Actualy no. You are not correct on that one. The big items are on the Mac Mini G4 that is connected to the Viewsonic CRT Monitor that has the big items but the Core Duo version is connected to the Flat Panel LCD Monitor. You may be exagerating or got mixed up.

No- i mean share some of the same capabilities as a PC. You realize, Mac isn't the only ones with multi core CPU' systems. Intel is coming out for PC an Octo-Core Single Die CPU. Even back in the early 2000's, there was desktop PC's with 16 Core systems, then you have the potential of the 4X4 and the spider platforms with dual socket motherboards which were later fabricated into the FX-74 interface but had a short life with the intro of the C2D architecture.

I have to agree with you on that. Unfortunately if you remember the G5 was too power consuming and generated way too much heat so that was the main reason why they switched to Intel X86 chips. Not neccessarily performance. PowerPCs are superior to Intel in performance but not in efficiency.

Not a fair comparison. It's a fair thing to benchmark a system to compare it. But bootup times are not comparable on different systems, because different systems have different settings and different programs installed - there are ALWAYS start up scripts that do not come as standard.

Also, of course a G4 boots slower than a Core2 - for a start a Core2 is 2 or 4 processors glued together! It is also the previous generation.

It's not a Core 2! It's a Core Duo. Core 2 Duo is a 64-bit dual core processor with 3MB of L2 cache. Core Duo is a 32-bit dual core processor with only 2MB of L2 cache.

If you run win32, then yes, it will act like a 32-bit processor, but in a legacy mode.

No, windows 32 wont detect it, there's a difference. You can run it in legacy mode, which restricts it to 32-bit mode, thus EM64 wont be detected. A lot of systems run like this, but trust me, Core 2 was quite late in the implementation of 64.

@chootastic Wrong, Intel Core is 32-bit. Core 2 Duo is 64-bit. I own both, but with 32-bit operating systems. CPU-Z detects EMT64 on my Core 2 Laptop. It detects nothing of the sort on the Core Duo (Pentium DC)

My 6yr old sawtooth boots up in 20 seconds. Do this in terminal as root "kextcache -k /System/Library/Extentions", and reboot twice. That should speed it up by a long jump.

You need to do an archive and install on both those Macs - my PowerMac G4 Dual450/1GB/20GB,5400rpm (2nd hand purchase, first time mac user, 3 weeks old but with a fair few programs installed) boots in under a miute - i.e. faster than both your Macs.
