No, they are not, you should really read something about the movie, becouse you obviously missed a few things, on IMDB there is a thread under silent hill that explains a lot of things. In the church scene dark part of Alessa's soul merged with Sharon (good part of her soul) and Alessa was reborn in Sharons body. But since Alessa hates outside world that was always cruel to her, she stayed locked up in the Fog World (Otherworld) with Rose
