I've actually made attempts to give false tells at the same time. It's hard for people to get tells if you give off everything. Move back from table, stop talking or chewing gum, always stack chips regardless of play-style. Trying to breathe faster to get a red face to look like a bluff. Lots of stuff. Even trying to rock-scissors-paper the guy by out thinking them. I like limping with practically everything unless someone raises. I'd rather see the flop cheap to define the hand.

@Probitas1 limping is a weak move BECAUSE it lets in weaker hands that would fold to a bet and then these hands flop 2pair and trips for free... limping is bad unless you are trapping.. :)

That's why these tells are good for people that don't know about them. They'll have no idea what they're telegraphing, and probably won't be able to fake anything. However, for someone like you, I'd have to pay extra careful attention to whether the tells your giving off are natural or acted. This is what Caro's book talked about that I read. A major part of reading people was determining whether the tells were natural or fake.

It's amazing how much of this is sort of counter-intuitive psychology (or acting, you might say); a bit like the game itself, where a big bet usually means a weak hand and vice versa. I just wish i could see people's body language when playing online. It's kind of hard to spot a bluff when all you see moving around are virtual chips.

My friends do a lot of this stuff intentionally. None of them are any good but against them I have to assume the opposite usually. But I have noticed this only applies in small $20 games. When I get them in bigger games for $100 buy in or more they get all nervous and tighten up, and these tells are more legit. So I think it has everything to do with how comfortable the player is at the table.

gonna have to agree with some other previous comments on here and disagree with rule number 10. Experienced players see reaching for chips as they are betting as a weakness that you are trying to push them out of the hand, and they will go ahead and bet. However, I read Phil Gordon's Little Green Book and he talks about when he got busted by a player who reversed that tell on him

I disagree about damaging, some yes it wont work, but the majority of average players will still make a few of these mistakes even with todays standards. Most ive witnessed get way too comfortable when having a strong hand and vise versa with a weak.
