  • My off the track standardbred now goes beautifully in eventing. After he was taken off the track we did a lot of work with a dressage trainer, really make sure that his inside hind leg is under him, it does wonders to their balance in the canter. To get the inside hind leg, we did tons of leg yields and other lateral work. We jumped him for a while at the trot, keeping cantering and jumping as 2 seperate things, and eventually combined them. It seemed to click for my boy by doing steps!

  • wats the point of this? appart from enslaving the horse of course...

  • @BBBulletBoy am I correct in assuming you think all pets are enslaved?

  • i actually have a question for you, is a fox trotter gaited like a paso fino?

and gourgous horse by the way!!!!!

  • @beauty101115 Gaited horses have so many different gaits its hard to say, this horse running walks, racks and foxtrots. I think paso finos rack also but im not sure ive never ridden one. Thanks!

  • I have a Missouri Fox Trotter mare... Are they usaully natrual jumpers? :D

  • @addictedtohorzez This horse is, my moms old MFT would have fallen flat on his face. I think some are just more graceful than others ;)

  • @peaceloveandjumpers LOL, my mft, is pretty good :)

  • very beautiful horse!x

  • plainly put...awesome.

  • @animalskys thank you so much ! :)

  • beautiful horse like the jumping

  • @horsepaw101 thank you! will pass along compliment to his owner :)

  • ok so ihave a 16 yr tb mare and she won't lunge so how else can i teach her to jump?? she will jump logs when it suits her but she wont jump the jumps that i set up for her she just trots straight over themand when i put them high enough for her not to trot over them she swerves around them

  • Your horse is really really beautiful. I taught my Tennessee walker to jump last week, now he will jump pretty much anything I ask him to do. Looks like you have a great bond with your horse.

  • It has been a good bonding experience for us, and thank you ill be sure to pass your compliment along to his owner.

  • i have a foxtrotter mare and i really want to make her a jumper, her problem is she either doesn't get enough strides in or gets to amny and crashes right through it, my Q is how do i fix her isssue? please reply, thanks=)

  • canter work! yay lol. lots and lots of canter work, single poles, lines of poles and more poles. dont jump until you can canter through smoothly. free jumping builds the horses confidence too. carrying an even pace is more important than getting the perfect distance, and foxtrotters tend to shuffle inbetween the canter and some kind of racking gait when they are apprehensive so it takes even more time and patience. if you'd like to message me I may be able to help you more.

  • That is one of the most gorgeous horses I have ever seen!! He takes the jumps nice and smoothly, too. Good job!! Greetzz 5*

  • haha thank you, should see him right now hes got his ugly winter coat hes practically orange - cant wait for summer!! He jumps very smooth, wish he would use his neck but i think its hard for him conformationally? love him tho :]

  • do u think i would have any luck getting a 8 yr tenessee walker to compete in jumping?

  • @11hellokittygirl : It is totally possible, as long he is willing worker and can balance just like any other jumper. If ur going for equitation, ur walker must trot and canter.

I've seen a walker become a very good jumping horse. =]

  • some have a knack for it and some I wouldn't push in a million years! your walker will tell you. as for competing, I know around here you can only enter open classes because they are a gaited breed but if you just walked in picked up the canter and did a course i bet nobody would notice.

  • thanks for ur help but i think ill have better luck with my paint/mustang/thouroughbred/some other things but i cant remember them all to jump or my very well mannered shetland pony

  • do u think i would have any luck gettin a 25 year old quarter horse to jump?probably not i just want ur opinion

  • Brietzke4- Personally., I think you probably could have some luck getting a 25 year old quarter horse to jump - I'm only saying this because I have an ex polo pony who's in her 20's - not completely sure of her age and she's learning to jump at the moment :) She loves it :)

Peaceloveandjumpers - Real is gorgeous, I love the video. It looks like you've been doing a great job with Real - keep it up. xxx

  • hey, thanks a bunch! hes actually improved tons I just have no internet at my new house so theres no way I can upload a big old video file :(

  • if he/shes sound... like no arthritis or navicular or anything that would make them opposed to jumping then i dont think little ones would hurt? your horse will tell you if they like it or not :)

  • oh cool

  • is dat u

  • yep

  • hey i got a paso fino, who i want to jump, but she is scared to!? can u help me?!

  • Its pretty much the same as with any young horse, just start very small and very slow. If your paso fino canters you are stoked because getting a gaited horse to canter with a rider is the hard part :) I did a lot of lunging, groundwork and level 1 parelli with him and just started adding poles and building up. I didnt get on him until he was comfortable doing it himself. idk if that helps any but i hope it does! Hes been my experiment and we have a long way to go so I dont have all the answers.

  • hahaha yeah when this one decides to shuffle rather than canter in I just sit there like OMG... I see no distance and have no rhythm lol. Good luck! Ill get a new video soon he is doing so much better :)

  • :D YAY EELS SONG!!!

  • I know what you mean! I had never worked with one until recently and they have so many awkward gaits that are in between a canter and a foxtrot/rack/running walk or whatever they do... it really does make them look lame when they canter in front and not in back. This horse had EPM but his owner had it treated so now hes doing quite well, he goes barefoot 1/2 the year and has not tripped with me in a long time (hope i didn't just jinx myself there :) thanks for your comment!

  • I am a stranger to gaited horses, I must admit, but it looks like your doing a fantastic job, and when i see a gaited horse move, they always look lame to me! Although, Im sure your horse is in perfect health!

  • Very good, he learning nicley how to use his body over the jumps. Remeber to be very patient with a new horse learning to jump. Best to keep his confidence. You doing well helping him over the fences. Keeping doing what your doing looks great. :)

  • Thanks I think he is taking to it rather well too! My favorite quote that I always remember when I get frustrated is by John Lyons... "The only emotions that belong in the saddle are patience and a sense of humor.." works well for me =]

  • I also love that quote, too :)

  • Awe what a cutie! He will get better when his balance catches up with him. Im more familiar with rocky mountain horses but great job.. I think they are hard enough to get to canter let alone jump! how is his gate? He looks like a blast to ride.

  • He is awesome to ride! Sometimes he racks and sometimes he fox trots but everything he does is comfortable, even his canter. I consider him my adopted horse because his owner hasn't been able to ride in 3 years so its just him and I all the time =] Ive never ridden a rocky mountain horse what gaits do they do?

  • he is gorgeous! great job jumping & great vid:)

  • Thanks, it felt super awkward because his neck is so upright! I was releasing but he wasn't stretching down and I couldnt really do a two point because id probably run into the neck and the fence was so tiny.

  • Great video, love the horse!!! I rated it five stars! :)

  • thanks for the nice rating :) I love him too

  • You are welcome! :)

  • nice video, found it very relaxing to watch

  • thanks, it is more mellow than my other videos, both the music and the horse. Hes relaxing to ride he just coasts along like a little train on a track =]
