@GBart leather armor has passed for the past 20 years at least. considering that leather was the first type of armor that humankind developed, i see absolutely no problem with it. as for it not counting the same as metal, that violates the "playability" part of "safety, playability, THEN realism". it would add a whole new level of loopholes and cheese ability.
