  • lol.. thoz comments are hilarious.. it's true that most people on this island have an identity crisis, because they hail from different parts of the world. But i've been to india and frankly i can't relate to Indian people at all.. they have another culture, way of life and mindset.. The only thing we share in common is the religion. Mauritians have their own unique identity and culture.. peace

Gone are these days.....sadly I am no longer living there....but my memory is still there.....missing those days a lot!!I

Also please tell me there is a Dhollpuri seller near Trou Aux Cerfs. He is famous. Do you know if he still there? I do not know the address. I live in Geneva. Thank you for help.

  • YEEEEES ! how to forget this famous dal puris seller from trou aux cerfs. for chawtaris it was like a must to order these d-puris there. also the ones at the premiere in G-5 football stadium in curepipe.

i think at trou aux cerfs the family still doing this precious job. to think of the cool temperature of curepipe and these dholl-puris hmmmm. makes feeling hungry :-)

  • @angeljiggle

yes its dewa in rose hill.

millionaire or not, salute to these people who are very helpful also for the middleclass people of mauritius. from few one could have a lunch instead to sit in a restaurant or snack.

    greetings !!!

  • Well said radefeld26.

I think he is not Mauritian that bhaskar541. sad case.....

  • bhaskar541

And what do you mean by diversity in Mauritian cuisine? We have world food in Mauritius being represented. I can get from caviar to a 'rougaille' to a 'mauritian briyani'...mmmm....to a 'Bol devirer' mind you. What about 'gato piment' and 'di pin frire'? Come on mate, you do not know the meaning of diversity. May i suggest you look at the urban dictionary to refresh your brain....if you do have any.

  • @bhaskar541

In itself, the Mauritian cuisine is diverse. Any food we cook at home has got a mixture of European/Indian/African/Chinese. Even to fry an egg, we can see the mixture of these 4 cuisines. If you are not Mauritian, its better if you ask ppl and discover how the culinary arts are different from other countries. Such a beauty and unrivalled.

  • Bha Bha,,Bahs..Bastard...I bet u r a shit head dats why u r tlkg so much shit abt M'tius...Ya we do have a lot..lot genius here...

    U r just a Loser....<3

  • love mauritius missing da sun & da beachh

  • newdevinedj,

The culture you live and have been brought up in has much more of an influence in ones life than their heritage. You learn and experience events in the society you live in of which all affects they way you process things. You clearly have pride in where your from whichever that may be and it seems that race plays an important role in your life. Just because you feel you are or have close ties to Indians does not mean we all are. When i ask someone where they are from?

  • They do not answer with i am 10th generation ..... etc, The fact that Mauritius is such a diverse country in race/culture it is quiet difficult for some to exactly know where their ancestors originated from. It seems like your goal is to associate Mauritians with Indians. Yes Mauritius is influenced by that country but then again it is also influenced by many other countries as well. I really do not know what your problem is if your Mauritian then your from Mauritius no need complicate it idiot

  • @Ocelot911 bit snobbish , im a french decendant myself im not indian, but i love this island and its food and people , its because of racism sometimes that has separate us from being together as one nation proud to be a maurician black or pink (white) its a woderful island, & i will be retired there soon cheers

  • the dahl puri doesnt look like the mansa's one they sell in mauritius - whats up with dholl instead of dhall why the hell would you want a doll in puri

  • isnt it DAL ?

  • newdevinedj :

'......as people become more educated on the genealogy....'

Are you saying that the present generation is not educated? Well could you try to educate your own Indian ppl for a moment? At least we do not spit on the road, shit on the road, stare at others women, talk loud in public, talk loud on mobiles, smell of curry, mis-behave in public, boasting as if we are 'expert', we are not casteist or sexist, etc...etc..like you people are. Such qualities are framed in your mind

  • cmorebut

Am from village areas in Mauritius. So does that mean you are more brainy than me since you are from towns? Or probably more backward (and self centred) as you always are? From what i can read you are backward since you mentioned vacoas is not a town.

  • newdevinedj :

'...act like they are of West Indian Heritage...'

Is there anything wrong in that?

Well I am like that as well and proud to act like that. Or rather should I act like in those girly Bollywood movies to please your Excellency? Could be u r the one living in the dark ages and you are the 'retard' here by not willing to change. We are not Indians but Mauritians. Our motherland is Mauritius. Am I making myself clear?

  • @cmorebut

yea? and what is my roots? watching girly Bollywood movies night & day, drinking cow piss and showing off like madmen, talking loud in public, smelling of curries, staring at others' women....should I add more to this list? sorry mate, thats your roots. Seems to me you are proud of those roots but not me.....& its not my roots. Carry on to water those incredible roots of yours.....

  • newdevinedj :

Who cares abt Indian heritage? You do probably care as its your business but not us. Or rather I do not give a damn about it as I have better things to attend to. The majority of BBM are right in their behavior as their elders already approve it . Or do they need permission from your Excellency who is a 'retard'? C'mon mate...mind your own business. We r happy as we are. Seems u r unhappy to see that.....well u will always remiain one.

