Im pretty sure its that the stool is actually attached to the oven or whatever in the back and it raises up from there. Like the oven extends to a solid part forming the bench actually but you cant tell. And then its kinda 'conveyed' up, lifted up from there

my school just finished doing this musical and i have to say it was amazing! we are lucky enough to have amazing singers and our drama teacher invited the show choir to be in it as well and it was fantastic. The person that played our witch is one of our best actors and singers. GOOD JOB CIENEGA!!!

You can tell the relationship between the actors. Look at 2:38, as Bernadette starts to run out of time or air with her lines right there as she says " my mother had warned me that i would be punished." Then she looks at the baker and has a look on her face like "oh shit" for a second. Then when the camera goes to the baker as he yells "beans!" he's smiling. Sorry, I'm a director. I notice these things. I love the freak-out when she's about to say "a snake" too.

Can I just say that I love this musical... I used to listen to it everyday for a whole year while a Freshmen in College...

But one thing I never understood and what always drives me crazy about anything written for children is the adult material that seeps through and ferments in the story... My case in point is when the Witch sings...'He was robbing me raping me!'
