The one and only, Nick Lucas! He's 84 in this performance... How does he keep his voice? This guy was a one of a kind. If you've known anyone born around the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th, you know they were a talented, moral, wonderful group of people. They just don't make them like that anymore....
@55DepotStreet - That's a great comment about the late 19th & early 20th century generation, I've thought the same thing. They were remarkable people with a great deal of discipline.
@MrDraganLion "Has Anybody Seen My Gal?" is the legal title, sometimes called "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue". Music by Ray Henderson, lyrics by Sam M. Lewis
He really still sounds FANTASTIC even at 84. Folks, if you don't know this man's body of work.....look up Nick Lucas singing Tiptoe through the Tulips from 1929 and other tunes here on Youtube.
I LOVE this ! Nick was such a good performer all the way up to the end, such good posture and commanding stage presence. And where did they find an old microphone like that , that still worked ?!?
@guitarmaniax It's a prop, bud (well, probably a real old carbon mic, though, but not working)... If you look carefully at 2:00 you'll see the shadow of the plain old dynamic mic sticking out of where the 'carbon' would be.... clever, eh?
@musicom67 Ridiculous. In those days, if you couldn't perform, you didn't get on stage. He would have rather died than lip sync a song. You're insulting the legacy of one of the greats! Lip sync is a trick reserved for this generation. This man was a trooper, playing all over the world for 60 years!
@55DepotStreet Just to be clear, I was not insinuating Lucas was lip-syncing. I only was stating that the 'oldtime' microphone was a prop (not working), and that a REAL, WORKING modern microphone was placed in the old microphone shell. Yes, Nick Lucase WAS singing.... Hate to say that lipsyncing was a trick reserved for MANY generations... Most movie soundtracks are lipsynced (especially the big musicals of the 40's and 50's), as well as major TV variety shows like "Hollywood Palace"....
What a marvelous talent and he kept his capabilities right up until the end!

@55DepotStreet You're exactly right! My father and mother, born in 1898 and 1902 respectively, were exemplars of those characteristics to a "T"!
