I got this a little earlier and played through the first and second adventure. Second adventure went through a combo of wizard and ranger. I can imagine some of the difficulty on some of the Strahd hunting missions, but if you read through the adventures carefully, the game is only as difficult as you make them.
We found that the ranger and wizard made a good combo of exploring the dungeons while keeping monsters at a safe range. Thunderwave helping keep things at range.
Got this game about 5 days ago. Once i opened it and read the rules i was like WTF! .I always play the DM with my friends. Where the hell is he now!!??? What am i going to do aaaaa!!!! :P
I bought Wrath of Ashardalon and think I will grab this one as well. So for those who have both, if you have an adventure where you combine components from the 2, is it easy to tell which components are from which so that I can put them back with the correct game after? The monsters are easy enough, but I am thinking more about tiles and encounter/treasure cards.
Does anyone know if you can use your D&D (mini's & Cards) added into this set game? Can you mix both games to make cool mega game??? Why does Wizards of Coast sponsor Gameshop Tourmnments or leagues to get more deepers in players.... don't just let it run on own, & just Die in one year....like Star wars Mini's & other games???
I'm confused. So the monster always gets to attack you first. They always suprise you. That doesn't sound right. If you discover a new tile, and reveal a monster, you should be able to continue your movement to attack the monster.
@andyschiller Having just bought the game, I'm a little annoyed by that too. Only played the solo mission thus far, and it was fun, but a little confusing. There's a LOT of stuff happening every turn, with no respite. Strangely enough, playing real D&D, with its hundreds of charts and graphis, feels more streamlined than Castle Ravenloft.
Cool I like how they did this but I played this before they made a boardgame and the card no thinks I like DnD 3.1 or 3.5 the rules in the board game sucks you don't have to encounter monster all the time there so quest where you don't have to roll or kill but you have to you or mind thou if you like to know what I'm talk about read 3.1 or ask me.
Now I'm getting this. My friend loves Ravenloft and this will be a big surprise when we sit down to play! I have Descent and love it so I know this is gonna be sweet! Ordering now!
@ZeroInSanE Hey, at least you got Descent! I own Descent, its probably the greatest game ever! Its complicated but fun; I just got Castle Ravenloft in the mail today, I'm unboxing it now. I wish you luck getting Ravenloft friend.
@Terragen Well, cant tell that, from my D&D point of view, a dungeon master should led the player through the quest, in Descents its literally, kill them.
The new D&D Board Games differ most from games like Descent: Journeys in the Dark in that they do not have one player playing the GM role or the more adversarial role of the Overlord from Descent. Castle Ravenloft (and the upcoming Wrath of Ashardalon) are both true co-op games for 1-5 players, with everyone playing heroes.

What the hell man! In 2.0 Ravenloft was all about the story and the immersion. All about the horror.
What WOTC has done is completely kill what made Ravenloft so awesome!

@Selvec It's a dedicated board game. Relax. The actual campaign setting comes out this summer.

I like the game, but I've rewritten many rules and items for a more 'fun' game.
Place tile and critter before movement, breath of life gives five instead of one, added a weapon with +4 attack and 2 damage for the dragonborn...
In several cases where it says miss includes damage, and effect, we dropped the damage and kept the effect, or said, no... it missed.
Eg: Crossbow Turret. On a miss, it misses. On a hit, it's two dmg.
This has helped the fun factor in our games immensely.
