OSX is 64bit. They cant use more then 3gb, hardware limitation from apple. Same with my core2duo Macbook, I have 4gbs in here and in "about this mac" it shows 4gb, but the system only uses 3gb. Even when I switch to vista ultimate x64 it shows 4gb in my system, but the computer only uses 3gb.
No, it's actually the CPU and the internal kernel. All the Macs with Intel Core 2 Duo and above are 64 bit and support 4GB of RAM fully. Core Duos don't though, perhaps your MacBook is one of the Core Duo ones.
Nope. Look online, check wikipedia, ask apple. I have a Core 2 Duo Macbook and a 24in Imac and the maximum is 3gb. The core duos have a max of only 2gb.
I never check Wikipedia because it's a rather untrusted source if you ask me. The maximum is not 3GB, the maximum is 4GB. The system recognizes the 4GB, if you go into Activity Monitor, you'll see your 4GB of RAM there.
Sure will say 4gb is there. Download iStat Pro, the system only uses 3gb. In windows vista it shows 3gb everywhere. The system does recognize 4gb of ram, but apple has limited it to 3gb. Im 100% correct on this, activity monitor is wrong, trust me. 3gb is the maximum, ask apple yourself if you dont believe me.
From wikipedia about the Macbook core 2 duo, the system recognizes the 4gb, but only 3gb is available for use. Check iStat Pro or if you have bootcamp, check in windows.
Again I say that wikipedia isn't a trusted source because anyone can just edit in it. And I've read some apple stuff before about the 4GB of RAM. I do recall that Apple only sold 3GB of RAM in their 2.16GHz MacBook Pros, so maybe those only supported that much. I know that my 2.2GHz Santa Rosa one supports up to a full 4. Perhaps other models are different, but this is what I know.
Yup the models with the X3100 graphics fully support 4gb. I have the original Core 2 duo model, all the core 2 duo with gma950 max out at 3gb. The original Core duo macbook maxes out at 2gb.
The original 24in Imac also maxes out at 3gb, which is what I have.
Well I believe all the current Macs (excluding the Mac Mini and Macbook Air) support 4GB of RAM, and the Mac Pro supports 32GB. We should mix the current generation with the previous generation I suppose. Even the generation previous to the current one supported up to 4GB, I don't think your iMac supports only 3, but I don't know about that. It SHOULD support the full 4GB though.
Well this video is of the first gen 24in iMac which I have. So i was completely on topic. You were the one bringing in the newer models.
Also the first gen 24in iMac only supports 3gb, just like my macbook, I have both, I know. On your page you claim to be all into apple products and you dont even know how much ram they can have? I barely pay attention to apple products and even I know, lol.
Well I clearly remember that they support the full 4GB of RAM. And even now, I still think they do. Can you give me a link for some proof that they don't?
Wow...... look at the iMac in this video..... Its the original 24in, which is NOT aluminum. I have one right at my house, really try using google, youre ridiculous.

Add more memory, the memory is hella cheap. I bought 4gbs for my macbook and it was like 120$ [my macbook only sees it as 3gb which is kinda lame]

32Bit systems dont know what to do with more than 3Gb RAM. Only 64Bit systems will recognize 4Gb and up.

Its a limitation apple put on the hardware.

Just download Mactracker. It lists specs/upgradability of every mac.
I just checked. Late 2006 24in iMac "Maximum RAM-3gb [4gb can be installed, only 3gb will be addressed]"
Download it, has specs for every apple computer.

Late 2006 24" iMac? There is no such thing. The Aluminum iMacs came out in Late 2007, which is when the 24" came out.
