control over your weapons as a mouse driven game (instead of shooting where the mouse is pointing your men just shoot in the general direction - it feels a bit loose in comparison).

I have the PSP version and you can only save between missions. But you can always just turn your PSP off to "save state".
The controls for the PSP version are good. Just use Setup 2, not the default since it thinks you have two thumbs on your left hand lol.

this is the best game ever..... but i like ti better on the ps1, controls are way better and the screen is zoomed out further so you can see what is ahead of you..

I really only had the chance to play the SNES version.
I played the PS version when it came out, but only as a rental and couldn't afford (or later find) the game to really invest the amount of time I wanted into it.

What a great game¡¡¡. I have downloaded this game on iso but i have a problem, the game goes too fast and is imposible to play it . I think is because of the computer system and this is an old game . Anyone have the same problem? , somebody know any solution for this problem?. Thanks
