  • wats ppa mean

  • @matiueveritt personal package archive

  • 2 things. 1) I can't find the binary for nvidia driver 180 in synaptic, and 2) the hardware manager says that the driver (nvidia current) is active but not in use. so what do I do to fix these 2 things? at least the last one would be great to fix.

  • it tells me i need to exit the x-server.......how do i do this?

  • @tal32123 havent done in awhile but i believe is Alt+F2 type in 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop' this will drop you to a terminal, also make sure to allow ur driver to execute ' chmod +x nvidia.bin' then to run it 'sudo sh nvidia.run'

  • @gotbletu can you please make a new video on how to do it fully (I heard that there are new nvidia drivers out). or if you already have them installed more new ones are supposed to come out also.

  • @tal32123 they got a PPA for easy install, tho it only up to lucid 10.04 support right now. ill post a link in the info box. Theres already a few videos on youtube that shows u how to install it manually by others so check those out

  • @tal32123 newer drivers doesnt always means is better for your system actually, some of the newer ones are not stable so just keep that in mind. And if you manully install drivers u have to redo that everytime you update ur kernel

  • 4 sum weird reason wen i click on hardware drivers it does nt show me d list of drivers...instead i get a msg saying--no proprietary drivers are in use on dis system...i dnt understand wats wats dis bout...ne1 plz help me out here...m using d ubuntu 10.04...thanx

  • i have ati.... and my screen went black :s

  • awesome cursor

  • THANKS FOR THE GPU HELP

  • you have really good vids but i dont get the channel name?? i think if you got a catchy name for the channel and had the channel name at the begining of title of all your vids u would have a top youtube account

  • @punkofdeath gotbletu ( god bless u ) =). I hate titles or dumb intros or any type of plug -- waste of time thats what youtube whores do for subs, just look at the Front page of youtube if u need an example. I like the fact that people sub me purely because they want to not because of me advertising.

  • @gotbletu for sure i hear you especially on the wast of time, but i thought if you got enough subscribers that they give you some contract and you could make money for shit you would be doing anyway. and thats just what I thought I heard somewhere but everyone could use an extra buck is all i was getting to. and good play on words with the name

  • 5:06 haha this fool says "bust out ur terminal" like its a fuckin glock. lmfao no one dose vids all chill/lay back style like this fool. he don't give a fuck he tells it like it is!! on some other vid hes all oh if u want to turn on the porn just straight up no bullshit. now if only the rest of the world would grow up and stop trying to act all high class or some shit like they think there better.

  • Your voice is amazing,

"It should popup, something like this...

    ...mkay?"

Oh man, thanks for the content though too =]

  • Why i cant download drivers ati on website it say authorized ati drivers

  • Thank YOu f0r all that shit

  • thank you so much! You seem to know what your talking about, so I'll ask you this question. use desktop cube and all that fun stuff, then I upgraded Ubuntu, now it won't let me do the special effects. example: I goto system>preferences>appearance>visual effects (right click desktop>visual effects) I click extra, then it searches for the drivers, then says "desktop effects cannot be enabled". It let me enable it before! WTF I think it has something to do with the xorg.conf file...

  • when i go in my hardware drivers it says nothing is there

  • when i try to install my nvidia drivers i get the error "Could not open the file /home/rorrie/Desktop/NVI…x86_64-195.36.24-pkg2.run.

gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding.

Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.

Select a character encoding from the menu and try again.

Please help ive been trying to get this to work for hours. Thanks sooooooo much

  • how did u get everything in one meneu (system etc) coz i hate having more than 1!

  • @pickyantivirus right click on taskbar, add to panel, then try the other menus they have

  • @gotbletu ahhh 96 and 173 version failed on 10.10

  • @pickyantivirus In the Add to Panel window, search for main menu and take away the menu bar that is put there by defualt and drag the main menu icon to the place where the menu bar is.

  • gotbleto hey i have a question i was using kbuntu and install nvidia drivers and then my audio stated crapping out on me if i install this the driver on ubuntu will it crap out also.

  • Btw I do recommend to manually install drivers if you use Ubuntu to game in any way with Wine. The new 195.xx give more FPS then the 185.xx, it is not a hard process but you have to do this all in your Virtual Console (ctrl+alt+F2) or Recovery mode.

  • Me again! I am using Ubunte 9.10 but I cannot find "Add/Remove Application" and "System Info" apps. Do u know where I can access these utilities apps?

    THX

  • @flyme2japan

They kind of renamed it the new Add/Remove Application is Ubuntu Software Center. System > Administration > System Monitor, click on the System tab and your current system and some hardware is displayed.

  • Nice video! May I know what theme u are using? Very cool..... THX

  • You don't have the wrong x-server, you just got to stop it.

    sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

  • oh yea i no, but if i stop the screencast dies loL, so i skip, but good looking out tho

  • O yeah, didn't think of that :p

By the way, I've noticed you made some videos concerning kubuntu. How is it? A better environment, disadvantages, advantages?

