A Explorer XS as your 1st? Nice! I got a crappy predator 2 back in 2001 from Kellyco, it sucked but I still have it for sentimental value (doesn't work anymore), i currently have an Explorer II w/X-1 probe. Lucky kid!
@keithindiana I'm using a simple Bounty hunter pioneer 202---but I've owned many really good detectors---probably over 25 or more detectors---many Tesoro units, some White's, some Fishers, some Garrett units, a Minelab unit, and a few more brands and models of detectors---but I never owned a Explorer unit---my cousin has two Explorer type units and he does well with them---I liked my MXT unit but may get an Explorer someday
Sweet detector, Well it's been about a year now, hope it's been an experience.

That sure beats my first detector. Can't wait to see what you and your son find.
Keep us posted, we have snow on the ground too, but it is melting because it got up into the upper 40's felt good.