  • newdevinedj :

I do not think you understand me...do you? Are you so thick?

First, we act as we want . Secondly we are proud of ourselves. Also if we don't copy we create. Indians like yourselves are the known to copy others (see Bollywood).

  • @cmorebut

well actually my issue is resolved. U r turning it to be unresolved. I am happy with my status but it seems to me that you are the one who is trying to make a fuss here by turning my happiness into being unhappy. Typical Indian...

  • @cmorebut

Since when has Vacoas turned into a village now? I am from there. If u r not from MRU then I suggest U do read abit abt the towns/villages of MRU to educate urself more. Vacoas/Phoenix are twinned towns. Even Goodlands is applying to get town status at the moment and so is Mahebourg (which was the previos capital of Mauritius in the 16th century). And what does 'Chamar' means? Are u playing caste system here? We r not India, mind u.

  • Comment removed

  • newdevinedj what are you saying ? Only creoles can act like black people in London? Is that a 'Law' coming from you or what? You are the most dumb person for writing such a silly thing. Nobody has ever said such ridiculous comment before. Probably yu can start writing books on that...fucktard!!.

  • Comment removed

  • And look for who is talking about Indian traditions at the moment. Let me remind you that many Indians in London/NYC behave not like Indians but in Bollywood style. So you are copying Bollywood at the moment not India. I suggest you learn your own culture for a moment (or is it Bollwood culture).

  • lol

  • @ cmorebut

WTF are you talking? Are you saying we are coconuts? What a disgusting comment coming from you. You should be someone from India for writing that....as usual. Well as a credit from you, yes we may be like coconut : white from inside and brown from outside, but you are fucking brown both inside out as a dead coconut. Take it as a compliment. Indian prick.

  • @sorbetTamTam nice one ;p

  • @sorbetTamTam nice one ;p

  • so where are you from?

  • Comment removed

  • We make it in Guyana in South America.

  • interesting, in Trinidad we make the dhal puri the same except we add some garlic, pepper and roasted jeera (cumin) powder to the dhall filling which gives it a wicked kick, and we also eat it with chicken, or goat or shrimp curry rather than vegetable curries.

  • Trini, I am Guyanese. We make it the same. Goes with the curry but we also have a very thin one which is served as a snack and is served like they did it. Served with sour or chutney.

    delicous!

  • stop fighting guys, we all r mauritians, we all know the history, ancestors, slavery etc.....we r not second generation of india...huh c'mon...u 4gt chinese, african, what about 'milates'? do they come from india? alors paul beranger indian?

  • yea I looked in the mirror, and I can tell you that feel, I am and I breathe ' Mauritian'. We do not care about what you feel or how others describe us Get lost in your own world and stay there.

  • 'Mauritians are 2nd generation from India'.....

Thats the most irrelevent statement I ever heard. Why don't you say we are born in India?

  • And you also say its the truth. i wonder where you got that information.

  • My heritage is Mauritian heritage, put that clear in your mind. We r all Mauritians here except ppl like you disagree to agree. Our motherland is Mauritius also and not India although there is govt interference from French/Indian/RSA at the moment.

  • Carry on talking you nutter. You are offending people here by saying our motherland is India. Could be where you come from yours is India coz u r a refugee. We have got our own status here and we can define ourselves. Seems you are unhappy abt that. Well you are a plonker.

  • Mauritians are 2nd generation from India? Where have you heard or read about that mate? I guess you should read proper mauritian history b4 saying nonsense here. We r multiracial here. My ancestors are not from India ok? That is just absurd. Do your homework b4 writing nonsense here. As goes for 'Dhal-puri' can't you read everybody here is saying its a Mauritian dish? Its only you disagreeing. Get a life you loser.

  • cmorebut : are you from a different planet?

  • thank god for youtube

  • @cmorebut ;

Can I reply to you on that? As an Indian I would say that Indian food will have of safran, crushed chillis, crushed mustard, lots of ginger and some masalla. mauritian food is renown to be plain, but more healthy otherwise (same as the video) . Indian food tends to be more spicy, hot and typical 'curry like'. Even the curry style in Mauritius is light as its just adapted to the locals. Indian curry / food is 10x stronger unlike here in the video. At 15s we just see flour...

  • this is true!

  • Same goes for pizza. Nowadays we see Japaneze Pizza, NY pizza, Chicago Pizza, Singapore Pizza etc...Although the real stuff comes from Napoli (South Italy) but everybody modifies it to tastes. Therefore, its a Mauritian food we are watching here far from the Indian way....but its nice or nicer though.

  • thank you sulakshanna !

    thanks for this video !

  • eh pilion

dholl puri was made originally by indo mauritians so it was made in MAURITIUS

  • Comment removed

  • cmorebut : The dish could be originally from India but at the moment the preparation reflects typical mauritian style. The modern generation of mauritian generation will confirm that.

  • @cmorebut :

you may be wrong here.....if you see the different stuff that have been incorporated in the flatbread, you will see its Mauritian. Not everthing is Indian...come on...I think you need to wake up...