  • @PerformanceOverload posted it 4 times by accident sorry :)

  • hey gotbleto- your like a poor mans splitpaw!

  • Hello i got a problem.

I downloaded the nvidia drivers and restarted the computer.

And i seen the ubuntu loading screen and it was downloading the drivers..

it stopped by 11% installing and an error came up.

How can I fix this problem ,please answer

  • Ok, I need help with something, I installed Ubuntu and Kubuntu and have the problem with both versions. The boot up login sound gets stuck in a continous loop and never quits. So i took both boot cd's to my other computer and sound was just fine. Im running a HP Pavilion Dv7-1175nr and it has the IDT audio HD. I suspect this may be to blame due to linux not having the proper driver or something, Can Any one help me?

  • usually is driver issues, but u can try playing around with the sound settings, like alsa oss or diff device sources to see which works

  • i see where ur getting at but id like to learn how to install it manually.. i get to that point where it asks to shut down the xserver which im able to do. but the problem what that is that the xserver is need to view my screen and i can edit it without viewing what i am doing. i also run the linux in just the terminal without the gui gnome but it keeps giong black. any suggestions?

  • yea u would have to do it form the terminal with no gui. so just remeber where u download ur drivers and cd into that folder and run it

  • yes i did that. i loged into root and hit alt ctrl f1 and went into the terminal with no gui. i type in init 3 should trun off the xserver but the driver is still asking to turn it off the xserver. and i did log into safe mode with out the gui and once i shut down the xserver i got a black screen. no terminal.. and this is without the gui. but i think by going into the the root then pressing ctrl alt f1 and turning it off from there.. maybe well ill see if that works

  • u have to stop gdm and allow permission also

  • yes sudo etc-init-dotd-gdm stop is the command but thats when i get a blank screen... and what do u mean allow permissions? do u know anything about a file called XF86Config in the x11 directory folder? i dont have that file and cant edit it like the nvidia is asking me to

  • plz anser me :) i got a ati x1300.... and i cant get any of these or any other ways i found on the forums.... can u plz help me... i searched on the forums a lot and tried 5 defrent ways but evry one of them fucked up my os installation... plzplzplzpzplz :) help x)

  • Hi, i've tried using envy, and it's not working.

Even the hardware driver list doesn't do anything. It doesn't download the driver it stays at 0% and get stuck like that. I really need the graphics installed on my laptop

I have GEFORCE 9400M G with CUDA. PLEASE HELP!

  • you might need to go to the nvidia site and download it from there and do it manually like im trying to... my video card is old so not even linux could download it and now that i finally got it im trying to install it manually... which if i can figure it out ill probly post it on my channel.. just go to nivdia and go to the drivers section and look for ur card and download the driver for linux and thats it they should give u a run file with all the drivers in side

  • dose the ATI driver still keepin people in the dead bootscreen so that it never boots up or is it now fixed cause i need ubuntu fast iv been stock with windows since the 9.4 version was realest

  • I installed ubuntu 9.04 and my screen res was all jacked up, so went w/ the recommended nvidia driver and after reboot got nothing but a black screen. As a total noob had no idea how to fix it so reinstalled the whole thing and am just dealing w the jacked up res until i figure it out in forums.

  • I am a noob at Ubuntu, and my question is: how do I find the Add/Remove Applications window or the Synaptic Package Manager? Cause I have the 0:55 problem... I'm using a Gainward ATI Radeon HD4830 512MB DDR3

  • I'll see if i can make a vid on how to properly install both ATi and Nvida manually (or how I do it)

  • Awesome video tutorial. Listen how much ram are you using on your pc. I remember that I could make videos like this when I was running 8.10 @ 1gb, suddenly when I upgraded to 9.04 that was just not possible anymore. Of course that was doing the upgrade things. I am going to do a fresh install, but doubt that will have any affect on the matter. Anyways cool vid. Thx.

  • foo, u should have a daily show about tech, tips, comments, critics -open source and distros stuff.

  • Oh btw, I use Fedora and the reason they keep them in separate repositories is because they like to keep their main one completely free of proprietary drivers. I know, it sucks, but not that hard. I got used to it. You should give Fedora 11 a try. It has a lot of new a cool features. Thanks again.

  • Fedora is shit. Sorry it just is. Their whole freetard "free or nothing" is fucking dumb. They only supply the useless free drivers by default. And if you try to install the proprietary drivers it just fucks up X, and thats IF you follow the official fucking FAQ!

    Fuck Fedora!

    Anyway;

@gotbletu, you should really upgrade to the 185.18.14.

There are some pretty shitty bugs in 180.44.

  • Uh... O.K. No need to apologize for anything besides language.

I didn't say it was better at all. It's just a suggestion.

That's why you should keep using Ubuntu or go back to Windows.

  • I will keep using Ubuntu :P

  • Thank you for that.

  • funny screenshots. didn't know people blocked you for giving them bad ratings.

BTW thanks for making the vid.
