the perfect way to see who your friends are. Listen to this song and something by Captain Beefheart if they stay and listen to the whole thing with out asking to change it... they are good.
if they laugh at the dark humor of this song, then no need to resort to the Beefheart factor just keep them as friends.
Like Huge said in one interview, the band sings a form of surreal satanic folk ... it`s not ment to be taken litteraly. The macabre style of Martyn`s music has it`s prodigios flavoure that makes it so easy to love, if u have the ear (and the brain) to process it. As for the "making fun of" it`s not to make a point just to be very original, and yes they can easy relate to Muslims or any kind of religion, i doubt highly that Bin Laden`s guys listen to this kind o music :).
@Arconeus - Yes, it's irreverant, but safe. Christianity and its iconic figures are safe targets these days. Do they have the balls to include Mohamed? I somehow doubt it.
@poissonnoir - I don't think they've chosen to make fun of Christianity just because it's a safe target. I think you should consider the fact that most of their audience are Christians or were raised in a culture which somehow rose from Christianity. It wouldn't have the same impact on their targeted audience if they were to sing about Mohamed, Vishnu or any other religious icons, because they can't relate in any way to those names.
@Arconeus - Yes, it's irreverant -- but totally safe: Christianity and its iconic figures are safe targets these days. Do they have the balls to include Mohamed?
