America is dead. The Supreme court killed it!!! It doesn't matter how many people get behind this and I'm sure this movement has the majority. The crooks who have overthrown our government won't let it go without violence.....
Uhm, the framers didn't mean "people" in the same way that Communists mean "people". The United States is a Representative Republic, not a Democracy. It never was, and any attempt to spin it that way is at best disingenuous and at worse an attempt to deceive.
We were never meant to be a "Mob Rule" Democracy. No vote can overturn LAW, no matter how many vote for it. This is what we were founded on, but now due to ignorance (TV, sports, Jersey Shore and the CIA front Facebook) corporate greed and a failed education system ( search Charlotte Iserbyte "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" on YT), we have fallen and it is all by design!
I have some words of wisdom for you. Shut up and get the facts, not the lies corporations are funding but the ones that are true. And don't go to any website that supports Scott Walker or anyone else like him because everything on there is a big, fat, LIE! So...... Get your head out of the gutter and LOOK IT UP! Sheesh, I'm only 14 and I have to teach all of you "adults" how to get the facts. Shouldn't you have learned this in elementary school? Shows how much you know.
What's all this rant against corporations!?!? Of course they need to lobby government as much as unions and other entities do. Everything's connected together. I'm a shareholder and want my investments to make wealth for retirement. I cannot rely on Social Security or a guaranteed pension. If corporations don't make a reasonable profit each year, workers and shareholders lose. Everyone connected should be accountable for their actions.
@Tolebon I think there is a big difference between a corporation that is working hard and making good chooses making a reasonable profit and the corporations buying the government so they can set up the system in there favor at the expense of everyone else. There is nothing wrong with corporations, but there is something wrong when they have more legal rights then a human being dose. There must be some reasonable middle ground to be found is there not?
The other thing about unions, their decisions are made by votes from the membership, democratically. You won't find decisions being made in Boardrooms democratically.
Of course you do. A board of directors is voted in by the shareholders. Then the board votes on what it wants to do. If you want to influence a companies policies, all you have to do is buy some stock.
Those who think unions "are like corporations" had best THINK AGAIN. Unions are created to stand up for rights of workers. Corporations service and in fact are legally bound to consider only shareholder profits. {Great if you are Mitt Romney or the Koch Brothers, isn't it?}
I wonder if common cause also wants to stop unions from being able to make political contributions or do unions count as people? It seems like only the big bad evil corporations need to be stopped.
Corporations would be able to contribute to campaigns even with the amendment proposed here. Your argument is pointless and somewhat like an elementary school student would make.
I never said they were. However, your response shows how little you know about what unions do in the political process. What they do is take union members dues and use them to support candidates of the union's choice. The key point is that the dues are not being used as the member's choose. Why should organized labor be able to influence the government and organized management shouldn't? Seems kind of hypocritical to me.
union members elect their leadership. Some may not agree with the decisions the leaders make, but that's what happens with representative democracies isn't it?
They take dues and use them to advocate for better wages and working conditions for their members and the members get a HUGE return if you consider the difference between improved compensation and quality of life compared to the tiny pittance they pay for membership.
So what you are saying is that unions using their members money to lobby Congress and support candidates that will lavish their members with Huge returns is a good thing, but a corporation that does the same thing to lavish its shareholders with a Huge return is a bad thing. Thanks for proving my point.
This is not about political parties this is about a for sale sign on our democracy people.
Silence, and apathy are not acceptable when the Supreme Court put a for sale sing on American elections. Stop choosing political parties over our country!
People on the Internet are seemingly disinterested in politics in large part and seemingly unaware, or uncaring about the kind of future which lies ahead. If we do nothing to stop this crazy run away train of the Republican party, our lives will be a living "hell."
Corporations are governments. Non-elected, privately owned, nobility-led governments, not "people". If you hate the idea of elected government and hate the idea that all men are created equal, then you should love corporate power. If you don't hate the notion that all men are created equal and if you think all should get equal votes, you should dislike corporate power.
@Stephenamesbruner Just fyi, pookie. When you toss in "zionist" it makes you look like a total idiot and no one but other idiots will take you seriously.
He speaks like he likes democracy when in reality he doesn't. It's really funny. I love how he speaks very generically. He talks about the 1% taking over our government yet I wonder if the rich in Hollywood would agree with that statement. I wonder if Bill Gates and Warren Buffet would agree with that statement. I also love how he doesn't blame government for being greedy and taking the money.
@onyxavatar That's the whole point of the video... the government is essentially for sale. So yes, he is saying the government is being greedy. But nowadays everyone is greedy :(
Great video. The one piece missing is the one realty that the masses will not accept. Corporations are not a giant on the hill. They are made up of real-life people. The workers, the leaders and the lobbyists are all making decisions to take the actions that they take. We need to be human first! Stop taking action, only for self comfort, at the expense of other humans. Realize that we are not seperate. We are one species on one planet. We are human first. Peace
"I'll believe Corporations are people when Texas executes one." What's next? What if the Supreme Court ruled that the sky was green? Wrong is wrong. Support this movement. Its not left versus right, its tyranny versus liberty. Speak now or forever lose your rights.
@medrowski sir I am on the board and top shareholder of a corporation and I know this to be truth. Corporations are NOT people. They are businesses. Only people are people.
@surgechecker18 I didn't say that. I said the video was liberal crap! Like the Romney documentary claiming he bankrupted companies when they went bankrupt years after Romney left Bain Capitol. Lies, half truths, emotional manipulation via the media. Research BOTH sides before you call something the absolute truth!
@tvelazquez100 Again, I didn't say it was put out by Dems. Just saying all is not as it appears, you have to do your research, why thinking is offending people is beyond me.
@gungfu69 Typical liberal response, attack the speaker, uneducated, talk show listener, and I'm sure racist is next. Bill Clinton made China a most favored nation. China! Talk about human rights violators. The Democratic Party therefore supports the violation of human rights, is anti-capitolism, and anti-Christian and Anti-America. I used to be a Democrat, before they turned Socialist in diguise, I would love to be a member of the party they claim to be.
@medrowski With all due respect, sir, you seem to be attacking the former speaker in an ad-hominem fashion as well, by making generalizations about liberals. You also shot some insults towards the Democratic party, and failed to back up your claims with evidence. I believe if we're to have sensible political debate, than the people involved should treat each other with respect.
@MagicByEli Failed to back up China? NAFTA? ad-hominem? No just stating the facts. First of all I am not a Sir. I'm an old woman who volunteered for the McGovern campaign, maybe prior you birth, in 1972. I gave the Democratic Party my all and they sorely dissappointed and even hurt me. I learned to do my research and of all the political parties, I have learned the My beloved party was the most deceiving, sorry if I sound bitter, but I am!
@medrowski The Democratic Party is "the most deceiving"?
If you can say that with a straight face after looking into the actions of the GOP over the last half century then you really need a substantial amount of further research.
This issue is the biggest threat to democracy and freedom in our country. It needs more attention that it is getting. Thank you Dr. Reich for leading the movement to overturn the very undemocratic, unconstitutional, un-American and unfair Citizen United decision!
