@fozza88 Yeah try explain that to the people that live around here In the growing season when it should be cut 3 Times a week but only gets cut once And they wonder why they have Issues with there saint augustine grass
hey mate im a qualified groundsman down here in australia, do u have any groundsman back ground?? cos if not for a am thats bloody good!!! even coring it and doing your own renovations! good on ya mate! gotta love couch (bermuda) can do anything with it and be so aggressive with it and just keeps on growing! down here we use a variety called santa anna part from bent/poa mix greens!
keep up the good work mate! any questions feel free to ask!
Hey man thanks for the great comments!! No I'm not a groundsman or as it's known as in the states a golf course superintendent it's just a hobby, I built the putting green 11 years ago and resurfaced it 3 years ago it's the end of the growing season here last summer left me with a few disease problems and it's looked better. What part of Australia are you from? Is Bermuda grass every used on the greens in any part of Australia?
@rotarycomptech ah yea very good! what sort of disease did u have? cos perfect disease conditions are rain and humid weather. im from Melbourne in the south but up north in Queensland they use bermuda on there greens due to the hot weather up there but believe it or not there are a few courses up there that use bent i guess if you have the water why not hey haha. but been in melbourne the couch is only green for 4 months of the year then heads into dormancy .
I think it was Rhizoctonia Blight (brown patch) or Necrotic Fairy Ring I have the perfect storm here I live in the sub tropics hot n humid chance of rain 80 percent in the growing season 4. reference I live 1 1/2 half hours away from Disney world. I could overseed the green like some golf courses do in the area with Bent or Poa Trivalis but that would just mask the problem the bermuda stays fairly actively growing intel we get a freeze
@rotarycomptech mm wouldnt say it was brown patch thats more found in cool season grass i would say it would b more fairy ring which number of things u can do to control it and stop it from cultural and chemical, cultural you can solid tine it to coring to scarifying and top dressing or dusting. chemical u could go out with a product called banner maxx or u could go out with a systemic one as well also remember to re spray your green few weeks after your first application to make sure.
Couldn't get ahold of banner maxx But I got some prostar Which is a flutolanil Based fungicide I've made 1 application and I plan to aerate And top dress with medium course Sand Have you ever heard of prostar? Thanks for the help and advice!!
@rotarycomptech it wasnt brown patch i mean lol sorry..also yeah i would overseed your couch cause means if it builds up a seed bank could b there went u want pure couch unless u can spray it out and control it. plus the couch would look heaps better and yea would look like ur hiding the problem and not fixing it.
The bermuda grass that I'm using is a hybrid It produces a seat head but the seeds are sterile Is this what you meant by seed bank? If I do overseed I'm concerned of the over seeded grass Canoping the bermuda Or worse yet a bad transmission
@rotarycomptech hey mate na ive never heard of prostar is it any good???, what i meant by seed bank is the cool season grass u are going to over seed with if u do it to often it will form a seed bank in your couch just like a poa annua (winter grass) will anything that produces seed that germinates will create a seed bank and sometimes come back when u dont want it to cause if it feels the conditions are right it will pop up, so i think just stick it out with the couch!!
It's a systemic Flutolanil based fungicide made by Bayer, it did a great job.. aerated & top dressed lokin good for dormant bremuda.Check out my new video putting green construction for the build if you want thanks for the comments Fozza!!
@CarnivalOfSortsMusic I got the sprigs from a sod farm in the middle of the state. I have a texbook from the
university of south florida titled best management practics for florida golf courses. I don't know what part of the country your in but this bremuda grass is a warm climate turf hope this helps thanks for the comment!
@loftrailway It's bermudagrass the variety is Tifdwarf, witch is a hybrid(can not be grown from seed). you live in Europe I don't think your climate will support bermudagrass you will probably have to use bent or poa trivialis grass in seed form but I would check a local golf corse and find out what type of grass is on the greens. So your 17 yesrs old are you doing this in your parents backyard?
also remember the 1/3 rule when lowering the heights always lower 1/3 at a time
