@JSWoodhams well if you are gonna show the way to do it where you select the inverse go to blur and then fix the opacity, i was just giving an alternate simpler idea that is similar to that same process.
@JSWoodhams This really wasn't hate, stop treating like such. I liked your video and commented on it, offering another way that it could be done. I wasn't trying to one up you or anything like that. Sorry if I offended you? Maybe I won't comment on the video next time.
@littlepowerbit - alright well it just gets on my nerves when people comment on a video, which is for a certain thing, with another way of doing it, makes me feel as if its not good enough, Maybe make a tut and post it as a video response, that'll be cool.
@JSWoodhams I understand where you're coming from, because people usually hate first and then like after. With as many subs and views as you have you probably get a lot of hate. Have a good one.
Thanks, agree with the post below this is by far the best and most straightforward video I have come across!

I had to watch 5 other videos until I found yours. This way works best for what I was trying to do. Thanks!

@cbkxsniperkillx The new quicktime allows you to record your screen, although when you record gradients it looks a bit odd.

you could also create a black layer and use the marquee tool with 250 feather radius and delete, a bit simpler and the same affect.
